INTRODUCTION TO WATSTRUT CONSULTING ENGINEERS Watstrut Consulting Engineers is a civil and structural engineering firm that has been in existence for the last seventeen years. Our aim is to provide a high quality service to our clients that will meet their needs. We realize that each client is unique, and therefore we tailor our services to meet each clients needs. We work with other building professionals to ensure that the building meets sound engineering principles. We are committed to providing economical options in the structure, whilst trying to facilitate architects aesthetic and functional considerations.

At Watstrut we are very duty conscious, and therefore we always try to stick to given deadlines, provided of course that in so doing we have enough time to ensure that necessary standards are maintained. We also open our work to some experienced engineers in the industry for feedback and consultation before we release our drawings for construction.

Projects completed in the last five years


1. Proposed Town Houses on Miotoni Road, Karen 2009. Valued at Kshs. 100 million, the project involved 5 maisonettes, access roads, and drainage on 2 acres of land. 2. Daystar University Student Hostels, Athi River 2006-10. Valued at Kshs. 130 million, 5 levels of student hostels on a frame structure support system. 3. Hostels for the Sisters of St. Marys, Loreto 2009-10. Valued at Kshs. 48 million, and situated in Langata, Nairobi. 4. St. Andrews P.C.E.A. Apartments, Dennis Pritt Road 2008-10. Valued at Kshs. 100 million, 2 blocks, each consisting of ten flats on five levels 5. Cedar Valley Apartments, Masanduku Lane Lavington 2006-08. Valued at Kshs. 160 million, 32 apartments on a very hilly site. 6. Nyumbani Childrens Home Laboratory, Karen 2010-11. Valued at Kshs. 57 million, a world class diagnostic laboratory, supported by a reinforced concrete flame structure. 7. ICT Centre for Daystar University, Nairobi 2010-11. Valued at approximately Kshs. 150 million, it includes a theatre, and 10 metre spans for the rooms. 8. Graceland Housing Scheme Phase 1, Athi River 2010-12. Valued at Kshs. 200 million, 52 maisonettes with associated civil works of roads, sewers, and surface water drains. 9. Riara Road Apartments, Lavington 2010-11. Valued at Kshs. 200 million, 30 apartments designed for an upscale market in three blocks. 10.Residential flats, Riara Road/Naivasha Road junction 2010-11. Valued at Kshs. 130 million, 48 2-bedroom flats on levels, and in three blocks. Associated civil works were also completed. 11.Jumuia Place Office block, Lenana Road Nairobi 2007-09. Valued at Kshs.150 million, 5 levels of building, including a basement for parking purposes.

12.Proposed Waridi Paradise, Rose Avenue Road. Valued at Kshs. 270 million, 6 levels of serviced apartments. 13.Proposed town houses, Kerarapon, Ngong. Valued at Kshs.110 million, 12 houses on 2 acres.

On-going Projects
1. Proposed Sagana Getaway, Muranga. Valued at Kshs. 270 million, the structural work, construction of 20 cottages and the resort center that includes the kitchen and dining areas is complete. Finishes and civil works are in progress. 2. East Africa Regional Offices for World Vision, Karen. Valued at Kshs. 230 million, 3 level block is in progress and should be completed by February 2013. Construction of structural elements already completed. 3. CITAM, Parklands. Valued at Kshs. 229 million, includes a church sanctuary and hall. Total of 5 levels, including basement, on target to be completed by January 2013. 4. Navigators Africa Offices, Mucai Drive. Valued at Kshs. 540 million, an 8 floor building with 4 levels of parking, 2 basements. The design is currently being finalized. 5. Daystar University, Nairobi. Valued at Kshs. 289 million, a 6 level building composed of classrooms, computer labs and offices.

WORK EXPERIENCE. 1994 To-date: Project Engineer I have worked as the General Manager and the Principal Civil and Structural engineer in Watstrut Consulting Engineers that I established in 1995. We have successfully completed design and supervision of a wide variety of Civil and Structural works projects as the firms profile in this report shows.

1992 1994: Design Engineer Ministry of Water Development We worked on design of various projects within the Ministry including: (a) (b) (c) I led a team to do a feasibility study of water and sewerage systems for Ruiru Town. Design of Mwani-Kasikeu water project I was acting Assistant Director in the Ministry of water for six months and was overall in charge of Design Section for that period.

1991 1992: Project Engineer The works involved administration of some of the projects that were under construction by the Ministry at the time. This included visiting the sites and attending site meetings; preparing reports on those projects; solving the administrative problems that arose from these projects including verifying the payment certificates before payments. It also involved visiting the existing small water projects around the country under the Ministry and recommending solutions to their persistent problems.

1987 1991:

Construction Engineer

Worked as a Construction Engineer in the Ministry of Water Development in the following projects: a) Extension of Nairobi City Council Water for a distance of approximately 2.5Km to K.I.A (presently University of Nairobi Lower Kabete Campus). I was the Resident Engineer. b) I was an Assistant Resident Engineer in the construction of Thika water supply. c) I was an Assistant Resident Engineer at Moi University water supply.

WORK EXPERIENCE 2003 To date Engineer-Watstrut Consulting Engineers I have been involved at the engineering level on a variety of projects that the firm has handled, projects at different stages, that is, design stage, under construction and others satisfactorily completed. 1996 1997 Erection supervisor-Steel Structures Ltd Kangundo Rd, off Outering Rd. Nairobi Supervisor in selected steel construction site in coordination with other departments like; i). Projects comprises of engineers and draughts men, who come up with designs and working drawings. ii). iii). Dispatch which dispatches all material requirements to sites Workshop where all the materials required are fabricated.

My responsibilities as a supervisor were; - Mobilizing competent work force for the job - Liaise with the project engineers for relevant details. - Work for all required materials and equipment. - Preparation of the jobs duration programs

1998 1999 Technician- with Watstrut Consulting Engineers We worked on the following projects; a) Karen community church hall b) Administration block for African Nazarene University c) Kindergarten Block for Lavington United Church d) Staff flats for Daystar University I was the draughtsman involved in detailing and production of structural drawings.

EMPLOYMENT RECORD

July 2006-October 2006 Project management (Nyoro Construction Company) This was a three months in-training attachment during the construction of Processional Way Road, opposite state house. Along with the site engineer, we ensured proper placing of construction materials as well as calculating material costs.

September 2008 to present date Engineer, Watstrut Consulting Engineers I am currently employed at Watstrut Consulting Engineers dealing majorly in structural design of structures, and supervision of projects to ensure proper construction procedures are followed. Some of the works I have carried out in this capacity include: Proposed hostels for the sisters of St. Marys convent, Loreto HIV positive boys hostels, Cottolengo, Karen Apartment blocks. Test laboratory at Nyumbani Childrens home. Residential houses Office blocks.
