Recent advancements in Print, Electronic, Fax, Internet, Interactive Video and Teleconference

Print media refers to publications that are distributed in a printed form on paper which must be delivered to customers in physical form either through hand delivery or physical purchase. It includes newspapers, weeklies, magazines, monthlies, books, pamphlets and other forms of printed journals. Q. What is electronic media? Electronic Media is information or data that is created, distributed and accessed using a form of electronics, electromechanical energy or any equipment used in electronic communications. The common equipment we use on a day to day basis to access Electronic Media is our television, radio, computer, cell phones and other devices transporting information to and from us by means of electronic involvement.

Q. What are the recent developments in print and electronic media? The contribution of print media in providing information and transfer of knowledge is remarkable. Now-a-days, print media is faster than all ever before due to amazing advances in technology in recent years. Technical breakthroughs alter the way we perceive the universe and manner in which we communicate with one another. So its become important to study recent trends of print media-newspaper, magazines, booklet etc in the development communication of country and worldwide. 1) Advances in page layout, colours and photography:Earlier Newspapers use to have to rely on hot metal printing where molten metal, lead and antimony were used for headlines and text but with introduction to special softwares ,there has been increase in speed of printing which are not only accurately designed but appeal to the eye of reader.It has also lead to creative innovation in print media. 2) E-papers

With the help of internet today almost all newspapers have internet editions.This is called e-paper or e-edition. For example, the Hindustan Times or Indian Express or Times of India can be read on the internet through their net editions. Each paper has a dotcom name for their site, like paper.hindustantimes.com or www.times of india.com. While you have to pay for buying a newspaper, the internet edition of that newspaper is free of charge and is accessible if you have a computer and internet connection. 3) Web edition Some newspapers are published only on the internet. These are called web newspapers. One advantage of internet papers is that they are available worldwide which are updated every minute. For example yahoo news, etc. You can also subscribe to such sites with which you can receive mails with latest news and information. 4) E-Journals An electronic journal is a periodical publication of are scholarly journals or intellectual magazines that can be accessed via electronic transmission or published in electronic format, usually on the Internet. They are a specialized form of electronic document: they have the purpose of providing material for academic research and study.Most electronic journals are published in HTML and PDF formats. 5) E-Books An electronic book is a book-length publication in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, and produced on, published through, and readable on computers or other electronic devices.

6) Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) Another interesting technology is Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) which allows you to watch television on computers and mobile phones. This allows the consumers to watch television, record programmes and share their experiences with their friends with the help of an internet connection and a set top box provided for the purpose. Under this system, a cell phone can be used to schedule the recording of a programme. This will offer the consumers greater choice, control and convenience.

7) Advancements in radio:a) Phone in programme In this age of technological development, phone-in is the most important format. This is called interactive programming where the

listener and the presenter talk to each other.The same can be seen on television also these days eg. In news channels. b) Radio bridge : Radio bridge means connecting different stations throughout the length and breadth of the country. In this technique, for example, an expert sitting at Chennai can interact with the common man in the studio in Delhi. This format was first used by All India Radio during elections. c) Radio on internet : Radio on internet is a growing phenomenon with thousands of radio stations operating through computer modems. It is altogether a new format that removes the restrictions of frequency or license. It is cheap to set up. 8) Smart Phones:

A fax (short for facsimile and sometimes called telecopying) is the telephonic transmission of scanned-in printed material (text or images), usually to a telephone number associated with a printer or other output device. The original document is scanned with a fax machine, which treats the contents (text or images) as a single fixed graphic image, converting it into a bitmap. In this digital form, the information is transmitted as electrical signals through the telephone system. The receiving fax machine reconverts the coded image and prints a paper copy of the document. Q. What are recent advancements in fax? 1) E-Mail- Electronic mail is more efficient method of sending documents that require modification. E-mail files are already ASCII text so they can be edited immediately in any text editor or word processing program. 2) Internet fax- Internet fax,e-fax, or online fax is a general term which refers to the use of the Internet to send a document fax, rather than using only phone networks (traditional faxing) with a fax machine. The term "Internet fax" encompasses "web fax" and "email fax," along with VoIP fax, which refers to the use of Voice over Internet Protocol to send a fax. In this no hardware; no software and no extra telephone line required for fax. Eg.To send an Internet fax, the subscriber creates an email. The fax content can be written in the body of the email, and attachments are normally permitted. The destination fax number is entered in the "To" field, along with "@" and the Internet fax service name. For example, if thefax number were 1-555-234-5678, the email would be addressed to 15552345678@internetfax.com. In the "Subject" field the user enters the name of the recipient, "Attn: Mr. Wisegeek" for example.

The internet in simple terms is a network of the interlinked computer networking worldwide, which is accessible to the general public. These interconnected computers work by transmitting data through a special type of packet switching which is known as the IP or the internet protocol. Q. What are recent advancements in internet? 1) High Speed Internet-Early working on internet was a tedious task as it took a lot of time in downloading but with increased broadband bandwidth so that we can now use our Internet to watch videos on just about every topic imaginable. 2) E-Commerce and Online Shopping: Online shopping has created thousands of new businesses and made so many brick-and-mortar stores change the way that they do business. 3) Social Network Sites: Social networking sites like MySpace, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are some of the most popular sites worldwide. They have changed the way we live and certainly made the world a smaller place.A person can stay in contact with anywhere in the world, message, share videos, chat etc. 4) Blogs: In addition to the social network sits, blogs are one of the biggest advancements in this past decade as they have changed the way people and businesses communicate. A blog gives a person a platform to share their thoughts and for a business to show its personality. They offer the opportunity to reach a worldwide audience as you stand on your soap box and share your latest comments. 5) Online Collaboration and Webinars: Creating a program where the Speakers could share their expertise without having to leave their office, and the attendees didnt have to travel or pay to attend costly seminars or trade shows. The program has been a huge success because of technology like GoToWebinar(TM). This type of technology has increased the speed in which business is conducted by eliminating travel time and costs and allowing for group viewing and review of business materials. 6) Search sites: Sites which provide the information related to any question asked is a very important achievement for internet eg. sites like Google and Yahoo. These sites have done an incredible job of indexing an unbelievable amount of information and they are constantly improving the methods on how they help us sort through the Web. 7) Online video- Video has become incredibly popular because its a wonderful way to entertain, educate, inform or to showcase a business product or service. Its created a brand new industry (think YouTube and similar sites) and done wonders for the advancement of video capture devices. Q. What is interactive video? Interactive video is a term that describes any kind of video technology allowing users to have some level of interaction. For example, the video may offer the user choices so that he can change outcomes in future parts of the footage, or the video could use technology so that

Internet users could click on areas of the picture and open links. The idea of interactive video originated with early videodisc technologies and was eventually applied to everything from computer systems to video game machines. Q. What are recent advancements in interactive video? 1) Wire WAX-It is an interactive video tool. It allows anyone to add clickable hotspots to people and objects in video. These people and objects are automatically motion-tracked and, when clicked, display anything from video-in-video to product information and dynamic data from all over the web, right there in the video. It's about bringing information, advertising and experiences to the viewer when they want them and when it's relevant. 2) Youtube- There are some videos on youtube which allow you to select one or more options while the video is playing. For example, towards the end of a video, you may be asked to select which character in the video you liked best. Once you make your choice, a new video will open and may provide more information about the character you selected. you can create an interactive video in YouTube by using YouTube's "Annotations" feature. 3) Movie trailors 4) Music videos 5) Advertising Q. What is teleconference? A teleconference is a telephone meeting among two or more participants involving technology more sophisticated than a simple two-way phone connection. At its simplest, a teleconference can be an audio conference with one or both ends of the conference sharing a speaker phone. Q. What are recent advancements in teleconference? 1) Internet teleconferencing-In this with the use of internet people can talk to each other. It is an easy and cheap way to talk to other person but here you cannot see the person you are talking to.eg yahoo messenger, hotmail, viber, etc. 2) Videoconferencing-It is the conduct of a videoconference by a set of telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to communicate by simultaneous two-way video and audio transmissions. It has also been called 'visual collaboration' and is a type of groupware. Eg.skype, tango, google talk ETC. 3) Web conferencing- Web conferencing refers to a service that allows conferencing events to be shared with remote locations. These are sometimes referred to as webinars or, for interactive conferences, online workshops. Web Conferencing is conducting live meetings, presentations, training, collaborations, or marketing and product launches via the Internet. Either an application is downloaded and installed on each of the attendees computers, or a web-based application is launched in the attendees browser (usually accessed by clicking on

an invitation link distributed by e-mail). Any size organization can benefit from web conferencing from large enterprise companies with overseas branches to the small home based office. 4) Mobile Video Conferencing - Mobile devices have revolutionized the way in which we do business. Through Wi-Fi, 3G, and 4G connections, businesses are now able to connect from just about anywhere with anyone. Previously, you had to at least sit down at a computer to have a decent video conference.
