Hamburg inspires. In this city, it is a pleasure to build bicycles. We at STEVENS have lived and experienced this day by day, since 1991. COOLY CONSTRUCTED. Constructing a bike from the first concept to a driveable prototype demands a clearly structured work process. Many people bring their experiences and doubts, their know-how and their wishes into it. For every new bike project, countless ideas ideas come together. They must be proved, discarded or improved upon step by step, and at the end they must be tested rigorously. All of this we do in Hamburg with top of the line software, in our own laboratories with our own machinery.
DISCUSSED DIRECTLY. Everyone who has any responsibility at STEVENS lives and works in Hamburg. Here, we come together daily. Here, everything is on the table. The suggestions of the professionals who push our bikes to their limits on the road and off. The opinions of the dealers, who add their own knowledge and the experiences of their customers. And the desire becomes the even better solution, the different approach, the more refined tuning, in short; is the bike of tomorrow. That is how we research. Always chasing the next STEVENS with unbridled passion, for more than 20 years. FREEDOM. Our Engineers and Product managers have everything they need at the most current level: Machines, testbeds and lab equipment hardware or software, choice of materials. Time; for extended test programs and rider feedback, and the liberty to scrap even very advanced projects or ideas, if they dont live up to the promise. PERFECT PARTNERS. Nowadays, even the most resourceful tinkerer cant invent the wheel alone. Therefore, STEVENS engineers looking for innovation are charged with maintaining cooperation and the exchange of ideas with certified specialists. This includes THM, for example, only about an hours drive north of Hamburg. They are one of the premier addresses worldwide in the development of carbon products of the highest quality. Together we developed the THM Nimbus fork, exclusively for STEVENS the aspiration to create the worlds finest fork regarding weight/stiffness and comfort was achieved 100% thanks to a special manufacturing process with a very low resin content and optimal positioning of material. ULTIMATE RIDING EXPERIENCE. This is the aim for every new STEVENS bike. Countless magazine tests confirm how well we achieve this. Be it efficient yet still comfortable racing bikes, harmonically adjusted pedelecs and trekking bikes suitable for daily use or the Full-Suspension-MTBs that are painstakingly tuned to the specific off-road mission. In the end, control, comfort and performance count. Again and again.
Quality Control
COMPLETE CONTROL. STEVENS bikes are particularly known for two properties. They are very lightweight. And they are very, very durable. We are sharing a secret here: We achieve this because we check, check and check what we develop. Not only in the test phase where the engineers fine tune their innovations, but most importantly after and during serial production: what the prototype promises, the production model must keep. We dont differentiate development and manufacturing, ensuring exact processes are maintained. Developers are personally integrated into the quality assurance of the serial production - check, check, check. INDEPENDENT EXPERTISE. In quality assurance, we dont just rely on ourselves. Here, we are relentlessly objective. We want the critical look from the outside. Our partner for this: The Zedler Institut fr Fahrradtechnik und -sicherheit (Zedler institute for bicycle technology and safety). Dipl.-Ing. Dirk Zedler is a publicly commissioned expert under oath for bicycles. With his help, we know the qualities of our products exactly: frames, no matter if aluminium or carbon, forks, seat posts, wheels... we have them tested extensively, in exactly the combination we assemble them. That, too makes STEVENS Bikes so lightweight and so durable. SELF AWARENESS. Only very few STEVENS employees are not also passionate cyclists. They complete thousands of kilometres in the saddle some to the grocery store with a child seat attached, others up to the cyclo-cross world championships in the masters category, and not forgetting during the lunch break group ride. Our development engineers utilize all this feedback ensuring constant quality and ongoing reliability. But youll experience this yourself.

UNSURPASSED. Back as early as 1991, STEVENS banked on carbon for frame building. This totals more than 20 years of experience with this excellent material. Each carbon frame from our company is conceptualized and developed in Hamburg. Our competent partners in Asia manufacture by hand in strict compliance with our specifications. Only this way can the unique material properties of the high-strength carbon fibres be utilized fully. An example: designing a rear assembly for optimal power transmission with maximum lateral stiffness, yet with high vertical flexibility for improved sitting comfort takes a lot of know-how in fibre layering and force distribution. The same goes for dropouts or integrated internal headset bearing designs, each a masterpiece in carbon engineered in Hamburg. BEST SUPPLIERS. We dont need to do everything ourselves. However original equipment components are subject to the same Stevens demands, only the best of the best are eligible as suppliers. Such as those that have even the fastest professional cyclists in the world queuing up like the Bavarian wheel wizards of Lightweight, or AX Lightness, whose cockpit components have achieved legendary fame among lightweight fanatics! CARBON-RECYCLING. There has been a recycling plant for carbon in Stade since 2011. Stade is practically around the corner from us. So it was only natural, that we came aboard as the first bike manufacturer to make use of this state of the art facility. Carbon components, like damaged frames or parts that didnt pass our quality controls have since been recycled and the valuable fibres can serve as a resource for new products. REPLACEMENT WHEN DAMAGED. If your carbon frame is irreparably damaged by a fall or an accident, our CRASH REPLACEMENT PROGRAMME kicks in. Carbon racing- and mountain bike frames are replaced at a 50% discount if damaged, within a period of two years from original purchase. We lace and build all wheels with Scorpo components ourselves. We have instituted a successful custom bike programme that makes us market leader in individually built racing and cyclo cross bikes in Germany naturally made in Hamburg. LOCATION GERMANY. Among our long-term and best business partners are suppliers who are themselves manufacturing in Germany. Desirable hydraulic brakes made by Magura in Bad Urach, Swabia. The legendary Speedhub transmission hub, whose 14 gears will get you to the end of the world, if you want, made by Rohloff in Kassel. Innovative lighting by Busch + Mller from Meinerzhagen in the Sauerland region illuminates the city and trekking range day to day. New for model year: 2014, we are wel-
coming the company Pinion, also from Swabia, whose innovative 18-gear transmission is a true milestone on the way to the even longer-lived bicycle. CUSTOMER PROXIMITY. We are on the German roads, trails and bicycle paths 12 months a year. We rely on a web of 500 specialist retailers in Germany alone, and know that they are ahead of their competition in terms of competence and service. // PRACTICE ORIENTED When the pitch of spring increases and the trend goes towards bigger running wheels, the challenges for the engineers grow because such a frame needs to fit its driver above all. So the STEVENS engineers design these solutions, eg to reduce the stand-over height of the Sledge.
// DIRECTLY MOUNTED Where it is technologically feasable and reasonable, we take over features like the direct mount of the derailleur from our top supplier Shimano. Here, it serves ease of assembly and precision adjustment.
// QUICK RELEASE Our Top MTBs use the X-12 quick release axle, because there simply arent any better rear wheel slots: The wheel is clamped precisely, aiding stiffness and dimensionally stable positioning of the brake disc. For the same reason we also prefer postmount sockets for the brake calipers.

// GENEROUSLY DIMENSIONED In the age of larger and larger wheels and more and more demanding drivers, a tapered head tube is absolutely state of the art: The fork shaft diameter increases from 1 1/8 above to a beefy 1.5 below. The lateral- and torsional stiffness of the stem increases enormously to favour steering precision. Additionally, the force transmission to the down tube improves significantly, which provides ruggedness and longevity for hard off-road use.
// WELL LED Like in the rear assembly, our suspension forks preferably use quick release axles and postmount brake slots. 15 mm axle diameter have prevailed as well as user friendly quick release levers la QR15 from Fox or Maxle Lite from RockShox. The driver, on the other hand, profits from steering precision and precise brake alignment.

If maximum trail enjoyment can be expressed in numbers, then they are these: 150mm and 27.5 strong climbing efficiency and the necessary absorption not to break the flow on the descending trail, even if it gets tougher and faster. The new STEVENS Sledge has the perfect harmonic mixture of agile, fleet-footed rolling and climbing behaviour and the necessary adept handling and ruggedness to let the grin grow wider and wider on the way back into the valley. All mountain? That just means driving enjoyment on both sides of the mountain.

1//THE CENTRE OF MOTION. Around the extra stiff pressfit interior bearing of the Sledge, there are other powerful details that provide all mountain driving fun: The ISCG sockets for the chain guide. The rear assembly main bearing in precise, sealed grooved ball bearings. The Fox suspension strut, that is perfectly adapted to the 150mm four-jointer and that can be blocked by remote together with the suspension fork when its uphill on an even track.
2//TECHNOLOGICAL CENTRE. On the Sledge rear assembly, 3 technologies meet that have since prevailed on the market: a drive-neutral four-pivot frame. Postmount slots, that fix the brake calipers precisely and stiffly on the seat stay. And the X-12 quick-release axle by Syntace, that does the same with the rear wheel. We have then even completed it with a user-friendly quick-release lever.
3//GREAT GEAR. High-value grooved ball bearings all around; which provide enduring smooth response while climbing and downhill. The one-piece aluminium rocker that links rear assembly and suspension strut stiffly and precisely. And the Fox suspension strut, specifically adjusted to the STEVENS kinematics with current CTD damping technology. As good as it gets.

New season, new chassis: New XC and Marathon Fullies, STEVENS has developed the Jura 120mm platform with an innovative approach; size consistent suspension kinematics are optimized further by utilizing larger 29er wheels in the larger sizes and 27.5 wheels on the smaller size and ladies model. The rider gets the perfect balance of handling characteristics and rolling efficiency for that decisive headstart. Premium Fox air suspension adjusts to rider and terrain with lockout for maximum drive efficiency.

1//INTELLIGENTLY SHAPED. The aluminium 7005-frame tubes of our marathon racer are shaped into such intelligent cross sections by hydroforming, that minimal weight and maximum stiffness result almost naturally. In order for the brand new Jura Team to shine on more technical trails, we also gave them an optimized namely especially low overhang on their way.
2//FAST DETAILS. A well-made chassis lives and dies by its subtle details. So this bell crank is completely guided in sealed grooved ball bearings and the innovative transition from the seat tube to the top tube takes care of the optimized kinesthetics. To have even more speed for the decisive attack, the Fox spring elements are simultaneously blocked with a common remote lever in the front and back.
3//TOP-TECHNOLOGY. A fully rear assembly cant be made lighter and stiffer than with the X-12 quick-release axle including the integrated, extremely stable derailleur hanger. The highly precise post mount brake socket is integrated into the left seat stay and the chainstay of the four-jointed rear assembly protects the shift cable splendidly from wetness, dirt and damage.

to force a marathon racer with fast 29 wheels under the 8-kilogram-mark, you should know high-art frame building and thats exactly what we do, not only in the extreme case of the Sonora SL-R with the superlight carbon fixed fork. The highly sloped top tube provides a low stand-over height, a compact, stiff rear assembly and surprisingly high sitting comfort, because the 27.2mm saddlepost can flex. Matching that, the other Sonora models are fitted with high-class suspension forks by Fox.

2//CARBON FIBER IN TOP SHAPE. The top tube of the Sonora transitions harmonically into the seat stays and elegantly flows around the seat tube. Its true values are inside, however they are the highly modular carbon fibres (HMC) embedded in an artificial resin matrix, that make this ideal combination of light weight and race-worthy stiffnes even possible with their high tensile strength. Thanks to the new 16 frame size, even more bikers can profit from it and from the 29 advantages on trails and race tracks.
3//FOR EYES AND STRONG LEGS. This voluminous bottom bracket can take any hard acceleration, because down- and seat tubes are designed with maximum width and because the integrated pressfit interior bearing offers a proud 92mm of bearing stance. There is even enough room to lead the shift- and brake cables to their destination well protected through the interior of the frame. With the exception of the SL-R version, STEVENS banks on 3-piece cranksets so no gear range options are needlessly given away.
4//TAPERED HEADTUBE. The steering precision provided is clearly visible in the beefy head tube, whose diameter increases from 1 1/8 above to 1.5 at the lower bearing seat. And the carbon engineers at STEVENS have integrated the inlets for brake- and shift cables at the same time, to provide a clean appearance and desirable low amount of maintenance. The marathon racer is delighted by this anyway. He only wants to drive, drive, drive...

trends, we have made test drives with different types of drivers and have drawn our conclusions from them: The new 27.5 wheels fit the 14 frame size better, the strengths of 29-inchers only come into play above that increased running smoothness, faster rolling over surface irregularities, more traction uphill and decreased roll-over effect downhill. With highly sloped top tubes we counter the danger of an excessive stand-over height and generate more confidence on the trail.

Here, fine ingredients and recipes meld to a successful menu from the triple conified tubes from high-strength 7005 aluminium, which were brought into a shape adapted to the specific stresses, consistently fine weld joints to extra lightweight and rugged anodisation. A conical head tube provides the necessary steering precision for sportive offroad use from the Monarch Trail upwards. And the suspension forks, consistently equipped with lockout-funtcionality, provide comfort and safety.
3//STRONG BOTTOM BRACKET. Because the down tube increases in volume toward the bottom bracket, as it is designed for optimal stiffness, and a pressfit interior bearing provides the maximum bearing stance, our aluminium hardtails transfer each pedal rotation immediately into acceleration and forward drive. Thanks to a large amount of tire clearance, Schwalbes RocketRon and Contis X King can put their strengths into the balance as well and so the incomparable, light-footed, agile driving experience comes with every outing.
4//ELEGANT AND FUNCTIONAL. Instead of banking on simple standard parts from the frame kit, STEVENS engineers prefer designing functional details like these distinctive drop outs. 1//GOLDEN MIDDLE. Out on the trail, it turns out if and how a bike actually works. After countless test kilometres, 27.5 running wheels turned out to be the best compromise for our pedelec fully drivers, otherwise the rear assembly would have been too long and cumbersome. So the four-joint cinematics and the high-value Fox spring elements with 130mm pitch of spring in the front and rear were precisely adjusted to them.
2//STRONG GUIDANCE. When a rear wheel is fixed to the frame with an Shimano 12mm through axle, 100% directional stability and torsional rigidity prevail. And when the grey lever on the Shadow+ gearshift from Shimanos Deore XT range is switched, chain rattling and ugly sounds are suppressed even if the Pordoi goes off-road as appropriate.
3//BEEFY DRIVE. The new Bosch Performance Line supples a beefy 60Nm of torque that is more than many motorcycles, even without pedalling. Because ground clearance has increased enormously, the STEVENS-engineers gave their Okay for hard off-road duty. And now it is extremely hard to switch back from the Pordoi to muscle-driven-only bikes.

Despite its torsionally rigid shaft, tapering from 1 1/8 to 1 1/4, it only weighs 315 g and reconciles the most pressing wishes of discerning racing-bike pilots: light weight plus precision steering or, transported to the hard reality on the streets: effortless climbing and knife-edge turn performance. Or, put more concisely: There is no better fork worldwide for aluminium frames, period.

Optionally, the delicate cables of Shimanos electronic Di2 components or after exchanging the small coverings the mechanical shift cables disappear into the generously dimensioned Vuelta down tube. In our other aluminium racers, the cables are also guided through the interior of the frame. That doesnt just look cleaner, it also guarantees a minimum amount of maintenance and superior shifting precision over many thousands of kilometres, even under adverse conditions.
4//STRONG CENTRE. That the bottom bracket shell of our aluminium and scandium top-racers appears so voluminous has its reasons: In precisele milled bearing seats a pressfit interior bearing provides the highest stiffness, that is, drive efficiency. And besides that, there is ample room to install shift cables or cords inside to protect them optimally from weather conditions. Such details are not visible at first glance but the STEVENS engineers cant dispense with them under any circumstances.

1//IT IS DONE. We have waited a long time for this opportunity and done our homework in time so our disc racer starts with a fork that has been designed all around hydraulic disc brakes. With a torsionally stiff tapered shaft that can easily take steering and braking forces. With precise postmount slots, that position the brake calipers perfectly. And with cables guided discreetly through the fork blades.
2//STANDARD SOLUTION. For the rear assembly of the Supreme, the STEVENS engineers decided on postmount as the disc standard as well. They are integrated into an exclusive drop out and position the brake calipers at the most inconspicuous and most well-protected spot between seat- and chainstay. And we are convinced, that the racer community will quickly be convinced of the quality of these stoppers, that have long since proved themselves in MTBs.
3//MORE IS BETTER. The rider of a Supreme likes to cruise at top speed otherwise he probably wouldnt need hydraulic brakes. He does need an arrow-like racer with the necessary drive efficiency, though. So the BB30 bottom bracket is called for, which really raises the bar for drive efficiency with its enourmously wide bearing stance.

If you want to make it successfully through the Ironman on Hawaii and its bike track, which is notorious for its extreme wind conditions, theres no way around aerodynamically optimized tube profiles so our development engineers took the Super Trofeo to the wind tunnel. This resulted in the fastest STEVENS of all times, whose speed is clearly visible in the carbon frame. Go, Sonja, go!

Another result from the wind tunnel: Stem, fork and cockpit elements are seamlessly integrated into the frame and offer the least possible resistance to the airflow where it matters, namely in the front of the bike. How do geographical differences figure in? Humidity? Elevation? Do these things affect the track? Stefan // Elevation has a big role. The air gets thinner, you have less drag and can go faster. Unfortunately, at height theres less oxygen so you gasp for air more than usual. Humidity plays a role for the track. Wooden tracks become softer and slower in high humidity! And you have to be careful that it isnt so humid that it becomes slippery in the steep turns. Miriam // You feel the elevation. It is easier driving. The same goes for humidity, the dryer the better. However, it burns pretty badly in the lungs at high strain.

Topic single speed. In large cities you can see more and more fixies. Many couriers have track bikes. Is that advertising for track cycling? Stefan // Anyone who only drives single speed doesnt know the feeling of speed that the track gives you. But he knows about the advantages of a single speed: The direct power transmission without bells and whistles. Schnickschnack. Miriam // Great. That way you get a glimpse of the feeling on the track. Track cycling may look a little monotonous to outsiders. Could you describe the fascination briefly? Stefan // The fascination is in the interplay of bike and man. The velocities that you reach on a track are enourmous: 70 kph. You drive into a regular speed-thrill that is even more enhanced by the centripetal force. Miriam // We have exciting disciplines that are very tactical. You adapt to an opponent, try to force your tactics on him. Apart from that, I have a very varied training regimen. Apart from track training I go to the gym 2-3 times per week and do about the same amount of training on the road. You can do some quick advertising for track racing: What makes this sport so unique? Stefan // Its not only about fast legs. You need to drive tactically. We sprinters also have very varied training: Strength-, road- and track training. We track sprinters are seen more often on the road than on the track. Strength training has gained importance. Exciting: the constant evolution of the material. Every detail is worked on, to make the bike even more stiff and aerodynamic. Every nation and every manufacturer tries to get the best around these rules.
