basic techniques of communication have led us to the advanced technologies and methods of contact that we have in our world today.
slideshow will display how much our society has evolved in ways of communication.

BC - 2900 BC: The Phoenicians developed the basic alphabet.


BC: Greeks use the alphabet written from left to right. BC: Oldest record of writing in China. The letters were engraved in bones. BC: The first encyclopedia in the world is written in Syria.

150 BC Greeks came up with a thick smoking fire as a way of alerting other people of their locations. One the oldest methods of long-distance communications. Presently, people use this when they are lost and need to be rescued. (Ex. In the woods, in the snow, etc) The North American Indians also communicated using smoke signals. Each tribe used its own signaling system and understanding.

1795 The first pencil is created (mixture of clay and graphite). 1839 The first lasting eraser was invented (previous erasers would rot like food). 1847 The first manual pencil sharpener is invented. 1888 First ballpoint pen is invented. These writing instruments allow us to communicate with people from all over the world by writing letters to each other.

450: Newspapers appear in Europe. 1455: A metal printing press is invented. 1560: Primitive image making is invented. 1650: First daily newspaper. 1714: First type writer is invented.

- The first electric telegraph is invented. - Samuel Morse invents the Morse Code.

- High speed photography is invented creating first moving pictures that captured motion. - Kodak invents the roll film camera.

- Thomas Edison demonstrated the first talking motion picture.

1902 - Radio signals from Cornwall to Newfoundland are transmitted - the first radio signal across the Atlantic Ocean. 1916 - First radios with tuners and different stations. 1927 - NBC starts two radio networks. 1930 - Radio popularity spreads with the "Golden Age" of radio.

- The television is invented (the first television camera).

- Computers are sold commercially. 1969 - The first Internet started. 1971 - The floppy disk invented. 1976 - The home computer is invented. 1981 - First time IBM PC computers are ever sold to public.

1653 First established postal system in Paris. 1837 The adhesive postage stamp is invented. Also known as Snail Mail because it takes days for a message to be delivered or received.

The first book about teaching sign language to deaf people was published. The first free school for deaf people is established in Paris.

1990 The first internet browser was invented (WorldWideWeb - later called Nexus). 1996 Google was invented, taking the place of paperback and hard cover dictionaries and encyclopedias.

1957 - The world's first satellite was launched (about t he size of a basketball, weighed only 183 pounds).

2013 America launches a $900 million dollar military communications satellite.

Satellites are what give the world access to internet, GPS, news, weather, entertainment, and social media making it possible for people to know an event happening on the other side of the world within seconds that it happens.

1973 - The first cell phone is invented. 1983 - The cell phone goes public - put out by Motorola. 1989 - The flip phone is introduced. 1993 - Text messaging is developed. 2002 - The first smart phone is invented. 2002 - A camera phone is made. 2007 - The Apple iPhone is released.

1995 - MSN Messenger was invented. This was the equivalent to text messaging in todays world. 2003 Skype was founded which allowed people to see each other from opposite sides of the world. 2004 Facebook was launched. People were able to stay connected to their friends and family by scrolling through their newsfeed. 2006 Twitter was invented, which connected people through tweets.

Singers and artists are able to communicate and relate to their fans by expressing how they feel in their song lyrics. They describe situations or events that have happened to themselves so that people who listen to their songs can relate to it from their own lives. This allows the singers to be able to connect with their fans; to help them get through tough times in their lives, to celebrate good times with them, and to comfort them with their melodies of experience.

Artists are able to express their feelings and emotions through their art work.

Some artists display their art in galleries for others to admire and gain inspiration from.
If an artist is happy and relaxed, they may create a piece that is a wide open field filled with blooming spring flowers and a setting sun in the background. This gives the viewer a sense of peace, tranquility, and belonging.

If an artist is angry or stressed, they may create a scene of chaos a boat being tossed about by gigantic navy blue waves underneath a dark grey sky with no sun in sight. This gives the viewer a sense of discomfort, suspense, and hopelessness.

The

first wireless signal received trans-Atlantic to Signal Hill, St. Johns in 1901 by Marconi. Wireless has come a long way since 1902; we have created wireless radio, internet, telephones, and satellites. 1962 - The first communication satellite, Telstar, is launched into orbit.

The integrated circuit was invented. Is a small electronic device made out of a semiconductor material. Also known as an IC Is used in all electronic equipment today and have revolutionized the world of electronics.
