Award-Winning Controlled Atmosphere Separation Technology CAST

Our versatile, award-winning CAST technology can be utilized as an effective stand-alone wastewater, chemical, or nutrient recovery system, or as part of an integrated plant-wide recovery solution. The CAST wastewater and chemistry recovery system reduces your costs by recovering your process chemistry for reuse or recycle and eliminating most of your costly disposal of hazardous waste or process effluent. Our Zero-Liquid-Discharge (ZLD) Systems can recover nearly 100% of your valuable chemical resources or wastewater for immediate reuse of recycling at your facility with no liquid leaving your facility. CAST concentrates mixed hazardous waste down to as little as 5% of its original volume for economical disposal or reclaim. This patented technology is designed and constructed to exceed the demands of harsh chemical environments.

Typical Applications Include:

Ammonia (nitrogen) Recovery from municipal, industrial and agricultural wastewaters Aircraft Deicing Fluids and Antifreeze Recovery from glycol and glycol / glycerin containing wastewaters Zero-Liquid-Discharge wastewater recycle/reuse and elimination of a discharge BOD removal and subsequent recovery of sugars, proteins, starches and yeast as a salable product Recycling of valuable chemical resources (electroplating solutions, acids, alkaline cleaners and coolants) Recovery of industrial chemicals including VOCs, ketones, dissolved gases, alcohols, glycols, solvent etc. Concentrating process solutions for cost-effective reclamation of precious metals, e.g. gold, silver, platinum Direct replacement of atmospheric evaporators and vacuum evaporators

Why Our Industrial Solutions Are Better

Maximum Sustainability, Minimum Waste
With ThermoEnergy, you wont just treat your wastewater, you will recover the value in it. We separate feed stocks that other water treatment companies typically dispose of as waste and return them to you to reuse or recycle. Our solutions are the most cost-effective and environmentally responsible methods of water treatment on the market today.

Superior Technology
Our CAST and RCAST technologies can process more contaminates, from metals to organics, with less pre-treatment than other technologies. Both CAST and RCAST are based on vacuum assisted flash distillation, an efficient physical separation method.

Higher ROI
ThermoEnergys Industrial Solutions offer a solid return on your investment. They are easy to operate and maintain. That can mean payback of your initial investment in two years and continued savings and efficiency for years to come.

Minimal Emissions
Our CAST and RCAST technologies are enclosed systems, which means minimal air emissions. And because we recover in addition to simply treat, we have much lower greenhouse gases emissions. Only ThermoEnergy offers a written EPA RCRA exemption for our Zero Liquid Discharge system.

Utilizing ThermoEnergys CASTion technology, Columbia Manufacturing became the first permit-free chromium plating operation in the United States. The Massachusetts DEP has exempted Columbia from air and water discharge permits. 98% of valuable plating chemistries are recovered and reused.

Why Our Municipal and Agricultural Wastewater Recovery Systems Are Better
Maximum Results Unparalleled Sustainability
At ThermoEnergy, we dont just treat wastewater we recover the value in it. Our Ammonia Recovery Process (ARP) can recover 80% or more of the ammonia in digestate streams, and reuse or recycle the ammonia as ammonium sulfate fertilizer.

ThermoEnergys Ammonia Recovery Process (ARP) is so efficient that the City of New York has announced it will use it to prevent 2.4 million pounds per year of ammonia from entering Jamaica Bay.

Superior Technology With a Smaller Footprint

ThermoEnergy solutions are far more efficient and cost-effective than traditional technologies. Our Ammonia Recovery System offers lower capital and operating costs along with a much smaller footprint than other nutrient treatment technologies. As a retrofit to an existing wastewater plant, our ARP system can reduce or eliminate the need for enhanced nitrogen removal.

Significantly Lower Operating and Capital Costs

ThermoEnergy systems are easy to operate and maintain. Because they are manufactured, you avoid the capital costs associated with the design and construction of in-place systems. And because we recover ammonia rather than just treating it, your costs are significantly lower. A number of states have already adapted a nutrient credit and trading system for ammonia, and the trend is expected to accelerate. This offers another revenue stream in addition to ammonium nitrate fertilizer recovery and accelerates the payback on the ThermoEnergy ARP.

Minimal Emissions
Our CAST and RCAST technologies are enclosed systems. That means they produce minimal air emissions. Because our systems recover rather than just treat, they create much-lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions.

Manufacturing and Laboratory Facilities

ThermoEnergy has a 20,000 square foot manufacturing and technology development facility in Worcester, Massachusetts. It features a 2,600 square foot chemical bench-scale test laboratory and three pilot systems: a 1 gpm system, a 10 gpm system and a full-scale 400 gpm system. Because we manufacture our own systems, our solutions are less expensive and more reliable than systems engineered and constructed in place. As a result, our wastewater treatment systems can: Lower your operating costs Improve process performance Recover valuable process chemistry for recycle and reuse Recover wastewater for use as process water Reduce or eliminate costly regulatory compliance

In-House Laboratory Testing and Pilot Systems: The Importance of Testing and Process Modeling
With its diverse services and modeling techniques, the ThermoEnergy laboratory sets the standard for testing and modeling within the water treatment industry. Clients are encouraged to send samples for detailed evaluation and treatment modeling. We use bench-scale filtration, distillation, ion exchange and membrane screening to process the samples and choose the appropriate technology. Results are tabulated in a formal report that clearly outlines each unit operation and details the recommended treatment process. Isolates are obtained after every treatment step and are normally returned to the customer for reevaluation and third party validation. Our lab also offers basic analytical testing, such a minerals, metals and standard wet-chemical methods. Testing of more complex analysis is available from a network of subcontract labs at very competitive rates. ThermoEnergy recognizes the uniqueness of each process stream and therefore advises modeling each separation process before recommending a specific treatment plan to a client. There are a number of distinct advantages to laboratory and field pilot testing, including: Application Validation Hands-on client experience with field pilot equipment Confirmation of operating costs

Pilot Plants
ThermoEnergy understands the importance and utility of on-site piloting programs. Therefore we develop mobile pilot systems that meet or exceed the demands of our diverse client base. Each pilot unit/system is self-contained and mounted on a corrosion-resistant portable skid, pre-wired, pre-piped and configured for easy installation. It can be operated individually or can be interconnected with multiple units to simulate a specific treatment train. We recently commissioned our new Mobile CAST 2500 mobile wastewater treatment unit. The Mobile CAST 2500 is ideally suited for on-site pilot testing, temporary, or emergency wastewater treatment operations at client facilities. The Mobile CAST 2500 is a completely self-contained wastewater processing system that uses the companys CAST platform technology. The unit is capable of treating 2,500 gallons per day of wastewater. The Mobile CAST 2500 can be deployed on-site for a range of applications, including: metals recovery, airport deicing fluid dewatering and recovery, antifreeze dewatering and recovery, biological oxygen demand (BOD) reduction, and ammonia (nitrogen) recovery.
