Module Description The module mainly focused to give an advanced awareness of the built environment, the design issues in the process of environmental changes and the skills involved in feasibility studies and environmental design. Principles of urban design will introduce students to Urban Design Theories; basic design challenges of urban/built-up space; Main trends in Urban Design; Urban Design and urban development process; Urban Design and the Planning process; approaches to Ideal Urban form; Night, fear and spaces; Sustainability and Urban Design. The course focuses on issues related to designing within the existing urban fabric: urban renewal. Image of the city: paths, edges, districts, nodes and landmarks. Pattern of urban form: streets, squares, monuments. The architecture of the city, Urban Design and Conservation. Exercise on urban design by intervention in an existing urban setting.

Repetition Description Learning Outcomes

Will give in the form of project by selecting part of the city. The project will give in group not more than 8 students; and the focus of the project should be analysis of problems in the city with the context of urban design principles and designing the part of city with appropriate solution for analyzed problems. A student can repeat a course as per the policy

At the end of this module students will be able to: Explain the importance of Urban Design as a means of delivering better values and higher standards in the built environment. Understand main urban design issues Apply the right procedures in feasibility studies Analyze urban design issues with respect to urban design principles. Evaluate Urban design decisions for creating enjoyable urban environment Design part of city by giving appropriate solution for urban design issues Create models for presentation of the proposed design Site Analysis & Planning Techniques Chapter 1 Urban Space Production & Urban Design Process 1.1 Importance, definition and history of Urban Design; 1.2 The concepts of space and place; 1.3 Benefits of good Design; 1.4 Quality of the public realm; 1.5 the Urban Design process; 1.6 principles of urban design chapter 2 Permeability
