Using Past Forms of Irregular Verbs

(Verbs where past tense and past participle are formed by adding -d or -ed) 3. Row 1 gives the regular verbs, row 2 will give the past tense Row 3 gives the regular verbs, row 4 gives the past tense. 2. Motivation 1. School Survey We will be grouped into 4 a. Group One will go to the library Group Two will go to the canteen Group Three will visit the grade 1- A classroom Group Four will visit the office of the principal b. Choose a leader and a secretary. The secretary will record the things you see in a manila paper. The leader will report.

Development of Lesson Presentation Let us see the past tense of the verbs you underlined. sit-sat draw-drew sell-sold read-read Analysis and Discussion What can you say about the past tense of the verbs on the board? How are they formed? a. The spelling is changed as in sell-sold, give-gave, eat-ate b. The pronunciation is changed as in read-read, but the spelling is retained b. These verbs are called irregular verbs. Excercise Complete the sentences in the paragraph with the appropriate past form of the verbs in the box.

He went out and cut grass. He worked and worked the whole day through. That night, he slept well and dreamed of his parents. Additional Exercise Make a drawing of your memorable summer experience. Write about it.
