Literacy - Students will continue to participate in Literacy groups where they will read books at their reading level and work on
comprehension, phonemic awareness and other reading skills. Students will continue to learn personal spelling words. We will focus on learning to write Explanations and Personal Responses and much of the grammar that will be taught this term centres on the types of grammar needed to write these texts.

Homework and Talk topics Attached to this overview is the list of Talk Topics and the Project for Term 4. While we
encourage all students to participate in these programs, they are not compulsory. Please support your child to complete as many as you are able to and let the classroom teacher know if you were unable to complete the tasks.

COGS Through the Connected Outcomes Group (COGS) unit Understanding Ourselves, students will explore how cultural diversity influences our beliefs, values and connections to places and people. This can be expressed through objects, songs, dances and stories. Science Water WorksThis unit provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of, and appreciation for, a precious natural resource. Through investigations, students explore how water is used, where water comes from and how to use it responsibly.

How can you help this term? There are a variety of ways you can help support your childs learning this term:
(1) Continue to support your child to complete homework, home reading and other projects (2) Volunteer to support your childs teacher during literacy groups (3) Talk to your class parent about other ways you can get involved in the school

Free Topic Choice: Students choose any topic they wish. They may bring in a prop for inspiration, such as : an item of clothing, an object, a photograph etc. (No toys, please) Water Usage: Using the tracking sheet provided, record how water is used in one of the rooms in your house. Powerhouse Recount : Choose one thing you were interested in during your Powerhouse Museum visit. How does it work and what does it do? Free Topic Choice: Students choose any topic they wish. They may bring in a prop for inspiration, such as : an item of clothing, an obj ect, a photograph etc. (No toys, please) Choose a body of water (pond, creek, river, dam, lake, ocean, sea) and discuss how it is used. What lives there and how does it interact with the water? This is to be presented to the class on either a piece of cardboard or PowerPoint presentation.

Week 6 Free Topic Choice: Students choose any topic they wish. They may bring in a prop for inspiration, such as : an item of clothing, an object, a 11 November photograph etc. (No toys, please) Week 7 Using recycled and/or household resources, create a watercraft that will be tested in water. Students will present an oral explanation (no th 18 November cardboard, PowerPoint necessary) on how their watercraft works and how it was made. Week 8 Using recycled and/or household resources, create a watercraft that will be tested in water. Students will present an oral explanation (no th 27 November cardboard, PowerPoint necessary) on how their watercraft works and how it was made. Your child will be given a day of the week for their presentations. To prepare for their talk, students should plan their speech at home, practice their speech and possibly prepare something visual for the audience to look at e.g. a photo, a drawing, etc. Students will present their Week 2, 3, 5, and 7 news to their small talk groups. Week 8 and 9s project will be presented to the whole class group.
