Standard 4.1c Estimate to tens, hundreds, thousands, and millions (rounding)

Rounding: If your number is 0 4, it stays the same (stay on the floor)
If your number is 5 9, you round up (climb the vine)

Example: Round to the nearest hundreds

382 400
Why? Because the 8 in the tens place is between 5 and 9. That means 3 in the
hundreds place is going to become a 4. It also means that 382 is closer
to 400 then it is to 300.
Round to the nearest ten thousands
361, 420 360, 000
Why? Because the 1 in the thousands place is between 1 and 4. That means
the 6 in the ten thousands place is going to stay a 6.
1) Round to the nearest hundreds.

Written Form twenty one thousand, five hundred
seventy-eight
Example: Write the number in standard, written or expanded form
530, 923 Expanded Form: 500,000 + 30,000 + 900 + 20 + 3

Standard 4.1b Compare and order whole numbers until millions (<, >, =)
Comparing Numbers
>
<
=

greater than (he is hungry)

less than (he is full)
equal to (they are the same)

Example: Compare numbers using > , < or =

792 > 391
What does this mean: The mouth is open to the larger number which means 792
is greater than 391.
402 < 830
What does this mean: The mouth is closed to the smaller number (and open to
the larger number) which means 401 is less than 830.
1, 920 = 1, 920
What does this mean: The equal sign is used because 1, 920 is equal to 1, 920.
1) 304
2) 6, 935
3) 263
4) 900, 843

6) 3, 333

3, 333

7) 200, 042

200, 402

8) 4, 430, 030

4, 420, 030
