NGN Access Gateway CSN_LGW

Introduction

The Subscriber Access Unit (CSN) of the Alcatel 1000 MM E10 has been designed for a multiservice and multimedia environment. It Is based on a concentrating, multi-site, multifunction access node architecture that has been widely adopted by the telecommunication industry. The CSN efficiently extends the reach of a switch to rural or high-density networks and everywhere in between. Each CSN can connect up to 5120 users, and can be located anywhere in the network, either collocated with the softswitch or installed in proximity to remote groups of users. The Concentrator Units (CNE) associated with a CSN offer considerable flexibility since they too can be collocated with the CSN or installed to serve remote users in groups of 64, 256, 512, 1024.

CSN-LGW is based on the classical CSN (MM, SR or LR). A fully standard IP interface has been added. This gateway function is realized by a TCIP board which takes the place of TCID (TDM interface) in the Control Unit rack. This TCIP is composed of a mother board and a daughter board (Blade, based on 7515 gateway) which offers IP interface. At the result, CSN-LGW (CSN + MB + Blade) is an access gateway which is able to manage analog and ISDN subscribers and call processing with H248 and SIGTRAN IUA protocols under control of a Softswitch. In addition, it can provide enhanced ADSL services by associating the Remote Intelligent Service Access Manager (ISAM_R).

This redundant Ethernet link is carrying :

Signalling (MEGACO H248, SIGTRAN IUA), Management (TELNET/CLI and SNMP), VoIP flow. Broadband application 1 Giga Ethernet IP uplink for broadband traffic,

Note: This Geth IP uplink can also be use to carry both traffic (Narrowband, Broadband). In this case, an Ethernet link is connected between TCIP and the expansion module in the ISAM_R. The Giga Ethernet IP uplink is used for the overall transport. By this way, there is no need for an additional equipment.

2.3.5.2 Synchronisation

An interface for external clock source (Synchronisation) is available. The connection is done on the TAIP applique.

2.3.5.3 Operation and maintenance Interface

The Management of the CSN_LGW by O&M interface is done by : CLI, SNMP v3, Manageable objects , - CSN : Create, delete, list the CN, Terminal Units (TU) and internal links. The subscriber equipments are implicitly created (deleted) when the TU are created (deleted). - Termination : modify characteristics, - TCIP-MB : upgrade, backup and restore the softwares and datas for : CSN, UT, TCIP - GW function : look like the 7515 management.

2.3.6

Protocols The CSN-LGW supports a wide range of standard protocols enabling its control by any standard-based Softswitch and allowing the full richness of subscriber's events (off-hook, onhook, register button, digit collection, ...) to be sent by the CSN-LGW to the Softswitch. These protocols include : H.248 / MEGACO : This protocol has been designed both by ITU-T (H.248 v1) and IETF (Megaco RFC 3015 updated by RFC 3525) and makes use of SDP protocol (Session Description Protocol, IETF RFC 2327). CSN LGW supports the "text" encoding and carries H.248 protocol over UDP/IP. The following H.248 packages are supported by the CSN LGW :

SNMP/CLI and TFTP : These protocols are used for the management of the CSN LGW.

2.3.7

Services The CSN-LGW has been designed to offer the full richness of current PSTN/ISDN networks in a full-NGN world. Of course, the list of services could be shortened depending on the Softswitch used as controller of the CSN-LGW, but intrinsically, all the features currently supported in TDM world remain supported in the NGN world by the CSN-LGW. This includes (but not limited to) : ISDN BRA (2B+D) used in "Point to Point" or "Point to Multipoint" configuration. ISDN PRA (30B+D). All ISDN services, such as terminal Portability, User to User information, AOC, all types of notification, Keypad/stimulus and functional mode, ... Broadband services 7330 FTTN ISAM Network Architecture The Alcatel 7330 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM_R), in the tradition of the industry-leading Alcatel 7300 and 7301 ASAM, offers a future-safe, multi broadband service intelligent access node platform. Integrated management is provided by the Alcatel 5523 AWS management system which allows for an Operator to manage from a single management system all the ALCATEL broadband access nodes (7301, 7302, 7330) and all the broadband services. This ISAM_R Host Shelf has exactly the same functionality as the Alcatel 7302 ISAM (CO DSLAM), meaning the same high capacity 24 Gbps switching fabric and high capacity uplinks (up to 7 GE interfaces). The ISAM_R Host Shelf can either be connected directly in the aggregation network via a Central Office Ethernet switch, or subtended from a 7302 ISAM as CO DSLAM. In order to allow for remote deployment, the Alcatel 7330 Fiber to the Node platform has been designed as a compact housing that supports the same NT & LTs as the A7302 platform. All 7302 ISAM LTs will be supported on 7330 FTTN as well : EBLT-C (L3 LT over POTS), EBLT-A (L2 LT over POTS) EVLT-B for VDSL.

Figure 4 : ISAM _R 7330 module Characteristics can be summarised as follows : The shelf is vertically mounted in order to suit the CSNMM_SR (19 rack) or the ACSNMM. As it uses the same NT & LTs as the A7302 the features supported by the A7330 are identical as the A7302. In that sense, the A7330 is primarily to be seen as an equipment practice which is more suitable for remote deployment (ADSL, ADSL2+ and VDSL roll-out). By this way, it allows to shorten the subscribers line and to increase the bandwidth for broadband services. High capacity 24 Gb/s switching fabric and line termination architecture providing non-blocking service to all subscribers at ADSL2plus and VDSL line rates Up to 7 GE uplinks, 3 of which are embedded on the NT 2 NT slots providing for NT redundancy Up to twelve (12) Gigabit Ethernet expansion links for connecting expansion modules, out of which two are dual use i.e. they can be used as uplink too 4 LT slots providing for multi DSL line cards (48 ports) or VDSL line cards (24 ports) 1 NTIO slot which can house a card providing an additional 4 GE uplinks and 10 additional interfaces for future extension capabilities

4 slots for splitter cards. Front access - all cable connections and access to the shelf is from the front. Fan redundancy. Fan unit is hot pluggable and field replaceable. The shelf will provide a power shut off feature to shut down the entire hardware on condition of local power loss or FAN failure. 2.3.9 Software and datas upgrade 1. The software control module is in charge of the update of the softwares and datas for TCIP and CSN. The software upgrade is carried out by using the hitless redundancy : Established calls are kept.

NGN Access Gateway CSN_LGW

All the CSN software (TCIP software, UCN software, TU software, TU application data software) are stored in the TCIP card. There are two software versions stored in the TCIP flash memory : CURRENT VERSION : version which is running before upgrade, and if the upgrade operation fails, the system rolls back to this version to let the service not stop. NEW VERSION: version to be used for upgrade. Two steps are carried out for software upgrade : 1. Software upgrade of the TCIP. 2. CSN software upgrade including any upgrade of CSN or datas known by the CSN, i.e. : CSN archive, Terminal Unit software, Terminal Unit application datas They are handled in the same way that for the TDM CSN. 2.3.10 Clock synchronization The CSN-LGW may be not externally synchronised, running over its local free running clock with a specified accuracy ( 5 * 10-6) If externally synchronised, the way of external synchronisation is via an external clock (2.048 Mhz), fed by a reliable source distributed by the operators network. 2.3.11 Time recovery and synchronization The CSN LGW recovers the network time by using the NTP protocol.. NTP is a protocol designed to synchronize the Time of IP based equipment over a network. It provides the protocol mechanisms to synchronize time in principle to precisions in the order of nanoseconds while preserving a non-ambiguous date. The protocol includes provisions to specify the characteristics and to estimate the error of the local clock and the time server to which it may be synchronized. It also includes provisions for operation with a number of hierarchically distributed primary reference sources such as radio-synchronized clocks.

NGN Access Gateway CSN_LGW

2.3.12 Migration of installed CSN The CSN-LGW can be based on existing TDM CSN : CSNHD, CSNMM, CSNMM-SR, CSNMM-LR. The description of the CSN-LGW is the same as the legacy one, except for the CSNs network interface boards with LEX which are replaced by two TCIP, installed in the same location as the original TCIDs and operating on an active standby basis. In case of migration, the change is made by replacing each of the initial interface boards (TCID if the CSN is local to the LEX or TCTRS if it is remote) with a new TCIP. In that case, the provisioning of the office datas has to be made before the reset of the CSN. In case of migration, CSN Data can be recovered from the data of the A1000 E10 switch connecting previously this CSN.

CSN-LGW : Network management

5.1 Introduction
This chapter describes the management products related with Alcatel CSN LGW. The Alcatel 1300 CMC manages : the whole Alcatel 5020 softswitch network. It supervises and controls the NB services. It provides facilities for centralised operations, mainly provisioning, supervision and maintenance. the whole Alcatel Gateways : A7515, A7510,

the Access Gateway : CSN LGW . The Alcatel 5620 supervises and controls : the whole Alcatel 7750 Service Router, with the AWS 5523, all the services in the broadband access (A7300, A7302, A7330) and the broadband services in the CSN LGW. The Alcatel 5523 AWS is the Element Manager application of the whole Broadband services. It can simultaneously manage the broadband access : A7300 ASAM, the A7302 ISAM , the A7330 ISAM_R , the broadband equipments in CSN LGW The Management of the CSN LGW subscribers is independent of the subscribers management in the Softswitch, allowing the compatibility with any kind of softswitch .

5.2 O&M communication

The CSN-LGW is managed via the IP network. There is no need of additional link. The management protocols are : SNMP/UDP/IP or CLI (Command Line Interface) between the CSN and the NMS (Network Management Station) for the management itself. A dedicated MIB is created.

TFTP/UDP/IP for the file transfers for CSN downloading and backup/restore involving also a file server A dedicated Element Manager application LGW_EML is used for the operations of a large number of LGW. This EML can be implemented in the A1300 CMC or in a PC(Windows XP) platform. From the softswitch, the CSN-LGW is known as a standard (not proprietary) Access GW controllable via the operators IP network. Subscribers provisioning must be made in the softswitch using a termination Id compliant with the CSN-LGW ones. Same Ethernet links used for the O&M are the same than those used for the signalling (H248, SIGTRAN(IUA) and the VoIP flow . 5.2.1 LGW EML Features A CLI access is available for the provisioning inside the CSN_LGW. An alarm management is provided.

For CLI, a telnet connection (LGW_EML being a telnet client and CSN_LGW having an embedded telnet server) is used with the CSNLGW. It provides the management of the GW function (Look like A7515) and of the CSN access part. The SNMP interface is compliant with us SNMPv3.

The LGW_EML displays all the alarms which are generated by the CSN LGW (environmental alarms, power supply failures alarms, converter alarms, PBA alarms, lines alarms, self defined alarms).
It can manage several releases of CSN LGW. LGW EML is able to handle up to three releases of the CSN LGW. The Software management (downloading, ) of CSN LGW, by TFTP protocol and CLI, will be used by operator for loading of SW and Data updates. A backup/restore is available. It permits to save all the office data included in the CSN_LGW. Several levels for access operator rights are available, Some specific CSN_LGW management operations are carried out with usage of CLI commands : call parameters, line testing, CN creation, CN suppression ,

5.3 Alcatel LGW EML - PC

Alcatel LGW-EML provides a (PC based) cost-efficient solution for centralised network management, which is very suited for small access networks. The Alcatel LGW EML - PC can manage up to 100 CSN_LGW with only one operator position.

Equipment practice
Subracks and backplanes The CSN_LGW has a high degree of adaptability to increasingly stringent environmental standards (climatic, electromagnetic) and it has also a great capability of incorporation for the latest technological developments (memory capacity, new microprocessors, optical fibre links). It complies with the European standards and carries the EC marking.

6.1.1

6.1.1.1 Cards Circuit cards are of standard 8U dimensions (233 mm x 350 mm) with a 1.6 mm thickness and have from 2 to 8 layers. The cards are housed in standard subracks: Height 8 U Width 154 units (1U = 30.48 mm); (1 unit = 5.08 mm).

6.1.1.2 Subracks Subrack backplanes are multilayer printed circuits with the following characteristics : thickness 3.2 mm; Four, six, or height layers as standard - solderless connectors.

6.1.1.3 Racks The power distribution is duplicated so that converters are fed by two entirely separate circuits. The physical characteristics of the CSN allow it to be installed in conventional buildings with no special requirements regarding room height and floor loading. No special installation precautions are required for remote line units. In most cases, these line units can be installed in a non-air conditioned building. 1. CSNMM_LR : ALCATEL 2200 mm rack
