Constant Function a constant function is a function whose values do not vary and thus are constant. For example the function f(x) = 4 is constant since f maps any value to 4. More formally, a function f : A B is a constant function if f(x) = f(y) for all x and y in A.

Absolute Value Function The real absolute value function is continuous everywhere. It is differentiable everywhere except for x = 0. It is monotonically decreasing on the interval (,0] and monotonically increasing on the interval [0,+). Since a real number and its oppositehave the same absolute value, it is an even function, and is hence not invertible.

Identity Function
an identity function, also called an identity relation or identity map or identity transformation, is a function that always returns the same value that was used as its argument. In terms of equations, the function is given by f(x) = x.

Square Root Function The principal square root function") is itself. the area of a square to root function (usually just referred to as the "square a function that maps the set of non-negative real numbers onto In geometrical terms, the square root function maps its side length.

Quadratic Function
A quadratic function, in mathematics, is a polynomial function of the form

The graph of a quadratic function is a parabola whose axis of symmetry is parallel to the y-axis.

The expression in the definition of a quadratic function is a polynomial of degree 2 or second order, or a 2nd degree polynomial, because the highest exponent of x is 2.

Cubic Function In mathematics, a cubic function is a function of the form

where a is nonzero; or in other words, a function defined by a polynomial of degree three. The derivative of a cubic function is a quadratic function. Theintegral of a cubic function is a quartic function. Setting (x) = 0 produces a cubic equation of the form:

Split Function

Split functions (or functions defined by cases) actually appear quite often, in particular because the only reasonable way to investigate functions featuring absolute value is to get rid of the absolute value by splitting the expression into two cases (or more, if it features more absolute values)

Rational Function In mathematics, a rational function is any function which can be defined by a rational fraction, i.e. an algebraic fraction such that both the numerator and the denominator are polynomials. In mathematics, a rational function is any function which can be defined by a rational fraction, i.e. an algebraic fraction such that both the numerator and the denominator are polynomials.

Signum Function In mathematics, the sign function or signum function (from signum, Latin for "sign") is an odd mathematical function that extracts thesign of a real number. In mathematical expressions the sign function is often represented as sgn..

Greatest Function

The greatest integer function of a real number x is represented by [x] or |_x_|. It rounds down a real number to the nearest integer.
