ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA The type, quantity and layout of all appurtenances for storage tanks are specified in accordance with this standard. Standpipe and individual level instruments are connected directly to vessels and not to inlet or outlet piping. All connections to the standpipe are free draining. Connections to the bottom of vessels are avoided whenever possible, and are not be used when settlement of solids may be expected. A 2" dia. block valve is installed at the top and bottom connection of the standpipe to the vessel. (Saudi Aramco Library Drawing DC-950045.) Type of block valve installed is in conformance with the project drawing or P&ID. Pipe and piping components of the standpipe conformed with the pressure/temperature rating and line classification of the vessel as indicated in the vessel data sheet and P&ID or construction drawings. Vent valve with plug installed on the top blind flange and drain valve on the bottom blind flange of the standpipe. (Saudi Aramco Library Drawing DC-950045.) Standpipe is rigidly supported on the vessel. Diagonal bracing in horizontal and/or vertical plane may be required to avoid vibration. (Saudi Aramco Library Drawing DC-950045.) Welding Boss connections to standpipes are made with Type II, heavy welding bosses, as shown on Saudi Aramco Standard Drawing AE036175. Root block valves conforming to API STD 602 gate valves (per SAES-L008, Par. 7.11.1) are installed as close as possible to the vessel or standpipe connection to isolate each individual instrument from the process. No fittings are allowed between the root block valve and the connecting boss, except for a single pipe nipple. Threaded connections between the root valve and the boss are seal or bridge welded per Saudi Aramco Standard Drawing AB-036521. All taper thread connections are in accordance with ASME B1.20.1. Orientation of instrument connections to the standpipe complies with the orentation detail in Saudi Aramco Standard Drawing AB-036521.

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA Standpipes are not be used on packed towers, across filter pads, demister pads, in viscous service and in applications where materials being handled contain high concentrations of solids. Gauge Glasses conform with the following: a) The pressure and temperature ratings of the gauge glasses are equal to or higher than the vessel design pressure and temperature. b) Minimum rating for the reflex type are 14,000 kPa (2,000 psig) at 40C, and for the transparent type 7,000 kPa (1,000 psig) at 40C. c) Gauge glass gaskets are graphoil or graphite-impregnated type material. Pressure gage branch connection up to and including the first block (root) valve is meeting the applicable Saudi Aramco piping code corresponding to the vessel pressure rating. All pressure instrument installations are equipped with vent/drain valves.

Flanged thermowells or reducer flange for thermowell installation are furnished with ASME B16.5 flanges. (Refer to PIP-PCFTE000/102) a) Flange size is 1- inch minimum. b) Flange matches the piping class rating of the vessel with a minimum of Class 300# rating. Thermowells are tapered.and conforms with 5.2.5 Threaded thermowells are constructed and installed in accordance with Standard Drawing AB036019 Threaded thermowells are constructed and installed in accordance with Standard Drawing AB-036019 Thermowells are 316 stainless steel machined from barstock material unless alternative metallurgy is specified or dictated by process conditions. Natural frequency and wake frequency calculations are performed on each thermowell application, per ASME PTC 19.3. If the calculated wake frequency is equal to or greater than 80% of the thermowell's natural frequency, the next shorter standard size well is specified and the wake frequency calculation is repeated until the wake frequency falls below 80% of the natural frequency.
