Specialteamsareformationsusedwhenevertheballiskicked.Thereareoffensiveanddefensivespecial teams. KickOffFormationThekickoffformationisusedwhenevertheballiskickedtotheotherteam(at thebeginningofthehalvesorafterateamscores).Theteamlinesupbehindthekicker(approximately 10 yards from where the ball is teed up) and runs down the field once the ball is kicked to tackle the player on the opposing team who recovers the football. The important part of the kick off is to stay in yourlanes(ierunstraightdownthefieldsothatthepersonreturningthekickdoesnothaveopenfieldto runin).

Punt Formation The punt formation is used when the team was unable to move the ball 10 yards down the field in two downs. On the third down they elect to punt the ball down the field. The punt formation is very similar to a Two man backfield except that the quarterback is replaced by the kicker andhelinesupwellbehindthelineofscrimmage.Thecenterthendoesalongsnaptogettheballtothe kicker.Thekickerthenpuntstheballandtherestoftheteampursuestheballandtacklestheplayeron the opposing team who catches it.
