Introducing RSView Machine Edition

About RSView Machine Edition
RSView Machine Edition is software for developing and running human-machine interface (HMI) applications. RSView Machine Edition is designed for monitoring and controlling automated processes and machines. For information about using RSView Machine Edition to create and run applications, see the RSView Machine Edition Users Guide and online Help. For information about upgrading RSView Machine Edition from a previous version, see the Release Notes.

1 Placeholder

RSView Studio
RSView Studio is a Windows-based software program for creating machine-level monitoring and control applications in Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP. RSView Studio contains the tools you need for creating all aspects of an HMI application, including real-time animated graphic displays, trends, and alarm reporting.

RSView ME Station
RSView ME Station provides the runtime environment for the applications you design using RSView Studio. You can run machine-level applications on PanelView Plus terminals and on the VersaView CE terminals with the Windows CE.NET 4.1 operating system, and on computers that use the Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system.

Additional software
The RSView Machine Edition CD also includes four additional software products:
FactoryTalk Automation Platform installs software that is shared among the

components of RSView Enterprise. The FactoryTalk Automation Platform must be installed before RSView Studio or RSView ME Station can be installed.
RSLinx Enterprise is a communication server built around FactoryTalk technology

to assist in developing and running your RSView Machine Edition applications. It is an OPC 2.05 compliant server and will run on a variety of platforms ranging from PanelView Plus dedicated terminals to desktop computers.
RSLinx Classic is software that provides communications to a wide range of devices,

such as ControlLogix processors. RSLinx Classic is an OPC-compliant data server.

RSVIEW MACHINE EDITION INSTALLATION GUIDE

Adobe Reader 6.0 is software for reading and printing the online RSView Machine Edition Users Guide, volumes 1 and 2. This RSView Machine Edition Installation Guide is also available online. For more information, see Chapter 5.

FactoryTalk Administration Console

The FactoryTalk Automation Platform includes software called the FactoryTalk Administration Console. This software allows you to set up RSAssetSecurity. RSAssetSecurity is a method for setting up security for users and computers for multiple Rockwell Software products in one place. RSAssetSecurity is intended to improve the security of your automation system by limiting access to those with a legitimate need. RSAssetSecurity authenticates user identities and authorizes user requests to access a FactoryTalk-enabled system. These security services are fully integrated into the FactoryTalk Directory and are included as part of the FactoryTalk Automation Platform that installs with many products. You can also set up RSAssetSecurity in RSView Studio. For more information, see Chapter 13 in the RSView Machine Edition Users Guide, Volume 1. To open the FactoryTalk Administration Console 1. On the Windows Start menu, select Programs, Rockwell Software, and then click FactoryTalk Administration Console. For information about using the FactoryTalk Administration Console, see FactoryTalk Help.

The RSView Machine Edition tools RSView Studio tools

These tools are installed with RSView Studio:

Application Manager is software for renaming, copying, deleting, backing up, and

restoring applications.

DeskLock is software that prevents Windows 2000 and Windows XP users from exiting the RSView application at runtime. You cannot use DeskLock if you are running your application on a PanelView Plus or VersaView CE terminal. ME Firmware Upgrade Wizard is software for installing new firmware releases on

an ME terminal.

ME Transfer Utility is software for moving a runtime machine-level application (.mer file) from the development computer to PanelView Plus or VersaView CE terminals.

If you are planning to upgrade your operating system from an earlier version to Windows XP Professional, see tech note P88739858 for information about how to perform the upgrade. If you dont follow the recommended procedure, you will no longer be able to create or use RSView applications.

Installing
The steps below explain how to install the RSView Studio, RSView ME Station, FactoryTalk Automation Platform, and RSLinx software from the RSView Machine Edition CD to your computer.

Required user rights

The installation process creates program folders and modifies registry entries. In order to make these modifications, the user that is currently logged in must have administrative rights on the Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer on which RSView is installed (for example, the Windows 2000 Administrator account has these rights).

RSVIEW MACHINE EDITION INSTALLATION GUIDE

To start installation 1. Close all open Windows programs. 2. Place the RSView Machine Edition CD in your CD-ROM drive. The CD should start running automatically. If the CD does not start automatically, run D:\Setup.exe, where D is the drive containing the CD. When you open the CD, you see the following three headings:

To successfully upgrade from RSView Enterprise 3.2 to 4.0, it is essential that you follow these steps in the order they are listed.

The Install RSView Machine Edition menu has the following series of installation steps: 1. Uninstall RSView Machine Edition If you are upgrading from an earlier version of RSView Studio, you must uninstall earlier versions of RSView Machine Edition and certain other Rockwell products before upgrading. RSView uninstalls some products for you when you select Uninstall RSView Machine Edition. RSView also displays a list of products that you must uninstall manually, using Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. You must uninstall these products first, before uninstalling RSView Machine Edition. For more information about upgrading RSView Machine Edition from a previous version, see the Release Notes. To uninstall earlier RSView Enterprise products 1. Click Uninstall RSView Machine Edition. The Uninstall RSView Enterprise dialog box opens, displaying two lists of products found on the computer that must be uninstalled before proceeding with the current installation. 2. Uninstall the products in the lower list, using the Windows Control Panel. 3. When you have finished uninstalling all the programs in the lower list, uninstall the products in the upper list by clicking OK. 4. If FactoryTalk Automation Platform is one of the programs uninstalled, you might be asked to restart your computer for changes to take effect. Click Yes to restart your computer before proceeding with the installation of new products. 2. Install FactoryTalk Automation Platform This step involves installing FactoryTalk Automation Platform and setting up FactoryTalk Directory. If your operating system is Windows XP with Service Pack 2, the Windows Firewall Configuration Utility is also installed.

Activating
RSView Machine Edition uses files that reside on the Activation disk to activate its Windows-based software packages. Without activation, RSView Studio runs in demo

mode, allowing two hours of use and no more than five displays (including the three default displays). On Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems, RSView ME Station runs in demo mode unless you activate the software. Activation is not required for PanelView Plus and VersaView CE terminals. During installation, the software prompts you to insert the Activation disk and move the activation key from the disk to the drive where you have installed RSView Studio and RSView ME Station.

About the Activation disk

The Activation disk (also referred to as a Master disk) activates RSView Machine Edition products. The Activation disk contains:

one or more activation files. The activation file is the software key that activates your RSView Machine Edition product. Depending on what you purchase, your Activation disk has one or more activation files. For example, if your company purchases four RSView Studio installations, you require four activation keys. Multiple copies of the same software require activation keys with matching serial numbers. All of the activation keys can be on the same Activation disk.

a program called EvMoveW.exe that moves activation keys to and from computers. a program called ResetW.exe that reactivates a damaged activation key.

You can move activation keys to and from the Activation disk. The programs EvMoveW.exe and ResetW.exe always stay on the Activation disk. For more information about using activation keys, see the Activation Help. To open the Activation Help 1. On the Windows Start menu, select Programs, Rockwell Software, Utilities, and then click Activation Help. Activation keys RSView Studio uses the activation key RSVME.STUDIO. For RSView ME Station running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the particular keys on your Activation disk depend on the licensing you purchase, and determine how many displays your applications can contain:

RSVME.RUN comes with a license for 75 displays.
