T Reflection:2/7/11 Theory-I revised on Storage Devices and backing storage media applications,Magnetic tapes are used for application which requires extremely large storage capacity where speed of access. . .Al week was just a revision for me as we have our exams in 2 weeks.I revised on input and output devices as that would be a weakness in ICT Spreadsheets. Application-A computer program or a suite of computer programs that performs a particular function for the user, such as a word-processor, e.g. Microsoft Word, or a range of functions, such as Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Office. See Computer Program, Operating System, Windows, Word-processor.The website http://www.dineshbakshi.com/ comes with a great deal of theory notes. Practical-In practical I learnt or revised on the calculations within excel.

Basic Arithmetic (Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide) SUM - Adding up a Range of Numbers AVERAGE - Finding the Average of a Range of Numbers MIN - Finding the Lowest Value in a Range of Numbers MAX - Finding the Highest Value in a Range of Numbers COUNT - Finding How Many Numbers are in a Range COUNTA - Counting the Number of Items in a Range INT - Converting Numbers to Integers ROUND - Rounding Up/Down Numbers VLOOKUP - Looking up What Particular Values Mean COUNTIF - Counting the Number of Specific Items in a Range SUMIF - Adding up Specific Values in a Range IF - Deciding What Will Go Into a Cell Multiple IFs - Deciding Between More Than Two Things

I.C.T REFLECTION= 24/6/11 Theory-In theory class this week, we went over the MID YEAR exam coming up in 3 weeks and Mr. Lankshear talked about the topics which are going to be in that exam: Theory=Section1-Types of computers,Section2-Input and Output devices, Section 3Storage devices and media as well as a few things from section4-Computer Networks. In the Practical Exam there is:Section1-Communication(email)Section2-Document Production(InDesign),Section3(excel-spreadsheets).The practical exam(2 hours long) is worth 60% and theory exam(1hour and 30 minutes long) is worth 40%.My I.C.T mark(in week7 test) was I guess aright I feel that I could do far better well the whole class could I was really disappointed in the classes average its wasn't as I hoped pretty low especially that our IGSCE exams are next year.My percentage was 66% -25 out of 38 only 17 marks out. When it comes to those mid-year exams I AM going to hit them with everything I've got and hopefully get in the 70-90% ranges, I know I can with the amount of study I'm doing and the faith placed in me! Section4-Computer Networks =In theory class Mr. Lankshear also talked about Computer Networks as some of this section will be in our exam. Some notes I took down were about the networking of the internet, networking between computers e.t.c...A Network is when you are using 2 or more computers, or other technology stuff and they are connected together so that they can exchange information or data to each other. When a computer has no network connection to another computer its called a Stand alone computer.Types of networking can be associated using stuff like L.A.N-Local Area Network-A certain network that can confined an area of its building.Usually a L.A.N is a private network belonging to n origination or business.W.L.A.N-Wireless Local Area Network=Everything is wireless, DisadvantagesDifficult to secure,50m range but cannot go through that many walls.W.A.N-Wide Are Network=A network that extends over wires, joined servers, Geographically spread, Long Distances, Optical Fiber, Satellite Radio links and Microwave radio link(Destiny School uses this),The internet is an example of W.A.N-words greatest and hugest! Practical=In practical class we went over spreadsheets in the text book. The page I was on was about the topic filtering and sorting using the key commands I was very interested in

how that worked because once I got the hang of what I was doing it all seemed very easy although I had to read it over twice. The formulas that were described in the textbook were so simple I moved pass so fast. The topic I also worked through was exactly what and how to sort data. Some steps/notes/tips I took down were; before you try to set any data, make sure that you select all he data for each item to be sorted, one common error in practical examination is to select and set on a single column.Usind Display Formulas-Many of the features described in this section can be applied to an individual cell.A range of cells, to one or more rows or columns, or the entire spreadsheet. On Friday I was up to the GRAPHS chapter;Producing a graph or chart.A pie chart=a pie chart is often very used to cpmare percentages, decimals. It elvulates the totally mark in a model used by the users.Bar charts=A graph with vertical marks used in the same way but diffrent design.Line graph=using line to identify the reameks on the totally answers. STUDY=In my study time at school and home I've been going through my notes and identifying main notes towards the study guide.I've also been on the http://www.igcseict.info/theory/4/types/index.html website and then http://www.teachict.com/gcse/hardware/storage/teacher/storage_theory.htm both really understandable. From the IGSCE website I learnt that A Local Area Network is a network confined to one building or site, a LAN is a private network belonging to an organization or business. it was basically what we just did in theory class but yeah its pretty good to go over it again so it can stayed glued to my brain. There were a lot of things that identify about computer networks such as Ring Network, Bus Network, Star Network, Hybrid Network. My Favorite connection would properly be the Hybrid network A network that has several star networks linked together is a hybrid network which was the example they used. I.C.T Reflection:17/6/11 Theory= In theory class we revised on the I.C.T-section3 before test. We learnt what back up an Information technology, a backup is or the process of backing up refers to making copies of data so that these additional copies may be used to restore the original after a data loss event= (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backup) I went onto the (http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/ict/databases/0datainforev1.shtml) website in my study time and I learnt that Data is processed by computers. Data items are a part of a structure, such as a sentence, in order to give them meaning. Information=Information is a collection of words, numbers, dates, images, sounds. Changing data into information a structure is needed in order for data to become information. In both of these cases the data collected will be read into a database for processing. With a structure in place (the database) the data becomes information. Spreadsheets are commonly used to turn data into information. A definition of knowledge=Knowledge is the ability to understand information and to then form judgements, opinions, make predictions and decisions based on that understanding. Data leads to information, and information leads to knowledge. Expert systems= Computers can be programmed with rules to use information to make simple decisions. This is knowledge that has been passed on from the programmer. Types of ICT system=the three main types of ICT system to be considered for GCSE are: Information systems=this type of ICT system is focused on managing data and information. Control systems=These ICT systems mainly control machines. They use input, process and output, but the output may be moving a robot arm to weld a car chassis rather than information. Communications systems=the output of these ICT systems is the successful transport of data from one place to another.

Practical= In practical I used the website http://spreadsheets.about.com/ to help me with more about understanding and the context of each question-Task they are asking. There was a lot of information about formatting a spreadsheet such as; Formatting is an important part of a complete spreadsheet and not something that is done just to make it look good. The IF-function adds flexibility to your spreadsheets by introducing decision making it does this by testing a specified condition in your spreadsheet to see if it is true or false. Some terms I received were: Spreadsheet-a computer application program that arranges data into columns and rows, usually used to work with numbers Row-a side by side horizontal layout of boxes. Column-an up and down vertical layout of boxes. Cell-the block created when a column and a row meet each other. Cell Address-the location of a cell on a spreadsheet, (identified by the column letter, followed by the row number, example: A1, B4)

Data Entry Bar-the bar at the top of the spreadsheet used to enter data into the cell that you have chosen. I also received some fancy tips from this website like; Excel Math=Basic math operations in Microsoft Excel. If you want to know how to add, subtract, multiply, or divide numbers in Excel. Excel Formulas =Formulas are a very important and a frequently used feature in Excel. Date Function=There are a number of date functions available in Excel. Depending on your needs, you can use a date function in Excel to return the current date, the current time, or the day of the week.

Practical=In Practical class we were still onto section3-data analysis. We took some notes from the text book.I was onto;the functions of counta, countif, count, indices.I placed down some diffentions from excel such as SUM=When you are calculation 2 number together to get the total amount.Adverage=The mean number.Difference=The subraction of 2 numbers to find that result.Indices=When there is a whole number algon with either a fraction or a decimal. With excel there are alot of formulars and functions you have to learn. For this section we have to be able to create a model(spreadsheet),multipluate that formulaes used in this model, create a graph for the data in which you have recieved,The presentation.Entering and changing formulars-I reackon i'll be able to do this when it comes to the section 3 exam. Theroy=In theory class we revise on the igsce website I learnt was Data can be stored either in the 'internal memory' or on a 'storage device'.Flash memory storage devices are typically small, lightweight, removable and rewritable. They consist of a small printed circuit board which is encased in plastic or metal casing. They usually have a removable cap which covers and protects the part of the stick which is inserted into a USB port. The amount of data and instructions that can be stored is measured in 'bytes. One byte contains 8 bits (short for Binary Digit). This is the smallest unit of data that can be stored. Each 'bit' is represented as a binary number, either 1 or 0.A single keyboard character such as the letter A or T takes one byte of storage. We normally refer to the capacity of a storage device in terms of Kilobytes (KB), Megabytes (MB), Gigabytes (GB) - or even Terabytes! We worte down same of the ADVANTAGES_DISADVANTAGES AND USES of these storage devices auch as:The website I used was:=www.teach-i.ct.gcse.
