Dear Mayor Burnett and Members of the Carmel City Council, Over ten years ago, I served Carmel-By-The-Sea as a member of its Historic Preservation Committee, now the Historic Resources Board. My term ended when my husband and I sold our Carmel home and returned to Capitola fulltime. However, I've always remembered the pride and exhilaration I felt when our Committee was asked to participate in the creation of the City's Local Coastal Program through its updated Historic Preservation Ordinance. Between 2003 and 2011, I also worked as a historical consultant to Carmel's Planning Department. I did peer review of the City's new historic survey and later, prepared historic evaluations of potential historic resources. I strongly believe that all California history begins at the local level. That is why I want to offer my services to the City now. I understand there is an unexpected vacancy on the Historic Resources Board. I would like to apply for the position because I believe I would be a good fit for the Board as Carmel begins making plans for the 1OOth anniversary of city incorporation in 2016. I have time to give, since recently, my husband and I purchased a home in Carmel, where we are planning to live once again.
