LISTENING TO MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL IN

CONTEXT

As part of ANCs election campaign strategy it entails interacting with voters around the issue of elections. The strategy indicates the importance of listening to people, understanding their fears, aspirations, perceptions about the ANC and Government. This information will assist in the formulation of our elections strategy for specific issues and concerns. Following from a successful engagement with the Professionals in Tshwane on the 27 th of November 2008, hosted by the ANC Inner City Zone, it was agreed by the professionals, the panel of speakers and the organizing team, that there is a need to keep the momentum. Sector engagements should and must be part of the broader election campaign. This interaction with the medical professionals is vital to the ANC in listening and addressing the challenges they face in the sector. It must also be seen as an integral part of the ANC election strategy in all inner cities in the Province. 2. 3. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES To embark on a major Listening to the People" campaign. Listen and respond to their concerns like staff shortages, brain drain and low morale. Find ways to ensure enhance participation of professionals in the zonal and branch activities Share, recognize and appreciates the advances we have made in creating a conducive environment of health professionals in South Africa. Reconfirm ANC commitment on total emancipation of our people for a better life. Reclaim and reaffirm their space within the African National Congress CHARACTER OF THE CAMPAIGN

It is envisaged that this listening campaign will be in a form of a seminar. The health professionals seminar will include engagement with a panel. The panel is expected to trigger a facilitated discussion with the medical professionals invited. The Minister for Health shall be expected to make an input taking into consideration the suggested topics which have much relevance to the medical profession. The relevance of the Medical Profession to the ANC manifesto

Delegates are expected to make comments, critique the inputs made and raise any other issue that impacts on health professionals. The panel is then expected to respond and/ comment on the issues raised. The proposed date that has been agreed by the task team is 05 March 2009 at the City Hall, Pretoria. The seminar is expected to start at 17h00 for and finish 21h00.

THEME OF MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS SEMINAR WITH THE ANC

The theme proposed seeks to demonstrate consistency of ANC policy and strategies, medical professionals articulating the kind of the ANC they look upon and their responsibility towards the future they craft together with the movement.
