Introduction
1.1. Purpose of Document

This manual instructs the technician in the installation of the I-Gate 4000 PRO system. Included are descriptions of necessary tools, site preparation, gateway cabinet installation, insertion of cards and cables, and procedures that bring the IGate 4000 PRO to full operational status. The chapters in the manual are presented in the order in which the procedures should be carried out. The instructions can also be used by the customer on-site for re-installation or troubleshooting.

1.2. General
The I-Gate 4000 PRO is among the industry's first real carrier-class IP Telephony platforms with carrier-class performance. It is designed to provide all the following carrier-class features: openness, reliability, scalability, capacity, availability and fixed line voice quality. The I-Gate 4000 PRO Media Gateway is divided into two sections: the Main Hardware section on the lower shelf containing the Main cards, and the upper shelf section containing the I/O cards. The I-Gate 4000 PRO Media Gateway is encased in a chassis that complies with ETSI 300 119 requirements. I-Gate 4000 PRO features front-loading cards and I/O connections for convenient access to both I/O connections and the cards. There are no connections at the rear of the terminal. Each Interface card has a protective panel for physical protection and as a guard against electromagnetic interference (EMI). Similarly, the Main Hardware section has a door that acts both as a physical protection and also against electromagnetic interference (EMI). This feature makes the insertion of blank cards unnecessary.

Preparations & Precautions

2.4. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Precautions

Warning: The I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal contains devices that can be damaged by accidental introduction of ground or foreign voltages. Therefore, read carefully all points in this section regarding electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other electrical precautions before proceeding with installation.

Certain tools and test equipment commonly used on electromechanical systems should never be used on the I-Gate 4000 PRO. These include: battery buzzers, AC wire-wrap guns, electric soldering irons and guns, test picks and test lamps. The following precautions must be observed: ! The I-Gate 4000 PRO uses various Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) devices. All personal tools, test equipment and metal objects that come into contact with MOS devices must be electrically grounded. Any static or foreign voltage that is introduced into these devices may damage them permanently. ! Do not use tools or test equipment, such as test lamps and picks that draw an appreciable amount of current when attached to the system. ! Do not use tools or test equipment that could introduce foreign voltages into the system. For example, a battery-powered buzzer operates on only six or nine volts, but the voltage introduced across the buzzer coil when the magnetic field collapses can reach a momentary peak in excess of 100V, which can destroy solid-state devices. ! Use only hand-powered or battery-powered wire-wrap guns in equipment cabinets. AC-powered wire-wrap guns and lead verification equipment can be used at the distribution frames only if all cabling has been disconnected from the cabinet. ! When handling I-Gate 4000 PRO cards, always use an anti-static strap.

Cabinet Ins Installation tallation

This chapter provides instructions for on-site cabinet installation of the I-Gate 4000 PRO chassis. For the purposes of installation, the cabinets can be divided into two groups: the ETSI, NEBS or standard 19in./23inch wide type cabinet; and the 19in./47U-high type cabinet.
Note: In Section 5.1, the ETSI type cabinet is described. Unless specifically mentioned the same installation principles also apply to the NEBS and the standard 19inch x 23inch wide type cabinet. Section 5.2 however, applies only to the 19in./47U-high cabinet. Warning: The TUV certificate requires a steel or aluminum buffer plate to be installed in the bottom enclosure of the cabinet.

5.1. ETSI Cabinet Installation

While installing the ETSI cabinets, make sure that they stand flush with one another in order to reinforce the structure. Keeping the cabinets fully level is extremely important to prevent deformation of the gateways and cards. Such deformation would also hamper the proper operation of the gateway doors. Finally, apart from anchoring the cabinet to the floor (items 5.1.1 and 5.1.2) you must bolt the cabinet to the ceiling or wall (items 5.1.3 and 5.1.4).

5.1.1. Bolting the ETSI Cabinet to a Concrete Floor

1. Mark out the floor in each equipment room for the cabinet's location. (See Figure 5-1 for locations of holes to be made in a concrete floor.) If installing more than one ETSI cabinet, make sure they stand flush with one another. 2. Using a 10mm drill bit, drill the mounting holes approximately 60mm deep (see Figure 5-2). Clear out debris from the hole (use forced air).

Veraz Networks Inc. Proprietary

5-1

Cabinet Installation

I-Gate 4000 PRO Installation

3. Insert expansion shields into the holes. 4. Insert the anchoring screws into the holes. You may want to use pliers to squeeze the lower end of the screws so that they go in more easily. Hammer them in using light strokes until they protrude about 20 mm. 5. Remove the washers and nuts from the anchoring screws. 6. If the lower gateway chassis is already installed, remove it by unscrewing the screws on each side and pulling the gateway chassis out. Make sure that no cards are installed. Do not remove a gateway with cards inside. 7. Position the ETSI cabinet so that holes "A" (see Figure 5-1) fit over the anchoring screws. 8. Level the cabinet by adjusting the leveling screws (Figure 5-3) with a 5 mm Allen key. Use a carpenter's level or a plumb line for verification. 9. Make sure that there is at least a 0.5 to 1.0 mm space between the bottom of the ETSI cabinet and the anchoring surface. Use pieces of sheet metal (or similar) for this purpose. 10. Tighten the nuts on the anchoring screws, along with the flat washer and lock washer. When tightening each screw, the ETSI cabinet must remain level. 11. If you have removed the lower gateway chassis, replace it. To replace the gateway chassis, perform step 6 in the reverse order.

5.1.2. Connecting the ETSI Cabinet to a Floating Floor

1. Mark out the location of the ETSI cabinets. Make sure that they stand flush with one another. 2. Mark out the locations on the floating floor where the ETSI cabinet's screw anchors will be inserted. They will be placed through the center of the mounting holes located on the underside of the cabinet. 3. Using a 10 mm drill, drill holes where the screw anchors are marked out on the floating floor (see Figure 5-4). 4. Insert the screw anchors into the holes until they reach the concrete floor, as shown in Figure 5-4. Level the screw anchors, and mark out the exact location where they touch the concrete floor. Ensure that the four markings constitute a rectangle measuring approximately 140 x 565 mm. If necessary, correct the markings, but ensure that the anchor screws remain vertical. 5. Using a 10 mm drill, make holes 60 mm deep, so the screw anchors touch the concrete floor, (marked out in the previous step) as shown in Figure 5-4. 6. Using an air compressor or similar device, clean the debris from the holes. 7. Insert the screw anchors into the holes on the concrete floor. Then, using light strokes, hammer the screw anchors deeper into the holes until they are flush with the floor. 8. Cut the threaded rods to a size equal to the distance between the concrete floor and the upper side of the floating floor, plus an additional 60 mm. 9. Screw an M8 nut, spring washer and flat washer to a depth of 50 mm from the top of the threaded rod. Insert the top of the threaded rod with the nut into the screw anchor in the concrete floor. Tighten the nuts on the screw anchors, as shown in Figure 5-4. 10. Screw two nuts and a flat washer on the threaded rod, to a height of 20 mm under the floating floor. 11. Put the floating floor tiles on top of the threaded rods. Make sure that they are correctly positioned. Drill holes at the spot where the ends of the threaded rods protrude from the floating floor.

12. Screw in the two nuts that were placed on the threaded rods until the flat washers are less than 2 mm from the bottom of the floating floor. Secure the two nuts together by tightening each one. 13. Slide the tile over the 4 threaded rods and verify that the nuts support the tile. 14. Position the ETSI cabinets over the screw anchors. 15. Level the ETSI cabinet by adjusting the leveling screws with a 5 mm Allen key. Use a carpenter's level or a plumb line for verification. 16. Make sure that there is at least a 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm space between the bottom of the ETSI cabinet and the anchoring surface. Use pieces of sheet metal (or something similar) for this purpose. 17. Tighten the nuts, including the flat washers and the spring washers, of the screw anchors. Make sure that the ETSI cabinet remains level. If necessary, repeat the leveling and tightening procedures. 18. Connect the grounding cable, using the appropriate screws, to the underside of the ETSI cabinet. 19. Complete the leveling and tightening of the remaining ETSI cabinets, as described above. Ensure that the cabinets are flush with one another.

5.2. 19in./47U high Cabinet Installation

While installing the 19in./47U high cabinets, make sure that they stand flush with one another in order to reinforce the structure. Keeping the cabinets fully level is extremely important to prevent deformation of the gateways and cards. Such deformation would also hamper the proper operation of the gateway doors. The cabinets must also be anchored to the floor (items 5.2.1 and 5.2.2).
Notes: 1. The 19in./47U high cabinet does not require fixing to the wall. 2. The 19in./47U high cabinet does not support an overhead cable run. 3. The 19in./47U high cabinet is supplied with side panels. When a rack-to-rack installation is required, these panels must be removed. (See Figure 5-10).

5.2.1. Bolting the 19in./47U high Cabinet to a Concrete Floor

1. Mark out the floor in each equipment room for the cabinet's location. See Figure 5-7 for locations of holes to be made in a concrete floor. If installing more than one 19in./47U high cabinet, make sure they stand flush with one another. 2. Using a 16mm drill bit, drill the mounting holes approximately 75mm deep (see Figure 5-7). Clear out debris from the hole (use forced air). 7. Position the 19in./47U high cabinet so that the drilled holes (see Figure 5-8) fit over the anchoring screws.

Installing the Chassis

If the chassis is not already installed in the cabinet, follow the instructions below. If you are installing a chassis into an ETSI, 45U-54U or 19in./47U cabinet, the cabinet must first be bolted to the floor (see Chapter 5). The procedure for mounting the chassis is the same for both the ETSI, 45U-54U and 19in./47U cabinet, except that the mounting kit is different (see Section 0 "Mounting Kit). The chassis can also be installed into a NEBS cabinet. The cabinet can be fitted with up to 3 terminal chassis. However, only the two upper terminals are fitted with an air baffle (see Figure 3-2).
Note: If the customer requires that the heat dissipation requirements will be as stipulated in GR-63-CORE Objective 4-14, then only two terminals may be installed per cabinet.

Installing the Chassis

I-Gate 4000 PRO Installation

To attach the mounting brackets to the chassis: 1. Select the appropriate position for the mounting brackets. There are three sets of pre-drilled holes on each side of the I-Gate 4000 PRO. These are the locations for the mounting brackets. The three sets of holes are related to the type of mounting (see Table 6-1).
Table 6-1: Holes of Chassis Mounting Brackets

Type of Mounting
19" ETSI NEBS

Location of holes
Front Middle Rear

Number of holes

Use the holes that allow the appropriate clearance for your installation. For example, if you are mounting the I-Gate 4000 PRO into a cabinet with a closing door, choose the set of holes closest to the front of the I-Gate 4000 PRO chassis. This will allow the I-Gate 4000 PRO to be mounted further behind the cabinet door. 2. Use three of the included attachment screws to attach one of the mounting brackets to the side of the chassis. It does not matter which side is attached first. Do not tighten the screws until all three screws are in place. This will allow you to adjust the mounting bracket if there are any alignment problems. 3. Before attaching the second bracket to the chassis, confirm that you are using the set of holes that corresponds to those on the other side of the chassis. 4. Use the remaining three attachment screws to attach the second mounting bracket to the side of the I-Gate 4000 PRO.

6.3. Inserting the Chassis into the Cabinet

1. Measure the cabinet and determine which holes will be used for fastening the chassis. Remember to make room for the PDU and network external switch shelf (if applicable). 2. Insert four nuts into the holes specified in step 1. These nuts are housed in Tinnerman clips, which allow you to fasten them into the holes. Hold the clips, as shown in Figure 6-3, squeeze them, and insert them into the hole. You may have to use a screwdriver or pliers to squeeze the clips. 3. Carefully lift the empty chassis and insert it into the cabinet in the location selected in step 1. Note that there are mounting pins located on each side of the chassis (see Figure 6-4). Place these pins in the chassis screw holes as shown. In this way, the chassis is supported until you tighten the chassis screws in step 4 below. 4. Tighten the screws to fasten the chassis to the cabinet. 5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 for every chassis. Remember to make room for the network external switch shelf and the PDU.

8.6. PEFU and PEFD Cards

The PEFU and PEFD cards are located in card slot 32 (right-most slot of the I/O shelf section). The PEFU is located in the upper part of the slot and the PEFD card in the lower part of the slot. Each one of these cards supports connection to an independent -48/-60 VDC building power source and handles the power consumption of a fully configured IGate 4000 PRO shelf. The two cards are required to support external power feed redundancy. In addition, the I-Gate 4000 PRO power supply function is implemented according to a distributed model (per card), thus minimizing costs and ensuring very high system reliability. Connector: 2-pin polarized D-shaped Power Connector Cable: Input DC Cable (ref. Veraz Dwg. No. 380162-1125)

PDU & Power Connection

9.2. Power Connection

After the PDU has been installed in a cabinet, it needs to be grounded, connected to a PEFU/PEFD card and connected to the Central Office power supply. The I-Gate 4000 PRO can be powered from two sources -48/-60 VDC connected to the unit via the PEFU/PEFD cards (see Figure 9-5). If only one source is available from the Central Office, one PEFD/PEFU card is required to support system operation. If two sources are available from the Central Office then a second module can be used to provide component redundancy. The gateway's power source can be either a Switching Center, providing a 48-volt battery system or an external AC-to-DC power converter (available from Veraz Networks). To set up the power connection: 1. Make sure that the Central Office and PDU Circuit Breakers are set to OFF. 2. Insert the green and yellow protective ground terminal through the cable access hole and into the socket on the left side of the PDU. 3. Connect the building protective ground to the PDU. Each gateway uses a pair of protective circuit breakers (one for each source) with a minimum of 27 amperes per circuit breaker. 4. Connect the ground cable from the right hand side of the PDU to the two screws located on the top right-hand side of the I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal. 5. Connect the power cables. They extend from the PDU (on the right side) to the PEFU/PEFD card in each gateway. Firmly attach the connector (see Figure 9-3 and Figure 9-5) by hand-tightening the two screws on either side of the connector.

Initialization

10

This chapter describes the procedures required to initialize the I-Gate 4000 PRO system. These steps bring the I-Gate 4000 PRO to fully operational status and establish its communication with the VerazView-xMS station. Initialization consists of the procedures described sequentially in the following sections: 1. Section 10.1 "Configuring IP address on TPSM card", page 10-2. 2. Section 10.2 "Configuring default router IP address on TPSM card", page 10-5. 3. Section 10.3 "Downloading the software version", page 10-6. Steps 1 and 2 are performed using the onsite monitor PC. Once you have performed steps 1 and 2, you can disconnect the terminal from the onsite monitor PC. Step 3 is performed from the VerazView-xMS station.

9. Type: IpChange "#.#.#.#:h1h2h3h4h5h6h7h8" and press < Enter > . In this command line, the first parameter ("#.#.#.#") is the new IP address. Substitute the specific numbers of your new IP address for the # signs, where # can be any number from 1 to 255. Do not add any leading 0's; for example, in place of one (#) sign, type "13" and not "013". The second parameter in this command line ("h1h2h3h4h5h6h7h8") is the network subnet mask. The subnet mask must be in hexadecimal format. Substitute the specific numbers of your new network subnet mask for the h1h2 symbols, where h1h2 can be any hexadecimal number from 00 to ff, and the entire network mask is a series of four pairs (h1h2) of hexadecimal digits. For example, ff = 255. Thus, for this step, your final command line might appear as follows: IpChange "192.168.49.50:ffffff00" where: ffffff00 represents the address 255.255.255.0 After you press <Enter>, the application displays a feedback line signifying that your input has been correctly formatted and accepted: value = 0 =0x0 10. Reboot the terminal (this may take a few seconds). 11. Type ifShow; a list of three groups of parameters is displayed. Note the following in the third group of parameters:
! !

The line internet address shows the new IP address that you entered in step 8. The line netmask shows the network subnet mask that you entered in step 8.

10.2. Configuring default router IP address on TPSM card

The second step of initialization involves configuring the default router IP address on TPSM card. To configure the default router IP address on TPSM card: 1. In the HyperTerminal screen, type: routeShow. This command displays a table containing a list of routers with their parameters. The table contains two columns: the column headed gateway lists the default gateways, and the column headed destination lists the network destinations to which each gateway leads. Initially, this table contains only one row. 2. Type: routeAdd "#.#.#.#","#.#.#.#" and press < Enter > . In this command, the first parameter ("#.#.#.#") represents the IP address of the network destination, and the second parameter ("#.#.#.#") represents the IP address of the entity that leads to it. Substitute the specific numbers of your gateway address for the # signs. Thus, for this step, your final command line might appear as follows: routeAdd "0.0.0.0","123.9.16.254" In the above line, 123.9.16.254 is the router family address. After you press <Enter>, the application displays a feedback line value = 0 =0x0 signifying that your input has been correctly formatted and accepted. 3. Type: routeShow. This command once again displays the same table as in step 1, but now the table contains two rows, the first row showing the destination and gateway addresses that you typed in step 2.

4. Ensure that a straight-network cable is connected from the TPSI card to the Ethernet Switch. 5. To make sure that you are communicating with the I-Gate 4000 PRO, you may exercise the ping command. From the Windows Start menu, select Run and type: ping #.#.#.#, where the series of # signs represent the terminal IP address. A DOS window pops up. If the connection is functioning normally, this window presents the time it takes the I-Gate 4000 PRO to reply. In case the connection is absent, you will receive a message: "Request time-out". Once you have completed the above steps, you can disconnect the terminal from the onsite monitor PC.

10.3. Downloading the software version

The third step of initialization consists of downloading the software to the terminal and verifying the proper communication with the VerazView-xMS. The terminal's flash memory chip on the TPSM card contains the software version files that enable communication with the VerazView-xMS. To download the software version: 1. On the VerazView-xMS station, launch VerazView-xMS. 2. In the Topology Tree, add a site, and add the I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal to this site. 3. Copy the software version from the CDROM to the following directory path: C:\Program files\VerazView\VerazView-xMS\Software_lib

Initialization

4. Copy all files from the bin folder of the new software version to the bin folder under Software_lib. In addition, copy the fce files to a folder named as the software version (see typical tree example).

5. Using the SVM application, add the software version to the I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal and then activate the software version. 6. The system reboots. 7. Power off the I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal and move DIPS1 switch #3 back to the OFF position (switch #1 should always be On).
DIPS1

8. Power on the I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal. 9. At this point you should be able to manage the terminal using the VerazViewxMS server and web client. (VerazView-xMS requires the appropriate license plug to be installed).

Cooling
11.1. Fan Tray Units

11

The cooling system of an I-Gate 4000 PRO System, consists of two fan trays, fitted side by side on the fan tray shelf and an air baffle located underneath the fan trays (see Figure 11-1). A new I-Gate 4000 PRO system arrives from the factory with the cooling system already in place, you do not need to install it separately. Later, however, you can remove the fan tray to replace individual fans, or to replace the entire fan tray as needed.

Figure 11-1: Two Fan Tray Units installed in the IG4K PRO

The Fan Tray Shelf (see Figure 11-2) is located at the bottom of each I-Gate 4000 PRO chassis. It contains two trays, each with four fans. If a fan fails, any three fans on each tray unit can compensate by increasing the speed to Turbo and still supply the system's cooling requirements. If a fan fails an alarm is generated and the specific fan tray should be replaced (see Table 11-1).

11.2. Fan Operation

The fan tray's circuit board provides fan status information (either Go or No-Go) via the communication star bus controller. This information is sent to the TPSM central controller of the I-Gate 4000 PRO, which performs regular polling of the fans. If a fan fails, a No-Go condition exists in one of the fans, and an alarm indication is sent from the fan tray module to the I-Gate 4000 PRO System Controller. In this event you should replace the entire fan tray. There are two conditions that affect a change of speed in the fans: 1. Overheating of the cards - each of the system cards has a heat sensor. If the temperature threshold is exceeded in any one of the cards, an alarm is sent to the TPSM controller, which instructs the fans to operate at a higher speed. 2. Fan malfunction - in this case, the TPSM controller instructs the failed fan to stop operation and an indication of the specific failed fan is displayed on the front panel of the Fan Tray (see Table 11-1). In this instance too, a command is sent to the fans that are operating normally to increase their speed so as to compensate for the failed fan. The fan tray module is connected with a 25-pin D-type connector to the I-Gate 4000 PRO backplane (see Figure 11-3).

Field Acceptance Accept ance

12.1. Introduction

12

Two stages are required in testing the system. They are the Field Acceptance Tests and Commissioning Procedure Tests. This Chapter describes the basic Field Acceptance Test Procedures for the I-Gate 4000 PRO. The Commissioning Procedure Tests are described in Chapter 13. The purpose of the field acceptance tests is to verify that the I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal and the VerazView-xMS management station are in working order after installation and that all local wiring is correct and intact. These tests check the functioning of one end of the system.
Notes: 1. The appropriate Field Acceptance procedure depends on which Veraz equipment is used in the Customer's network. 2. In order to test the DS3 configuration, a test-set consisting of E1/DS1 Interface and Main cards is required.

12.2. Field Acceptance Test Procedure

The field acceptance test procedure assumes that the installation procedure was performed successfully according to the Veraz Networks installation document and that the 48 VDC power supply has also been checked. These tests demonstrate that the I-Gate 4000 PRO is correctly assembled and installed at the site and is ready for commissioning. The trunk replacement configuration test map should be loaded to the terminal before any test activity takes place. The configuration maps should be modified according to the existing hardware configuration in the specific terminal to be tested, and in agreement with Veraz recommendations.

Commissioning Procedure

13

This chapter contains the second stage of the basic test procedures of the I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal system. It consists of the commissioning procedure tests, whose purpose is to check system performance with test traffic. The tests described in this chapter check the functionality of the system with both ends installed and traffic passing through the connections. "Static Trunking" testing is described in item 13.2 - "Testing Traffic in Static Trunking" mode.
Notes: 1. The appropriate Field Acceptance procedure depends on which Veraz equipment is used in the Customer's network. 2. In order to test the DS3 configuration, a test-set that includes E1/DS1 Interface and Main cards is required.

PRAPRA - 1 Frame Analyzer

D.1. General

The PRA-1 Frame Analyzer, a third party product, is designed for installing and maintaining transmission and switching equipment that has been connected to a data network. The PRA-1, monitors incoming and outgoing frames simultaneously, and in particular, the information in time slot 16. The optional, integral generator section can be used to test all the error recognition circuits in the system; in-service loopthrough measurements can be performed for this purpose.

Figure D-1: PRA-1 Frame Analyzer

P R A - 1 F r a m e A n a l yz e r

I-Gate 4000 PRO Installation

Two completely separate and independent receive sections for both forward and backward channels have been provided so that two 2048 kbit/s multiplexed frames can be examined simultaneously. This makes it possible for the PRA-1 to monitor all frame signals and alarm signals. There are two display modes: 1. LEDs display the following: remote alarms in non-frame alignment words and non-multiframe alignment words, code violations, frame errors, CRC errors, multiframe errors and, under certain circumstances, bit errors. Any event is displayed for at least 100 ms. It is also possible to display the octet frame alignment signal, non-frame alignment word, multiframe alignment signal/not multiframe alignment signal, CRC multiframe alignment signal and the 8-bit words from the selected non-signaling channel in real time. 2. All events can be retrieved at any time from an alarm memory. Memory is cleared when a new test interval is started, or whenever the operator requires. The following are also shown: no signal, alarm indication signal, loss of frame sync., CRC multiframe errors, continuous zero signal, and several other events that occur in conjunction with bit error measurements. The microprocessor sorts the alarms that have been recorded according to priority, so giving a very userfriendly display.

D.2. Interfaces
The receiver inputs fulfill CCITT Rec. G.703; with a high tolerance to input jitter. No matter what the received bit pattern might be, the receiver can recover the required timing information from the received signal.

P R A - 1 F r a m e A n a l yz e r

D.3. Signaling
The PRA-1 is designed to record, evaluate and display the signaling time slot 16, evaluate the signaling in each frame, and time measurements between outgoing and incoming signaling words. The user is free to select trigger criteria for starting and stopping measurements. The PRA-1 has a P to evaluate signaling. When time difference deviation or pulse distortion is being measured, various nominal values with independent, adjustable limits can be entered. If the measured parameter is outside the given limits, the PRA-1 indicates the appropriate pulse to the operator and displays the time difference. Signaling can be shown in the following ways: The time between any two states can be shown directly on the PRA-1's display, or a single channel oscilloscope can be connected to the PRA-1 to show 8 signaling bits simultaneously. For a particular setting of the oscilloscope, flicker-free display of pulse trains is possible up to 1000 seconds. Cursors can be displayed on the screen for time difference measurements. No matter what display range is used, a resolution of 2ms can be achieved in this way. The signaling bits can be printed out in the form of a timing diagram with the built-in printer. The whole or part of the pulse diagram can be shown. The resolution is selectable.

D.4. Transmission measurements

Measurements to determine digital transmission path quality are of vital importance. The distribution of errors as a function of time is gaining importance in this context. Recommendation G.821 describes an error analysis procedure that makes use of the all digital Hypothetical Reference Connection (HRX). Bit error measurements (option) are performed using a special synchronization technique that allows valid measurements to be made at high error ratios and in the presence of long error bursts. The thresholds for errored seconds, degraded minutes and severely errored seconds can be adjusted.

P R A - 1 F r a m e A n a l yz e r

I-Gate 4000 PRO Installation

The detection of transmission errors can be improved to a great extent if further check bits are used. In the case of extended frames, the CRC-4 check sum of each multiframe is calculated and the result compared with the received CRC bits. Error ratio measurements can be performed on the CRC bits and the CRC frames. Using an option that can be connected to the generator and receiver separately, the CRC words are regenerated in loop-through mode in the generator and injected into the transmitted signal. It is also possible to make delay measurements (loop-back measurements) using the bit error measurement facilities when the generator section is fitted. The PRA-1 calculates the wideband level directly from the code words. Maximal code words, coder offset and signal frequency can also be measured precisely.

D.5. Printer
The integral printer is used to output graphic signaling display, all numerical results, as well as time, date and measurement mode information. The printer has manual and remote control facilities.

Configuration Maps
E.1. General

The Configuration Maps described in this appendix are presented as a general guide.

1. The configuration maps suggested in this appendix apply to a fully populated Terminal. 2. To carry out these tests an additional set of cards (i.e. E1/DS1 Interface card and E1/DS1 Main card) is required. 3. Generally each configuration map is designed to test two DSPK cards. For all cases, the maps should be based on the original hardware configuration that is to be tested. For example, a terminal with 4 DSPK cards requires only two different maps to be used.

Note: Configuration assumes 1.5M (24 timeslots in DS1) on DS3 and 2M (31 timeslots in E1) on the E1 side, if other configurations are used the appropriate timeslot assignments should be performed
