~:INTRODUCTION:~
Although global oil prices have slipped as of recent news, the prices are still volatile and can continue fluctuate in the future. As a result, more and more people are now looking for ways to help reduce their fuel expenditures. There are now several options for alternative fuels today such as hydrogen, ethanol, hybrid technology, electric cars and more. Compressed natural gas or CNG is one alternative fuel that appears to be a viable alternative to gasoline.

WHAT IS NATURAL GAS?

Natural Gas is an organic compound that is found deep within the earth. It is a fossil fuel formed over millions of years of geological pressures and changes. Natural gas is primarily methane comprised of hydrogen and carbon. It is a safe fuel source that is commonly used in homes and businesses for heating, lighting and cooking.

HOW TO DO NATURAL GAS CONVERSION This is the process of converting a single fuel vehicle into a bi-fuel system by retrofitting a CNG conversion kit. CNG conversion kit, a CNG tank or cylinder is also necessary. From the CNG cylinder, stainless steel tubes and pipes deliver the CNG to the regulator whose function is to reduce the pressure of the gas. The gas is then fed into a fuel-air mixer then into the air intake manifold where it is prepared for combustion.

~:THE BENEFITS OF NATURAL GAS CONVERSION:~ The benefits of natural gas conversion is purchasing a natural gas vehicle or NGV and retrofitting an existing vehicle with a natural gas conversion kit. Natural gas conversion can be a complex process but is actually quite do-able. However it is best to have NGV becouse c.n.g is cheaper .

WORKING OF C.N.G:-

C.N.G KITS:-

~:ADVANTAGES:~ Natural gas is significantly less expensive than gasoline. CNG is more eco-friendly than gasoline. The Performance Advantage Natural gas gives the same mileage as petrol/diesel vehicle. The Environmentally Clean Advantage Compressed natural gas is the cleanest burning fuel operating today. This means less vehicle maintenance and longer engine life. The Safety Advantage Surveys indicate that NGVs are as safe or safer than those powered by other fuels.

~:DISADVANTAGES:~

CNG tanks require storage space. If you convert to CNG, you may need to sacrifice some of the space of your car or behind the back seat (for SUVs). CNG Filling stations have limited availability. Some areas in the india still have few filling stations and some places have none at all.

~:C.N.G FILLING STATIONS:~

WHAT NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CNG TANKS The other important factor to the safety of CNG is these tanks are specially designed to contain the CNG safely at pressures of between 3,000 to 3,600 PSI. Most CNG tanks are made of steel, aluminum or plastic. New technologies have also allowed the invention of lightweight composite cylinders that are especially suited for use in vehicles because of the reduced weight.

HOW IS NATURAL GAS USED FOR POWERING VEHICLES? Natural gas is compressed and enters the vehicle through the natural gas dispenser or fill post It flows into high-pressure cylinders that are located on the vehicle. When the driver steps on the accelerator, the natural gas leaves the on-board storage cylinder, passes through the high-pressure fuel line and enters the engine compartment. Gas then enters the regulator, which reduces pressure from up to 3,600 psi to approximately atmospheric pressure. The natural gas solenoid valve allows natural gas to pass from the regulator into the gas mixer or fuel injectors. Natural gas mixed with air flows down through the carburetor or fuel injection system and enters the engine's combustion chambers.

Conclusion:~
CNG is more eco-friendly than gasoline. Natural gas produces far fewer harmful emissions and hydrocarbons than gasoline. Using CNG makes the engine cleaner and more efficient and it is also cheaper in price as compare to petrol/diesel vehicles.
