of Terms Ethics are the standards set by communities, organizations, religions and families that govern behaviour. Law refers to the rules set out by government. The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act is the law that workers for the provincial or local governments must observe in regards to confidentiality. Policy refers to rules set out by 'individual employers. Employers may establish specific expectations regarding confidentiality in their policy handbooks. Workers should know their employer's policies. As an employee, they coul.d be dismissed for violating their employer's policies.
