Title: My Sheep Hear My Voice Passage: Romans 8:30; Jn. 10:3-5 Objectives: To be able to: 1.

Understand the meaning & Biblical bases of Gospel and Effective Call; 2. Dismiss misunderstandings about Gospel and Effective call; and, 3. Realize the significance of Gospel and Effective call. Proposition: A person is saved if he is elected by God from eternity past, not because of any merits, is called, is justified, and finally, glorified in heaven. Introduction: In Rm. 8:30, Paul points out to a definite order in which salvation comes to us. Last time, we talked about the first event that happened to a saved person, and that is election. [Review of Doctrine of Election]. However, although long ago, before the world was made, God predestined us to be his children, Paul points to the fact that in the actual outworking of His purpose in our lives, God called us. Paul indicates that there is a definite order in Gods saving purpose. I. Definition and Biblical Basis of the Call a. Distinction between Gospel and Effective Calling i. Gospel call is offered to all people, even those who do not accept it. Also called external or general call. ii. Effective call brings about a willing response from the person who hears it, and sometimes called internal calling. The old term is effectual calling. The Gospel call is general and external and often rejected, while the effective call is particular, internal and always effective. b. Biblical Basis of Gospel and Effective Calling i. Effective Calling Acts 16:14 ii. Gospel Call Rom. 10:14 c. Elements of the Gospel Call i. Explanation of the Facts concerning salvation 1. All people have sinned. Rm. 3:23 2. The Penalty for our sin is death. Rm. 6:23 3. Jesus Christ died to pay that penalty. Rm. 5:8 ii. Invitation to Respond to Christ Personally. Matt. 11:28-30; Rev. 3:20 iii. Promise of Forgiveness, Cleansing, & Eternal Life. Jn. 3:16; Jn. 6:37; 1 Jn. 1:9

II. Misunderstanding on the Doctrine of Vocation a. Since effective calling is always effective, it defies free will or the willing, voluntary response on the part of the person a misunderstanding of the Irresistible Grace. Although it is true that effective calling awakens and brings forth a response from us, we must always insist that this response still has to be a voluntary, willing response in which the individual person puts his trust in Christ. b. Gospel call is less important that Effective Call, since the former is often rejected. Gospel call is the means of God through which effective calling will come. Without the Gospel call, no one will be saved. Rm. 10:14 c. There is no need to share the Gospel since God has already elected some into salvation. In the actual outworking of his purpose in our lives, God has to call His elects. Evangelism is necessary because His elects must have to hear the gospel, and by hearing the gospel, saving faith comes. Rm. 10:17 We will study later that faith and repentance are part of the order of salvation, and thus, necessary. III. Importance of Gospel Call a. Gospel call is important because it is Biblical. b. It is important for us to be saved. c. Since we can never, identify who are really the elects, sharing the gospel is our only means, for them to hear the Word of God & be saved. Conclusion: As I end, when Jesus confronted the Pharisees in John 10, He said, I am the good shephered. My sheep hear my voice. This is what makes evangelism important. When Jesus called a person, if hes one of the elect, I believe he will hear and respond to His voice.
