WHAT COMES AFTER

Written by Otmanon

INT. JASONS APARTMENT - NIGHT The room is a large rectangular studio divided into different sections: kitchen, dining room, living room, and finally, bedroom. JASON MCCARTHUR, 20, university student, is sitting arms wrapped around knees in a ball on his large dark sofa in the division that is his living room. He is attentively watching a tv-show. Jason laughs out loud at the TV. He looks around him, expecting to see somebody laughing as well. A few turns of the head, and he once again faces the TV, saddened.

FLASHBACK: EXT. HEATHVIEW HIGHSCHOOL - DAY A highschool. A banner is festooned on top of the front doors. It reads: Heathview High School. Jason walks into the school. FLASHBACK: INT. BASKETBALL COURT - DAY A teenage Jason steals the ball from an opponent. He runs accross the court and finished with a one-handed dunk. The crowd cheers. FLASHBACK: EXT. FOOTBALL FIELD - DAY Quarterback throws a pass down the field. An improbable diving catch by Jason in the endzone. The crowd roars. FLASHBACK: INT. BASEMENT - DAY A white billiard ball is catapulted by a cue. The ball speeds to the clustered triangle and makes contact with a BANG. We are in a basement with a few beer drinking buds. Playing video games and pool. Among them, Jason. JASON (V.O.) I had a sister, two younger twin brothers...

FLASHBACK: INT. WHITE ROOM - DAY A YOUNG GIRL, Jasons sister, flashes a smile. Two TWIN BROTHERS are LAUGHING in the background, one punching the other. FLASHBACK: INT. BEDROOM - DAY A face of exquisite beauty and elegance. No makeup, all natural. It is accentuated by the white background the sheets provide. A hand reaches out and cups her cheek. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - DAWN We are brutally brought back to the sad, lonely image of Jason sitting on his sofa. He did not change position From the window, the sky changes color indicating daybreak. JASON (V.O.) Ill be fine though. BEGIN CREDITS INT. JASONS APARTMENT - MORNING It is now light outside and Jason is still curled up in a ball. An alarm starts BEEPING. He slowly gets up, walks to the kitchen and fixes himself some cereal. Finally, the RUSTLING of the bag of cereal interrupts the painful silence. Jason sits down and slowly munches on his cereal. EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - MORNING Our lone wolf walks out of the entrance, a laptop bag hanging from his shoulder. He turns around and sees a HOMELESS MAN still sleeping at the edge of a sidewalk. He tosses him a dollar and walks on. The homeless man wakes up briefly and flicks the dollar back at him. He immediately returns to his serene slumber.

3.

EXT. CAFETERIA - DAY Jason is sitting alone, typing slowly and unenthusiastically. A FRIEND surprises him. His face lights up immediately. FRIEND Morning, man. JASON Hey. How was your night. FRIEND Not so great. You and that blonde chick left... JASON Hm? um, yes, right. FRIEND (With a sly smile) Did ya... take her downtown? Jason looks confused. His friend persists. FRIEND (CONTD) You know... show her the works? Did you season her taco with your sausageJASON -Yeah... I guess I did. Jason gives him a fake smile. FRIEND Nice! Good going man! At least a 9! (Slight pause) Right on! well, see ya... you coming to Christians party thursday? JASON Uh... yeah! I think so! FRIEND Cool... I got to get to class. JASON Bye. The friend leaves. Jason sits there looking at his screen. He gets a notification indicating an e-mail. COMPUTER SCREEN:

4.

He opens it. Its last weeks assignment. He scrolls down and finds his name. Next to it, the number 92. He opens another e-mail. Another assignment. 94. A third e-mail. 97. He goes on facebook. He checks any new updates. We can see a picture of his girlfriend from earlier. Shes leaning over a guy, kissing him. A picture of the basement in which the pool party was going on before. Filled with people. He specifically looks up ELLE MCCARTHUR. She appears a few years older than before. On her wall, a selfie of her and her friends. Then another with her and both of their twin brothers. He opens another e-mail. Another assignment. 95. A message is received from a girl called HOLLY WINSTEN. HOLLY WINSTEN Hey did you get your mark back? JASON Yeah... 95. After a few seconds of seeing Holly is writing... Holly answers. HOLLY WINSTEN Youre so smart! JASON Thanks... HOLLY WINSTEN See you at Andrews? JASON Yeah! Bye. He closes his laptop, packs it, gets up and walks out of the cafeteria. EXT. CAMPUS - DAY Jason walks through the campus. He makes his way to the building his apartment is in.

5.

The homeless man from before is still there, eying him intently. Jason walks in. In fifteen minutes, he walks out holding an extra pair of clothes. He leaves, nodding his head at the homeless man. EXT. DOWNTOWN - DAY Jason makes his way through human infested streets. Everybody else is hanging out with at least one other person. A Costco appears at the corner of a street. He walks in. INT. COSTCO - DAY He heads straight to a change room to change. He emerges again in his red and white uniform. Proceeds to the cash registers. ANDREW, 23, another Costco employee greets him. ANDREW Hey dude. JASON Andrew. Hows it going. ANDREW Not as great as you! Louis told me you totally banged that 9 yesterday! JASON Haha, yeah... well, yes. I did. ANDREW Jesus man, I didnt think you had it in you. JASON Well... here I am. ANDREW Well anyways, see you tonight right? Hook up with Holly maybe?

6.

JASON Sure! Andrew leaves. A husband and wife are arguing with each other. Andrew interrupts them. ANDREW Hey, hey, hey! No matter what this is about, its okay! Just remember, you can buy anything at Costco! The two stare at Andrew, shocked. He goes back to a cash register, opens it and yells: ANDREW (CONTD) Next! Jason resumes the march to his own cash register and takes over a guys shift. EXT. COSTCO - NOON Jason walks out of the costco, hot dog and uniform in hand. He rushes to his apartment. EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - DAY Rolan walks out of his building grasping a different ensemble of clothes. Homeless man`s still staring. He seems to be holding something under his jacket. Jason doesn`t acknowledge it. INT. GYMNASIUM - DAY Ten players are rushing up and down the court, playing basketball. One is a girl, its Holly from the earlier Facebook conversation. The rest are guys of various physical traits and ages. One of them is Jason. He`s dribbling up the court. Expertly performs an ankle breaker crossover. The man guarding him falls in embarrassment.

7.

Jason rushes to the net, throws the ball at the backboard and dunks that ball like an Oreo cookie in milk. His teammates ooh and ahh. TEAMMATE 1 Jason you beast. A SECOND TEAMMATE runs to him and picks him up, throwing him over his shoulder. TEAMMATE 2 Jason the NBA star right here! Once he puts him down, Holly gives him a slap on the ass and walks away quickly. HOLLY WINSTEN You didnt tell me you were coming today! JASON I... forgot. Sorry! HOLLY WINSTEN Well, Im leaving. See you at Andrews tonight, right? JASON Yah. EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - NIGHT Jason walks out of his apartment building. Says hi to the homeless man still sitting there. Makes his way to Andrews. EXT. ANDREWS - NIGHT A somewhat isolated house. All the lights are on, music raging out of them. Jason walks in. INT. ANDREWS - NIGHT Everybody greets him with a cheer.

8.

ANDREW Hey! You made it! Everybody, Jasons in the house! A second cheer. ANDREW (CONTD) I heard you made an alley-oop today, in a game! Good on ya. LOUIS To yourself? Awfully selfish of him dont you think? Andrew gives him a look. LOUIS (CONTD) Kidding! Just kidding! ANDREW Whatever. So Jason, you got anything to do tomorrow? JASON Well... the usual. ANDREW Good so you can stay up with us. We have gi-normous plans for tonight man, itll be the shit. TEAMMATE 2 Hey, hey, hey. My boy, Jason. JASON Hi. TEAMMATE 2 (Staring at Holly across the room) See that Jason? Shes all yours. Shes been checking you out everytime she gets the chance! JASON Thanks. TEAMMATE 2 Well what are you still doin here? Get on it. Get on that! JASON Later, maybe.

9.

The party goes on, songs change from upbeat to pure dubstep and then move on to classic rock. Jason wanders through the party, alone despite everybody stopping him to attempt starting a conversation. Jason ends up blowing all of them off. Andrew pulls him aside and hands him a bag. The contents are wrapped in paper towels. ANDREW Use it wisely. You deserve it. No charge. JASON ...Thanks. Andrew walks away. Jason walks to a corner, leans on a table, and rolls a joint. He stays alone in the corner for some time, puffing away. Holly Winsten breaks away from her group of friends and slowly makes her way to Jasons side. HOLLY WINSTEN Hey, you! JASON Hey. HOLLY WINSTEN Hows it going? JASON Alright... An awkward silence. HOLLY WINSTEN So...Wazzaaap? JASON Nuthing. You? HOLLY WINSTEN Well I was just having fun! Something I dont see you doing much. JASON (laughs) Thats funny.

10.

HOLLY WINSTEN (Bites her lip, sensually) Wanna share some of that? JASON Oh... Yeah! Sure. He hands her the bag. JASON (CONTD) ... do you know how to... HOLLY WINSTEN Oh no, Im fine! She rolls herself a joint. Both are smoking in the corner now. HOLLY WINSTEN (CONTD) So... wanna go to your appartment? Rock street, right? JASON Um... yeah, sure. Place looks dead anyway. Partys still rocking with energy. The two make their way outside. EXT. ANDREWS - NIGHT HOLLY WINSTEN So, Jason, where you from? JASON Well, you wouldnt know it. Its a small city in the north of Canada. HOLLY WINSTEN Oh yeah... youre probably right, I know - SHIT ALL- bout Canada... JASON Most people do, yeah. HOLLY WINSTEN So you miss it there? JASON The place? Not really. The people? Oh god yes.

11.

HOLLY WINSTEN Oh yeah? You left some people back there. JASON ...yes... A few friends, my younger twin brothers, younger sister... my girlfriend, now ex, but still. HOLLY WINSTEN Makes you wonder, right? JASON What? HOLLY WINSTEN What would have happened if you stayed? JASON Oh, yeah. HOLLY WINSTEN So whyd you come over here in the first place? JASON Got a scholarship! Lots of money, for my basketball and my grades. Got myself a kickass apartment with no A.C. Cold nights are the worst. HOLLY WINSTEN You hate it here. JASON Its not so bad. Its... just lonely. HOLLY WINSTEN Well Im here! JASON Yeah... well. An awkward silence as they walk on. Back call over then mess JASON (CONTD) home, at night Id wake up and my friend Tristan. Hed come and wed make sandwiches and go outside and find people to around with.

12.

HOLLY WINSTEN Oh yeah! As they walk on, Jason becomes focused on reciting his nostalgic stories to this girl whose expression says shes tired of it. JASON My twin brothers would sometimes speak at the same time. Most of what they say is a star wars reference but still... HOLLY WINSTEN Hmm. JASON But I do miss my sister alot too. Shes four years younger than me. Wants to be an actress. She loves Marilyn Munroe. Wed go on a Marilyn Munroe movie marathon every year on christmas. I didnt like em so much, but... whatchu gonna do? HOLLY WINSTEN I dunno... She laughs awkwardly. They make it to Rock Street. EXT. ROCK STREET - NIGHT JASON Just behind this building here... They see the homeless man cuddled up in a ball. They try to be quiet. They arrive in front of his building. He opens the door. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - NIGHT Right when they enter in silence, Holly throws herself at him. Wraps her arms around him and starts sucking his face. JASON Whoa... HOLLY WINSTEN You said you broke up with your girlfriend right?

13.

JASON Yup, all good. HOLLY WINSTEN Id hate to be a home-wrecker. JASON Not much of a home to wreck. She resumes her courting. They start taking their clothes off. Shit gets intense. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - 30 MINUTES LATER Both are laying in bed, having finished sex. Jason seems to be dosing off. Holly is still wide awake, though. After a few seconds she gets up and starts puting on her clothes JASON Youre leaving. A statement. Hed known thisd happen for hours. HOLLY WINSTEN Yeah... talk to you later okay? ...Lets do this again sometime. It was fun. JASON Yeah, sure. Holly leaves. Once again Jason is left alone in his apartment. He puts on some clothes and walks to the sofa. Turns on the TV. A Marilyn Munroe movie. He bends into a ball, arms wrapped around knees like before. His mouth is quivering of cold. He seperates his hands from his legs and hugs himself for warmth. He changes the channel. Its Star Wars. JASON (CONTD) Oh. Wow. Changes again. His two younger twin brothers fighting. Channel change. His sister, flashing a smile.

14.

JASON (CONTD) What the... He keeps zipping through the channels: His friends in a basemenent playing pool. His ex-girlfriend under the covers. His ex-girlfriend with some other guy. Him making a diving catch for a football. Him dunking the basketball. He turns off the T.V. and walks around his apartment, rubbing his hands on his arms. After circling his studio a few times, he ends up in the kitchen and fixes himself some cereal. Bowl in hand, he resumes circling. This time, he ends up in front of his giant window by his bed. Slowly eating the cereal, he stares down. The homeless man is sitting/sleeping on the sidewalk opposite to the apartment. He rubs himself repeatedly as well. After a few seconds of staring, Jason makes his way outside. EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - NIGHT Jason exits the building, still holding his cereal. He immediately faces the homeless man. JASON You. Come on, up. The man doesnt answer and continues his cycle of dozing off and shuddering. JASON (CONTD) Lets go. Its cold out here. HOMELESS MAN Go away. Jason gets close. He sees that the man is bleeding from his shoulder and his left eye area.

15.

JASON ...what happened... come upstairs, I can get you fixed up. The man still refuses, but Jason insists. JASON (CONTD) Up. Lets go. Come on. Finally, the man complies. He slowly stands up. We see that he is quite tall as well. At least 6 feet and a quarter. He had a short dirty beard, but the rest of his features were smudged out and indistinguishably because of numerous dirt smudges around his face. He staggers over to Jason, who leads the way. INT. APARTMENT BUILDING, HALLWAY - NIGHT JASON Im Jason, by the way. The man doesnt reply at first, but after a few seconds: MAN Josh... Roberts JASON Robert? JOSH No. Josh. Josh Roberts. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - NIGHT JASON Okay, so this is where I live. Josh remains silent. JASON (CONTD) So, you can sleep on the bed, Ill sleep on the couch... JOSH (a few moments later) You sure? JASON Yeah. I like the couch better anyway.

16.

Josh heads for the bed. Before he manages to sit down: JASON (CONTD) You want some cereal? Josh shakes his head and slips under the covers. JASON (CONTD) Good night. JOSH Hey, uh... you happen to notice a group of guys tonight... carrying a vinyl record, did you? JASON No, cant say I have. Sorry, why? JOSH No reason. JASON Well, good night. Jason turns off the lights and heads for the couch. He sleeps without a blanket, but he sleeps nonetheless. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - DAY Jason wakes up. He checks Joshs bed. Hes not there. He looks at the bathroom. A river of steam is escaping skyward through the narrow sliver at the bottom of the door. After adjusting his ears, Jason hears the sound of RUNNING WATER. Reassured, he makes his way to the kitchen and fixes himself some cereal. Josh emerges from the bathroom door. JASON Morning. JOSH ...Just took a shower. JASON I see... cool! Got all the blood off?

17.

JOSH Yeah. Now that hes clean and shaven, we can see Josh is a man in his mid fourties with dark brown hair, thick eyebrows and a moustache. He looks tough, his eyes and brows twisted into a frown most of the time. JASON So today, Ive got to get some work done. I usually go to the Campus cafeteria and work on my assignments. No answer. Josh turns around and pulls out a shirt from under the bed. He has several scars across his back, the freshest one being on his shoulder. JASON (CONTD) ...what... happenned last night? Why were you bleeding. No answer. JASON (CONTD) After that, I go to work at the CostcoJOSH You work at Costco? JASON ...yes? No answer. JASON (CONTD) And then Ill go to the gym. Ill get back around five. Still not a peep from Josh. JASON (CONTD) I hope youll still be here when I come back? No answer.

18.

JASON (CONTD) Well heres a hundred bucks. Get yourself some clothes and some food. He deposits five twenty dollar bills on the kitchen counter. Jason gets up and starts for the door. JASON (CONTD) Ill be on my way now... bye. The door closes behind him. FADE TO BLACK. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - NIGHT The door opens. Jason enters. The room is dimly lit. Josh is sitting at the kitchen counter, two guns laying on the counter in front of him. JASON -Hi. JOSH Hey there. You had a nice day? JASON It was... okay... JOSH Just okay? Thats too bad. JASON Yeah. JOSH Well dont just stand there, come on in. Its your house. JASON Oh okay, yeah. JOSH I just wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier. Was rude, ungreatful. You invited me in and didnt even get a thank you in return. JASON Oh, no. Its no problem really.

19.

JOSH Still. You did me a favour. It was cold that night too. JASON Yeah... JOSH Whyd you do it. JASON I dunno. JOSH You telling me you invite random hobos to your home every day? JASON No... I guess I was lonely. JOSH Well whatever it was. Thank you. JASON No problem. JOSH Oh, yes it is. JASON What? JOSH A problem. JASON (Glances at the two guns) ...why? JOSH You dont know who I am, do you? JASON Josh Roberts? JOSH Jacob Robinson. JASON Jacob? JACOB Derek.

20.

JASON Who are you? JOSH I dont know. JASON What should I call you? JOSH Call me Guy. JASON Guy? GUY As in, that cool guy. JASON I see. Sure. Guy. An short silence. JASON (CONTD) You want cereal, guy? GUY Sure. Jason fills up a bowl and grabs some milk. GUY (CONTD) What do you do all day? JASON I dunno. Hang out. GUY Friends? JASON Yeah. GUY Some of em girls? JASON Yep. GUY And you play basketball. JASON Mhm.

21.

GUY Any good? JASON Well I got a scholarship for it, yeah. GUY Scholarship! Wow. What do you study. JASON Nothing. GUY Nothing? JASON Well, yeah. But nothing interesting. GUY You got a crew? JASON A crew? GUY A group of people you hang out with, usually. JASON Yeah, I suppose. GUY How often do you guys see each other. JASON Every day. GUY Every day! Good. JASON Why all the questions? GUY Figuring you out. JASON Not much to figure out.

22.

GUY Theres alot to figure out. JASON Like what. GUY Whyd you invite me in? JASON I was lonely. GUY Dont sound so lonely to me. You look like the hot jock. You got a gang, great at basketball. Great apartment too. Sounds to me like youre living the life. JASON Well Im not. GUY Why? JASON I dont know. Who the hell are you? GUY (With a smile) Dont you remember? Im a guy. Im the guy. Short silence. Guy takes his first spoonful of cereal. He grimaces. GUY (CONTD) Soggy. JASON Sorry. GUY My fault. JASON I know. A slight pause while Jason puts away the cereal. GUY You from Canada?

23.

JASON Yeah. GUY Huh. JASON Why do you have two guns? GUY Oh, oh-ho. I can see how this might look shocking. JASON Does it have anything to do with why you were bleeding last night? A washing machine BEEPS in the distance, indicating the end of a cycle. Jason walks to a small cupboard on the side of a wall. He opens it, revealing a washing machine fitting tightly into the narrow closet. He takes out a wet costco uniform, and hangs them on the closet door to dry. GUY Costco. JASON What? GUY Your job. You work at Costco. JASON I do. GUY Met my wife there. JASON The one downtown? GUY Yep. JASON When? GUY About five years ago.

24.

JASON What was her name? GUY (Relishing at the pronunciation) Julianne. A moment of silence, GUY (CONTD) (chuckling with himself) I was such an-an asshole. Kept cheating on her, over and over. So many women out there Jason. I dont know why she put up with me for so long. So many women out there who exist just to... mess up stuff. Jason sits down on his couch, looking at Guy from across the room. GUY (CONTD) You ever had a girlfriend? JASON Yeah. GUY Break up? JASON Yeah. GUY Julie, Id come home at night some days, and shed know what Id been doing. All the girls, all the drinks, all the... He catches himself before revealing too much. GUY (CONTD) And the think about her is; she tried to... adjust for me, try to change. Just for me. He suddenly stops talking. JASON What happened?

25.

GUY She came to her senses and left me. Yup. Four months ago. Its what happens when you dont meet em halfway. JASON Im sorry. GUY Not your fault, Jason. Only mine. JASON Why are you out in the streets? GUY Didnt feel like doing anything else. Quiet. GUY (CONTD) Yup, our first dat was at Costco too. JASON The cafeteria? GUY (Smiling, now) Nope. The free food samples. JASON Very romantic. GUY Wed walk around the store, hunting em. The best was when they gave out... uh, whatcha-ma-call it... Butter chicken. JASON Oh yeah. GUY Yeah, wed love those. Once wed get our first sample wed go to the clothe section... put some new clothes on and get some more. Employess had no idea. JASON (Joking) Ah, we know about people like you. (MORE)

26. JASON (CONT'D) Wont happen again, I guarantee that.

Silence. GUY (Mumblimg) Yup, wont happen again. FADE OUT. EXT. RANDOM STREET - DAY Jason is walking, earbuds jammed in his ears, blasting music. He strolls along casually. In front of him, a girl is walking too, talking on the phone. Both walk on, Jason behind the girl. She briefly turns around and notices him. They keep walking, and she notices hes still behind her. Jason remains indifferent though. Soon, the girl starts getting creeped out, so she suddenly spins around and walks the other way, checking if hed follow. He doesnt and everything is fine. She briefly whispers on the phone: GIRL Yeah, sorry...this creep who was following me... INT. BUS - LATER THAT DAY Jason is sitting peacefully at the back of the bus. After a few seconds, he notices the same girl from before. Shes keeps staring at him, wondering if he was following her. Finally, the bus comes to a stop. Jason gets up to leave, and so does the girl. They stand on the sidewalk, both waiting for oncoming traffic to pass by so they could cross the street. As soon as an opening appears, the girl starts sprinting away from Jason.

27.

INT. JASONS APARTMENT - DAY Jason enters. Guy is once again sitting in front of the counter. GUY How was today? JASON Same... only, I think I creeped out this one girl. GUY We all do, Jason. JASON Yeah. Jason sits down on his couch. To his side, he notices bubble wrap. He picks it up and starts popping them. JASON (CONTD) I used to do this all the time with Ellie. GUY Ellie? JASON Yeah, my sister. At night, when we couldnt sleep, wed just sit on the couch and pop some bubbles... you have any family Guy? GUY Not anymore. They all left me. Or died. JASON Sorry to hear that. GUY Yeah... Silence. GUY (CONTD) Im gonna die, Jason. JASON What? GUY Im gonna die.

28.

JASON When? GUY (Laughs) When? You excited? JASON No, I mean... how do you know? GUY I fucked over a ton of people, Jason. JASON What people? GUY Bad people, good people. Does it matter? Everybodys the same when it comes to betraying them. JASON So... these guys will kill you? They want to kill you? GUY Theyll just keep hiring guys until one of em finally kills me. And it will happen. JASON ... who are you? GUY Im a dead man walking. JASON Why are you telling me this? GUY Theres one right now, about to come in. Immediately, the front door opens. A man enters, his weapon drawn. Upon seeing Guy, the man becomes furious. He SHOOTS, but Guy and Jason jump out of way and take cover behind the sofa. JASON What the fuck? Why didnt you tell me this before?

29.

GUY I didnt want to scare you... JASON Well mission accomplished. The man approaches the couch. Guy slides away, aiming his gun at the intruder. He fires. Chest shot, right in the heart. GUY Sorry, Frank. FRANK Screw... you. Frank collapses. JASON You know him! GUY I know a lot of people. JASON Okay, tell me, clearly please. Who are you and what do you do. GUY I do a lot of stuff. JASON Fuck! Like what? GUY Politics. JASON Politics? GUY Drugs... JASON What? GUY Guns... a lot of stuff. JASON ...Explain... what just happened.. GUY Once Julie left me, I broke. I just took off. (MORE)

30. GUY (CONT'D) Left all of these guys behind. They counted on me for everything but I just up and left. I had one thin in mind...

JASON What? What was it? GUY I know I screwed up. Okay! Fucking big time. I know that. JASON Yeah! Looks like you did! GUY But... I needed to give Julie something, a last present kinda. You know, show her that I do care. JASON What? GUY I know she would never take me back, but just one last thing to remember me by. JASON What? GUY I got her a vinyl record. When we first met. My favourite album. JASON What? GUY I wanted to give her something nice. JASON Well, did you give it to her? GUY No. JASON Why the hell not? GUY I was worried she might not like it.

31.

JASON Are you kidding me... GUY Well... I ended up keeping it from her for the rest of our relationship. JASON The record? GUY Yeah. JASON So whats the problem? GUY Those dickless pieces of shit stole it from me. JASON The hitmen? GUY No. A gang, I used to collaborate with, manage theyre money. The other night, they recognized me, gave me a good beating and took everything I had on me. JASON What are you gonna do. Guy stares at Jason for a while. Frank still lying on the floor, deceased. GUY Wanna help me steal it back? JASON No. GUY Jason, I need this. I cant do it alone. JASON Fuck you. You cant ask me this. Decent people dont ask this. GUY Jason... you have no idea how important this is for me. (MORE)

32. GUY (CONT'D) Before I die. Before one of these guys end my life, I need to give her the record.

Jason stares around the room. He sees a picture of his family and his friends back home. JASON ... I dont know what Im doing. GUY Yeah? JASON Okay. Okay, Ill help you. Asshole. GUY Thanks. You know the saying? JASON You help an asshole, all youll get is shit in return. GUY Sorry. JASON Lets get to it. Whats our plan? GUY Well, I have no clue where the guys that took my report hang out, so were gonna have to camp out here until we see em again. Then, well follow them and checkout their hideout. Sound good? JASON Sure, whatever you say. They both sit down on the couch, having nothing to do. GUY You play basketball, right? JASON Yeah. GUY Wanna play. Gyms still open right? JASON Yeah sure.

33.

They both get up and reach for their coats. JASON (CONTD) What about this guy. GUY Ah, we can leave im there for a few hours. JASON If you say so. INT. GYMNASIUM - EVENING Guy and Jason are alone in the gym, lazily shooting. Guy isnt half bad. JASON I dont only play basketball. In high school, I was pretty good at football too. GUY You probably had the girls fighting over you. JASON (Chuckles) At one point, yeaha. GUY Just pick one and grab er. Its what I used to do. JASON You had girls fighting over you? GUY You can bet your right hand they were. JASON Nice. GUY What happened to your girl? JASON My girl? As in girlfriend? GUY Yeah...

34.

JASON Well, were so far away. We tried to make it work the first year... just grew apart. GUY Where you from again? JASON Canada. GUY Thats right! EXT. DARK STREETS - NIGHT Jason and Guy are walking home, having finished playing basketball. Both are wearing sunglasses, for no apparent reason. GUY So how long you been all by your lonesome? JASON Well, three years now. GUY Since you came here? JASON Yeah. GUY Who do you miss the most? JASON ...my sister... GUY You were close. JASON The closest. GUY How old is she? JASON Fourteen, fifteen now, I think.

35.

GUY Cute. JASON Yeah, she just got a boyfriend. GUY Ooh. You know him? JASON No. Suddenly, Guy stops in his tracks. GUY There they are, there are those assholes. He points at a group of people walking down another street. Both start following them at a reasonable distance. They look like the perfect pair of sick pedophile outlaws. Jason suddenly notices a girl walking in front of them. Its the girl from the other day. She stares back at them, obviously recognizing Jason, terrified. JASON Dammit. GUY What? JASON The girl. She speedwalks away as quickly as possible. GIRL (Shouting back at them) Stop following me fucking creeps! The gang Jason and Guy are actually following turn around. Guy and Jason jump into an intersecting street. They wait a few seconds, then turn back around and continue hunting the record stealing rogues. They keep walking. Out of the darkness, two figures stride out and strike both Jason and Guy in the face.

36.

They keep hitting, punching, kicking. Jason manages to slip out. The two now focus on getting Guy. Jason comes back to his senses. He sees Guy struggling between those two and he joins again, except this time, hes fully aware of the attackers presence. Grabs one guys shoulder, turns him around and punches him in the face. Jason holds him up against the wall and strikes him in the nose. The man falls, unconscious. By then, Guy manages to hold back his aggressor. GUY Who sent you? MAN A friend. GUY I dont have any friends. JASON Except for me. GUY Except for him. He finds a rock nearby and raises it, planning on smashing it on the mans face. He brings it down. Jason grabs his arm. JASON Dont. Guy lets the rock go. Instead, he punches the man twice in the face, knocking him unconscious. JASON (CONTD) Shit! That was rough. GUY I know. JASON You okay? GUY Yeah.

37.

JASON You think they are? GUY Does it matter? They were gonna kill us... JASON ...were they? They didnt even bring weapons... not even knives. GUY These guys like to punch... they got what was coming to em, whatever it was. JASON We lost em. GUY Figured. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - NIGHT Both sit down on the couch at the same time. GUY Fuck... I need that record, Jason. I need that vinyl. JASON We need a plan, for next time... Both sit there, quietly. Jason starts popping bubbles from the bubble wrap. GUY Turn on the TV. Jason grabs the remote and turns it on. A random corny TV commercial. GUY (CONTD) I always wanted to buy one of those... A few seconds. GUY (CONTD) What am I saying. Julie always wanted to buy one of those.

38.

JASON ...why? GUY Sometimes people just want things. JASON I know. GUY No you dont. JASON Yes, I do. GUY You dont know shit. JASON What are we even arguing about, Guy? GUY I want cereal. JASON Ill get you some. While Jason gets up, Guy changes the channel to a news network. GUY I know him. I know them... JASON What? GUY I know who it is. JASON Are you kidding? How?

JASON We can do that together! Wait forGUY No. Ill do it. JASON Fine. Ill go get your hot sauce. GUY Thank you, darlin. Jason splits. Shoving a five dollar bill in his pocket. JASON Do you have any hot sauce? CLERK Hot sauce? JASON Yes, hot. (He demonstrates by breathing in and out real hard) Do you have some?

42.

CLERK OH, hot sauce. Sure, sure. He points to a bottle of ketchup, signaling Jason to bring it to him. He does, the clerk puts it in a microwave behind him. and microwaves it for 30 seconds. Longest thirty seconds of life. Microwave BEEPS, clerk takes out the ketchup. CLERK (CONTD) Hot sauce, three fiddy. JASON How much? CLERK Three fiddy. JASON ... three fiddy it is. JASON Of sorts... GUY Whatsat mean?

43.

JASON Yes, I got your goddamn hot sauce, now let me in. GUY In a little second. He hangs up. Leaving Jason in the rainy night. After a few seconds, a girl walks by, about to enter the building. Jason doesnt recognize her. JASON Um, excuse mThe girl immediately recognises him, and him her. Its the girl from before. GIRL Why are you following me? Stop it! Im gonna call the cops. She runs away, taking her phone out of her pocket. JASON (Shouting after her) No, you dont understand... wait! But it was too late, the girl was already a large distance away, shouting on the phone. Jason calls his apartment again. Guy picks up. JASON (CONTD) Guy. Cops are coming for me. Please, let me up. GUY Come on up. The door buzzes, Jason opens the door. The girl, not noticing his disappearance. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - NIGHT Jason enters. JASON What the hell, why wouldnt you let me in? GUY I was thinking.

44.

JASON About a plan? GUY Not a very sophisticated one, but a plan nonetheless. Did you get the hot sauce? JASON (Revealing his purchase) Of sorts... GUY Thatll have to do. JASON What are you gonna use it for? GUY Look... Guy reaches into the fridge, takes out some leftover chicken. Opens the container, squeezes Ketchup out of the bottle, and starts eating. JASON ...youre starting to get on my nerves, Guy. GUY Why not tell me to leave? JASON What did you do with Frank? GUY Not telling you. Could put you in danger. JASON Oh, cus Im not already. GUY No. Youre not. Theyll only shoot you if you physically start fighting them. JASON I did! GUY Well they dont know that!

45.

JASON Why not? They know everything. GUY They dont know that... dont worry. Youre still safe. Once were done Ill leave and youll be the happiest person alive. JASON I hope so. GUY So, were gonna have you join the gang. JASON Whatever happened to no danger? GUY It wont be dangerous. Im telling you. Dont worry... (Slight pause) I recognized one of the members. I know where he lives. Tomorrow we follow him wherever he goes and youll introduce yourself. JASON How? What do I say? GUY Whatever you feel like. They wont care. So long as they see a lonely, trashy white guy youre in. Your basketball skills might even help. JASON I dont want to. GUY Now, cmon. Were almost done. JASON Im going to sleep. GUY Goodnight. JASON Whyd they beat you up and take your record if you dont know them? Why didnt they kill you? GUY My departure may have created some ripples in the business... alot of people recognize me that I dont know. JASON Youre famous?

47.

GUY To some people. Not to you. JASON Why didnt they kill you? everybody else is... GUY While they probably hate my guts... my assumption is they were told specifically not to. JASON Why? GUY I dont know. But Im grateful for it. Maybe they were told to leave it to the pros. JASON Those were pros? Pretty easy to defeat. GUY No. Those are the amateurs. The prosll take longer to come. But trust me, theyll come. JASON Just make sure they dont come to my place. GUY Dont worry, this should only take a few days. JASON A few days? I thought it would only be one. GUY Depends. You have to get close enough to the record so that you can take it without anyone noticing. JASON Guy, I dont wanna do this anymore. GUY No. Youll do it. I cant.

48.

JASON This has got to be the dumbest plan ever. What if I get caught? GUY Then theyll kick you out. No big deal. JASON This is going to fail. The bald man enters a sushi restaurant. They follow. GUY You go in alone. Theyre probably meeting there. You know the plan. Just introduce yourself. Not your real name. JASON Okay. Okay. Im... Cedric. GUY Cedric? JASON Yeah. I could be a Cedric. Right? GUY Whatever you want, just go. INT. SUSHI SHOP - DAY Jason enters cautiously. He looks around slowly. He sees a couple on a date, three girls gossiping, and finally... a group of guys. Among them, overweight baldy. A waitress comes up to him. JASON Uh, just one please. Can I sit there? He points to at table with a good view of the table full of gangsters. WAITRESS Of course. Ill be right back with the menu.

49.

JASON (Muttering, under his breath) Gangsters... at a sushi shop. He looks out of the window. He sees Guy. Guy motions him to get things going. Jason takes a few deep breaths. He reluctantly gets up and heads to The Table. Gaining confidence with each step, Jason gets in character. He finally makes it, standing awkwardly at five guys staring at him. After a few seconds: JASON (CONTD) Uh... yo! Im Cedric... Wussup. Nobody says anything for a few seconds. Finally one of them, a leader, talks. THUG Hey, Cedric. The rest mutter together the same response. THUG (CONTD) What can we do for you? He has messy stubble. But a nice inviting smile. That was unexpexted. JASON Uhh... hey- Can I join you guys... or whatever... ain-aint no thang. A small moment of silence. THUG Sure. Join us. Another guy looks outraged at his decision. OUTRAGED GUY What are you thinking? Whatll Gook say? THUG Gookll be fine. Now just to be clear here... (MORE)

50. THUG (CONT'D) when you say join us, you mean what I think you mean... right?

They make eye contact. They understand each other. The apparent leader motions to Jason to sit down. Jason awkwardly complies. After a few seconds of silence, they all resume conversation. GUY-THEY-WERE-FOLLOWING So, like I was saying before... the nigger turns around and spits on my... Okay? And then I say to his friend. Uh, you should control your monkey here sir! They all errupt laughing. Jason looks confused, but fakely joins along. THUG You did not! GUY-THEY-WERE-FOLLOWING (still laughing) I did, I did. A waitress brings over three plates of sushi. THUG Goddamn it, woman, I didnt order this crap! I said dynamite roll. Dynamite. D-Y-N-A-M-I-T-E! WAITRESS (In a thick japanes accent) Oh, sorry, sorry. THUG Goddamn immigrants... The gang lets out a weak burst of laughter. THUG (CONTD) Why do they come here? Dont even speak the goddamn fucking language... they only complain. Oh, we want, rights, we want freedom, Jason looks startled. A Did he just say that look.

51.

THE-OTHER-DUDE And they take all the jobs too! As if they have anything to complain about. THUG Exactly. Theyre everywhere. Everywhere. Have you ever turned your head around the street and not seen any shit-bag indians or any colored folk. Too many simply too many. GUY-THEY-WERE-FOLLOWING You heard of Governer Leo? Theres somebody whos got some common sense. THUG Amen. I mean, every sushi shop, not a single decent person ever comes to help. All these non-english speaking foreigners... A short silence, giving a small window of opportunity for Jason to chime in. JASON Why dont you just not go to sushi shops? Everybody stares at him for a while. THUG Because I fucking love sushi, Cedric. The thug starts laughing. Jason looks uncomfortable. THUG (CONTD) You guys wanna leave? Tired of these... yellow turds. They walk out. EXT. STREETS - DAY Jason looks over and sees Guy hidden in the corner. He mouths: JASON Oh. My. God.

52.

Jason follows the group around different places, suffering through slurs of racist comments and actions. They go to a burger place, a bowling alley, and finally, at night... A movie theatre. Guy is subtly following them. EXT. MOVIE THEATRE - NIGHT THUG Im telling you, guys. Once Asians make up over fifty percent of America... thats when itll all end. THE-OTHER-DUDE End of what? THUG The world, life as we know it. Fucking judgement day man. God bless. May He watch over us. All mutter a little prayer to the Lord. At this point Jason looks like hes losing it. They all walk into the theatre. INT. MOVIE THEATRE - NIGHT THUG (To Jason) We like to spend the rest of the night in here. Watch a bunch o movies. Theyre different every night. JASON C-cool. THUG A few other people hang out here... its cool. Its very cool... (In a whisper) Some of them look like theyre up to some illegal business, but we dont like to bother them. He nods his head to another group of people huddled in a circle around one guy. That guy is smoking something.

53.

THUG (CONTD) So, without further ado, lets go in! Jason goes through the door and into the actual show room. He is followed by his group of racist white boys. They walk together and sit down in the middle row, in the center of the entire room. After a few moments, the other group joins them. The film starts. After an intense couple of hours watching a movie... they walk out, looking blown away and excited by the movie. Well... except for Jason, whos sweating like a pig. THUG (CONTD) Goddamn! What? Halfway through that blew my mind. THE-OTHER-DUDE When I saw the necklace I knew they wouldnt just leave it there... I called it. Thug slaps Jason on the shoulder. THUG Jesus, Cedric youre sweating like a pig! That scare you? JASON No, no... Im good... THUG Well, get ready cus were about to go for round two. JASON I think I just need to use the washroom. THUG No problem, Ced. Can I call you Ced? JASON What? Yeah, sure. Jason rushes away, climbing stairs to go to the washroom.

54.

On his way there, he passes an open door. The entire trashy gang from before are hanging out there. Once he passes it, somebody calls out from the room. RAYMOND (O.S.) You. Jason stops dead in his tracks. He slowly walks backwards until he faces the open doorway. RAYMOND Come in. Jason complies. He walks in, people shuffle around to clear up a narrow passage he can go through. He turns a corner. Finally, Jason can see the man who called him in, sitting behind a table at the end of the smoky room. A fit man, not handsome, but strong and dark skinned. This guys name is Raymond. RAYMOND (CONTD) Hey, hey, friend. Cedric isnt it. Come, join us. One of Raymonds goons pulls out a chair and positions it facing the table. RAYMOND (CONTD) That was a pretty heavy movie wasnt it? JASON Uh, yes... it was. Plenty of, uh, psychological themes, I can look into... once Im back home. RAYMOND Where do you live? JASON (In panic) Uh-C-Canada. RAYMOND Canada! Places been all over the news... they find that sicko movie killer? JASON Uh, no... I dont think so. (O.S.) (CONTD)

55.

After a pause. RAYMOND You know who I am? JASON No. GOON Hes Raymond. RAYMOND Im Raymond. JASON h-hi, Raymond. RAYMOND Yeah, after a movie like that we like to come up here, sit down and just think about it. Could help you, I think, sweatin like a pig. JASON I see... yeah. Thinking... uh, thinkings good. RAYMOND (Blowing smoke) Thinkings... great. He blows smoke rings from his mouth. One conveniently circles around a part in a bookshelf behind Raymond. Jason focuses on it. He sees a record. The record. Raymond wobbles around on his chair, turning to see what Jason was gazing at. RAYMOND (CONTD) Thats a gift from an old friend of mine. JASON Oh, yeah? RAYMOND Lets call him Romeo. JASON Romeo, why?

56.

RAYMOND Well, he was... you know the story, he fell in love with this girl, yaddy-yaddy-ya. Drama, tears, smiles. Whatever. JASON Thats nice. RAYMOND They do have a difference. JASON Whats that? RAYMOND This Romeo he didnt kill himself, No, no. Ruined the whole goddamn ending. JASON You like Shakespeare? RAYMOND (Angrily) I like Romeo and Juliet. This commands Jason to remain silent. JASON Im sorry. Raymond leans to the edge of the chair, and pulls back his coat, revealing a gun. Jason notices but tries not to make a big deal out of it. He looks at the record again. RAYMOND What are you doing with those bastards down there? JASON Sorry, what? RAYMOND Those racist fucks, down there. Are you a racist fuck Cedric? JASON No.

57.

RAYMOND No, what? JASON I am not a racist fuck. RAYMOND Good! Then what are you doing with them? Enjoying their company? JASON ...uh, Im... uh... learning french. RAYMOND Youre learning french? JASON Yes. French, uh, the larger bald one is teaching me. RAYMOND You mean Frank? JASON Yeah. RAYMOND Franks my old high school friend. JASON Oh. RAYMOND Frank doesnt know french. Dead silence. RAYMOND (CONTD) Cedric, Im gonna ask you one last time, okay? Just a last one. JASON O-okay. RAYMOND (Standing up, leaning over the table) What were you doing with those... asswipes downstairs!? JASON Im trying to make friends!

58.

RAYMOND What? JASON Uh, Im lonely, and I saw them at a sushi shop. They looked like they were having fun. I joined them. RAYMOND Youre lonely? JASON Y-yes? RAYMOND Well heck, Jason, you could have told us! You can be our friend! JASON Oh, can I? His eye darts to the record on the bookshelf. Then, to Raymonds gun. Out of nowhere, Raymonds hands are wrapped around his neck, choking him. RAYMOND What do you see? A record? Why you see it? Jasons face is getting redder and redder. RAYMOND (CONTD) I know. I know why. He lets go of him. Jason falls clutching his sore neck. Raymond gets up and grabs him by the arm. He drags Jason outside. On the way there: RAYMOND (CONTD) I know who sent you. I know he sent you. I know why he sent you. Tell him if he wants his music back, all he gotta do is come talk to an old friend. Okay, you tell him that.

59.

EXT. MOVIE THEATRE Still clutching him by the arm, Raymond starts shouting in the street. RAYMOND Romeo, O Romeo. Where art thou... Or Wherefore art thou, who gives a shit! Come talk to me when youre ready to deal the dice. He punches Jason in the face and sends him on his way. Jason runs away back home. Raymond walks back in the theatre, his gang surrounding him. RAYMOND (CONTD) (To one of his goons) You. Follow him. Find out who he is. Discreetly. EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - NIGHT Jason is running frantically towards his building. In front, waiting for him; Guy, displeased. JASON Did-did you see what happened? GUY I heard the last bit. JASON Howd you get here so fast. GUY I walked. JASON Lets go in. GUY Were you followed? JASON No! Lets go in. They both walk into the building.

60.

INT. JASONS APARTMENT They enter quietly. Guys face is twisted in a stern, angry manner. JASON I saw the record, by the way. GUY Good job. JASON That guy you said you recognized turned out to be part of some modern KKK club, nothing to do with who we were looking for last night. He was probably tagging along with those other guys the other night... thats why we recognized him. Guy refuses to respond. JASON (CONTD) Howd you know him? Nevermind. Want me to tell you what happened? GUY Go ahead. JASON Well, I needed to go to the washroom, then this guy called me into a room. There I sawGUY Who was he? JASON The guy who called me in? He said his name was Raymond. Know him? Upon hearing the name, Guy smashes his fist on the counter, then brushes his hair with both his hands. JASON (CONTD) I guess you do. Who is he? GUY An asshole... no, nope. Hes a cunt. JASON A cunt, good. How do you know him?

61.

Guy is too deep in thought to process his question. JASON (CONTD) Somehow he knew I was with you. GUY You gave yourself away. JASON No. I didnt. GUY Yeah you did. You gave yourself away, its simple. JASON But I do know where the record is. GUY That doesnt matter, we cant get it. JASON Well, maybe you could go and talk to him. GUY Shut up. Shut the fuck up. JASON Im just trying to help. GUY Well youre not. You failed. Good job. JASON Hey, that-s easy for you to say, Ive never been involved in anything remotely close to what I had to do there. GUY ... cant believe I trusted you... to carry outJASON Hey, listen, I tried. I was your only hope and I tried, all I know is you asked me to do it and I did.

62.

GUY You clearly didnt. Otherwise my fucking record would be on this counter right now. JASON Shut up, Guy. Just shut up. Why do you need this one specific record anyway, cant you just buy another one? GUY (Raises his voice to a shout) Buy a new one? NO! I cant fucking buy a goddamn new record. This is the one that matters, this is the only one. JASON (Calmly) Guy, stop yelling at me please, stoGUY Its ruined, the whole thing... now because of you, Im gonna die, unforgiven. Because of fucking, you. Asshole! JASON Unforgiven by Julianne? I dont see why shed forgive you. Right now, I can understand perfectly why she left you in the first place. Guy starts pacing around the room, infuriated, clutching his hands into fists and wrapping them around his head. JASON (CONTD) Getting everybody else to do your dirty work. GUY Stop. JASON Overreacting when they do it incorrectly. GUY Jason, stop.

63.

JASON And never attempting to understand others. I mean, the very first day, I showed you kindness, maybe even I saved your life... I wake up the very next day, youre taking a shower, like what the hell? Who does that? You shaved with god knows whos razor, invite all these hitmen and kill them in my house and then send me on some dumd stupid ass errand for hot sauce, never explaining yourself, never telling the truth. Why would she forgive you, Guy? Huh? I have no clue, I would definitely never forgive you. Guy lets out a shout and punches Jason in the nose, making him fall backwards on the floor. Blood starts flowing into his mouth and chin. He slowly gets back up. GUY ... fuck... Jason. I dont know... JASON Get out. GUY No, Jason, ImJASON Get the fuck out of my house. I cant remember why I let you in, anyways. GUY Fuck, Jason. Dont do this, I need you. JASON I dont care, Guy. I honestly dont. Just go. The two stand there in silence for a second. Guy turns around and walks out the door. Once outside of the apartment, he turns back around to say something, but Jason slams it in his face. GUY ... Im sorry.

64.

INT. APATMENT BUILDING HALLWAY - NIGHT Exactly at this moment, the girl from earlier walks down the stairs, helping an elderly woman do the same thing. They see Guy and look angrily at him. As they walk by: GIRL Shes too good for you. ELDERLY WOMAN Asshole. They go one their merry way. Guy just stands there, leaning on the door for a few seconds. Then he turns around and leaves. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - NIGHT Jason is peering out of the peephole in the door. He sees Guy leave. He turns around, noticing that he left a stain of blood on the door as well as a few walls. He goes to his food cupboard, opens it and gets some cereal. He then sits down on the couch, eating his cereal, face still bloody. Once again, a small cloud of sunlight starts appearing in the horizon, through the window. Dawn is coming. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - DAY Morning is everywhere. Jason is once again sitting coiled up in a ball on his sofa. Except this time, his clothes are bloody. He goes to the washroom. As soon as he opens it, and grimaces in disgust at the pungent odor. He looks opens the shower curtain and sees Franks dead body from before.

65.

JASON No place else to hide it... Jason exits his bathroom, closing the door behind him. He puts on a sweater, swings his laptop bag over his shoulder and walks out the apartment, planning on carrying out a normal day. EXT. CAMPUS - DAY It starts to rain, luckily Jasons prepared. He pulls out an umbrella and resumes his journey. Once again he navigates the wet streets, alone. People stare at him as he walks past them. He makes his way to the cafeteria from before. INT. CAFETERIA - DAY Jason is staring blankly at his laptop screen. An uneaten sandwich in front of him. Louis walks by and does a double-take, realising its his good bud Jason. LOUIS Hey, Jason. Hows it goin, didnt see ya these past few days. JASON Oh really? Yeah, Ive been busy. LOUIS Jeez... is that blood? JASON Oh, this? Yeah. LOUIS Howd it happen? JASON Got in a fight. LOUIS (Cracking up a smile) You win? JASON No.

66.

LOUIS It happens, man. Well nice seeing ya, you coming to Andrews tonight? JASON Andrews? Tonight... no. I dont think I can. LOUIS Ah, too bad. Right, well, take it easy Jason. Dont study too hard. JASON Bye. Louis walks away. Jason stares at his computer screen. EXT. STREET - DAY Guy is also frantically walking through the rain. He does not have an umbrella though. His pace is fast, and he knocks into a few people as he walks. As a result, people move to the side of the sidewalk. He turns a corner and hes in front of the theatre Raymonds gang resides in. He waits a second, thinking about going in but decides against it. Instead, he turns around again looking even more frustrated than before. EXT. BUS STOP - DAY Jason is waiting at the bus stop. The girl from before approaches the very same bus stop. They stand next to each other, waiting for the bus, in the rain. The girl doesnt have an umbrella though. She shivers. Jason looks around, everybody has an umbrella buddy, sharing their umbrella with them. He decides to do the same. He leans over, extends his arm and covers both the girl and him under the protection of the umbrella. GIRL Thanks.

67.

She looks at him and recognizes him. This time, she doesnt freak out. GIRL (CONTD) Hi. Im Julia. JASON Hey. JULIA (With a smile) I think weve met. JASON Yeah, we did. Just yesterday we saw each other. JULIA Pleasant, wasnt it? JASON Just to reassure you, I wasnt following you those... just freak coincidences. By the way I live in that building too, you know. Apartment 5. JULIA I figured... I just got a little paranoid... we live in the same building you know? JASON Huh. The bus comes, putting the conversation to a halt. INT. BUS - DAY Upon entering the bus, Julia lights up. JULIA Apartment five! I remember last nigth... walked by with 7 and saw a guy there. JASON Oh yeah! You did? JULIA He was waiting at your door... wait a second, are you gay? (MORE)

JASON No, no. Its nothing like that. Thanks for the concern though. Im not gay. JULIA Im sorry. Get a little too... into it sometimes. JASON No problem... I appreciate your concern. JULIA You go to college here? JASON Yeah. University. JULIA Oh, yeah. Me too. What do you study? JASON Nothing fun. JULIA Ugh, I know that feeling. JASON Where are you from? JULIA Minnesota, why? JASON You miss it there? JULIA So much, you wouldnt believe. JASON I feel the same. Im from Canada. JULIA Oh, a Canadian, eh?

69.

JASON So listen... wanna come over... to apartment 5? JULIA I wish, my schedule is so full I barely have enough time to enjoy independance once in a while. JASON Oh, well... thats okay... JULIA I only get home till like ten, at which point I have to eat, shower... you get the gist... JASON Oh, well come down whenever you like. I cant usually sleep so, my doors always open. JULIA Ill be sure to keep that in mind. The bus stops, Julia stands up, in order to get off. JULIA (CONTD) Arent you coming? JASON No, sorry, I gotta go to work. JULIA Where do you work? JASON Costco. JULIA Wow. Can get anything at a Costco, right? JASON No, not everything! Julia gets off the bus. She waves bye to her new friend. EXT. STREETS - DAY Guy is leaning over a stone wall, holding a piece of cardboard for refuge from the rain.

70.

A guy walks past him, innocently. Totally out of the blue, the guy turns around, and attempts to stab Guy with the point of his umbrella through his skull. Guy, obviously cautious of these surprise sneak attacks, dodges the umbrella easily. What he did not expect was the man pulling a knife from his belt and slashing him in the belly. Before he acknowledges pain, Guy grabs the guys knife holding hand and bends it so far backwards he lets go of the knife. Guy manages to hold him down with one knee and an arm, and with the other he drives the knife through the mans chest. Guy walks away, clutching his belly, blood dripping out of his shirt. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - AFTERNOON Jason is in his apartment, eating cereal. He gets a phone call. JASON Whos this? MOTHER Jason, its me. JASON Oh, hi mom. Hows it going? MOTHER Did you sister text or call you recently? JASON No. Why? MOTHER (Voice breaks) Shes not here, we cant find her anywhere! EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING STREET- AFTERNOON Guy is speed-walking down the street, clutching his tummy, looking cautiously around him for danger.

71.

Three guys come running behind him, he sees them and starts trotting pathetically. He gets in front of Jasons apartment building and clicks on the button that says room 5. GUY Cmon, Jason. Please. The three hitmen are catching up. Guy buzzes the apartment more frantically. All are withing ten feet, holding knives. Guy manages to fight off the first, but the second drives a knife through his shoulder. The third slowly walks towards him, for the fatal slit of the throat. Knife around his neck, cold steal kissing the scalding skin. BANG, Jason knocks the Hitman down with a slab of wood, he falls to the ground. A second comes towards him, ready to strike but he slaps him across the face with the same piece of wood. The third ,that Guy fought off before, gets up only to be kicked unconscious in the back of the head by Guy. The two take their adversariess daze and confusion to their advantage and flee. EXT. DOWNTOWN STREETS - AFTERNOON The streets are packed. They are automatically blurred by the crowd, any hope those hitmen had of finding them is gone. Jason pulls out the knife from Guys shoulder. GUY Couldnt you come earlier? JASON Shut up, youre still not forgiven. GUY Why did you help me, then? Jason slaps him. People watch.

72.

JASON My sisters missing. GUY Im sorry. JASON Im pretty sure she was kidnapped by Raymond. GUY Oh. Whyd he do that? JASON To get to me. GUY Whyd he want to get to you? JASON I dunno! He figures if he gets to me he gets to you. GUY Well, was he right? JASON He sure as hell was. GUY What do you want me to do? JASON I want you and I to go in that theatre and find out what the fuck happened to Leanne! GUY Is that your sisters name? Leanne? JASON Its better than Julianne. GUY Fuck off. JASON Stop joking about this shit asshole! GUY Im sorry. But no. I cant go in there.

73.

JASON Yes you can. You will go there. My sister has nothing to do with this. She does not deserve to suffer because of you. I do not deserve to suffer because of you. GUY Jason, theyll kill me. Right when I walk through those doors. Besides, youre the one that fucked up, all you needed to do was keep your cover. JASON I dont think so, they wont kill you. GUY You dont think so? Why? JASON Well, if they went through so much trouble just to get you... they wouldnt kill you. I think. GUY Oh, you think! JASON Yes! I think, goddamnit! GUY Look, Jason the only reason why I would ever go through those doors is to get my record to my wife. JASON Well we dont know what they want, maybe you could strike a deal. GUY A deal? What kind of deal would that be? I get to live, I get the record, you get to live, you get your sister? Nice little paradise world you live in, isnt it? JASON Well if one of us lives than we can bring each others stuff to safety. Ill deliver the record to your wife. If I die, get my sister to safety.

74.

GUY If I die... youll deliver it to her? Wow, thanks. Warms my heart. JASON Well what would you rather do? Its not like she cant forgive you in your death. GUY Its not that simple. JASON Well then what, then? Guy doesnt answer. JASON (CONTD) What then? GUY I dont know! Id rather keep my life, thank you very much. JASON Would you? You said so yourself youre gonna die soon. From the looks of it you dont have much time left anyway. Guy hesitates a moment. JASON (CONTD) Whats your life worth? Another moment. GUY Shit, kid. I suppose youre right. JASON ... Sorry. GUY Nah, I needed to hear that. JASON So what then? GUY Lets go to the theatre! Well see what happens.

75.

JASON Best shot we have, right? GUY Best shot we got. EXT. MOVIE THEATRE - AFTERNOON Both are standing facing the theatre directly. JASON Tell me, Guy. GUY What. JASON Who are you? GUY Why? JASON Well, youre the only friend I have in this city. I dont know anything about you. I dont even know if Guy is your real name. GUY Jason, youre the person who knows everything about me. Silence, both stare at the theatre. GUY (CONTD) Shall we go in? Jason takes a deep breath. JASON Fine. They both open the doors to the theatre. INT. MOVIE THEATRE - AFTERNOON GUY Damn, I wish I had hot sauce right now. JASON Why?

76.

GUY Love hot sauce. They find themselves in the main hall of the small theatre, movie posters lining the walls. Raymond appears on the other end, arms outstretched. RAYMOND AH, my dear long lost friend. He walks up to Guy and attempts to hug him. Guy dodges it. Raymond is saddened. RAYMOND (CONTD) Well I missed you my friend... Im sorry to see you dont feel the same way. GUY Cut the shit Raymond. We need to talk. Raymonds gang appears at a distance behind them. Raymond notices Guys gaze and follows it. RAYMOND Ah, cant you see how much Ive grown? I got thirty people now! Guy keeps his silence, though he does look less confident than before. RAYMOND (CONTD) And all of them guys! Look at it. Look at em! Goddamn Sausage fest isnt it? WE NEED SOME GIRLS UP IN HERE. Still, Guy stays quiet. RAYMOND (CONTD) (Sighs) Anyway. I see you brough Cedric, uh, I mean Jason with you. How would you lads like to come to my office to discuss... our... business? GUY Wed like it very much Ray. Thank you.

77.

Raymond leads them up a flight of stairs, through a hallway and into the small room Jason was invited to before. Raymond assumes his seat. Guy looks over at the record, still on the bookshelf behind him. RAYMOND So. Jason... uh, McCarthur I think it was... how much do you know about me and... whatever this man goes by these days... Jason shifts his gaze from Raymond to Guy, and back to Raymond. JASON Nothing... I dont know anything. RAYMOND Good! Storytime. GUY Raymond, enough of thisRAYMOND Tut-tut. I think it is in everyones best interest for our mutually acquainted friend here to know all the facts before he makes an opinion about all this. Guy resigns. RAYMOND (CONTD) Once upon a time, I was young... and fun... and friendly... and nice. This man here, was my best friend werent you? He looks intently at Guy, trying to figure it out. RAYMOND (CONTD) What was your name back then? Harrison? Chester? Doesnt matter. After years of childish fantasies of girls and SEX... (Large emphasis on the sex, shouting it out) I got myself a girlfriend! Guy looks down at his knees.

78.

RAYMOND (CONTD) Oh, and we were so perfect for each other, so perfect oh my goodness. She would talk, I would talk, she would ask me about my day, Id ask about hers, wed make out, wed laugh, wed cry... He sinks momentarily into the memories he was describing, but he comes back to reality when a fly lands on his cheek. He swats it, slapping himself in the process. He gives it no more mind. RAYMOND (CONTD) And then he comes in. My best friend. My Wingman. What a wingman he was, quite formidable I must say. So much so, in fact, that he ended up stealing her away! My Julie! She left me. FOR HIM. Ah, yes, my heart was broken. It was shattered. But... I couldnt stay mad at my best friend. No, no, I forgave him. I had to. Wed known each other for years, we lived together. I had to forgive. We grew up grew up, him with her and me alone... maturing. Blossoming. I watched as she fell head over heels for this man, this simple man, this jackass who treated her only a fraction as well as I did. I heard them fight once. I did. He hit her. He BEAT her. But she forgave him. And all was good, so he kept doing it again and again... but she forgave him so all was good. Guy is hiding his face with his hand. Ashamed at himself. He lets out a sigh of pain as the described memories were projected in his mind once again. RAYMOND (CONTD) Just betrayal after betrayal wasnt it? You came home drunk, high, cheated on her, I even saw him stealing from her wallet at one point. Guy has a tear rolling down his cheek.

79.

RAYMOND (CONTD) I remember that record... that was the one you got for her on her birthday. You were afraid she wouldnt like it for a certain reason, I have no idea why. Ended up never giving it to her. Why did you care about whether she liked it or not? Im the one who tried so hard, did all the effort... to keep her from going batshit crazy from depression... I even brought her on a romantic date at costco the other day... I think the night before she saw finally got to her senses. GUY Stop. Jason looks at Guy, concerned at the new light shed on his friend. RAYMOND Still after all this... nothing hurt me more than you turning your back on me. Nothing. After everything Id done for you. Everything I forgave you for, everything I sacrificed... you just run away forever, my business was in ruins you know that? Were bankrupt. And now here I am. Look at me, king of the lower city drug dealers. This is where we find ourselves. No Julie, no friends, no money... no honour. Just corrupt. I think thats an accurate way of describing our situation, dont you think? Guy is finished, hes still bleeding from his shoulder and his belly but now he looks tired finally. JASON I came for my sister. I know you have her. Where is she. RAYMOND Hey Harry! HARRY (O.S.) Yeah?

80.

RAYMOND Come up here! Harry appears in the doorframe. RAYMOND (CONTD) Now, Jason, if youd kindly allow Harry here to escort you outside. JASON What about my sister? RAYMOND Her fate lies entirely on this mans hands. Theres nothing you can do about it. Harry pulls out a gun and points it at Jason. HARRY And I want no trouble, sugar. Understand? RAYMOND Thank you Harry. HARRY No problem Raymond. Harry grabs Jason by the back and pulls him outside. Now only Raymond and Guy remain in the room. GUY ... Im sorry. RAYMOND You know youre daughter? You sent her to the orphanage? GUY ...yeah? RAYMOND I tracked her down. I killed her. Guy just looks shocked. Beyond words. RAYMOND (CONTD) Who else did I kill? Oh right... I found Saunders, youre mentor. Him. And it is quite shocking you didnt hear this but... (MORE)

81. RAYMOND (CONTD) youre mother took a little too much insulin one day and... left this world.

GUY ...when....? RAYMOND Well, around a month ago. I was beginning to think you were dead, but then Jason here came in the other night with this more than inquisitive look at this. He brings the record down from the bookshelf. RAYMOND (CONTD) Now, what to do of this... little piece of gold. GUY Give it to Jason. Hell get it to Julie. You can kill me. RAYMOND No! Thats no fun, cmon. Harry! Harry appears at the doorframe again. HARRY Yeah? RAYMOND Bring in the girl. HARRY You got it, Ray. After a few moments of silence, Harry comes back, dragging a handcuffed and gagged LEANNE. Guy recognizes her through the pictures he saw at Jasons house. GUY Im sorry. RAYMOND Its a good think Im not the only guy you pissed off... I needed help to get her in. GUY What do you want, Raymond.

82.

RAYMOND A little bit of revenge, a little bit of fun. EXT. MOVIE THEATRE - NIGHT Jason is frantically pacing up and down the segment of sidewalk in front of the theatre. He tries to get in, but two of Raymonds men hold the door closed. INT. MOVIE THEATRE - NIGHT RAYMOND We can make a deal! How does that sound, friend? GUY What is it? RAYMOND Option number one: I destroy the record, mow you down with my .44. I let the girl go. She and Jason can run away back home to Canada like the happy sons of bitches you and I used to be. GUY Option two? RAYMOND Option two: You take the record, walk away. I blow a bullet through her head and chuck her body for her brother to weep over on the street. I then let you go, free to do anything you like before all the other dicks you pissed off get to you and kill you. Guy thinks. RAYMOND (CONTD) By all means, take your time. GUY Dont do this Raymond. Dont do it, I beg you. She and Jason have nothing to do with this.

83.

RAYMOND Exactly. A few more seconds of intense thinking. RAYMOND (CONTD) If you choose the latter, I can even get you some hot sauce. How does that sound. He looks at Leanne, eyes pleading for mercy. Her spirit, broken. After a few seconds: GUY Let her go. RAYMOND Are you sure? GUY Yes. Let her go. RAYMOND Okay, then. He reaches for the keys and unlocks her handcuffs. He takes off her gag, and hugs her. RAYMOND (CONTD) Im gonna miss you, honey. Too bad you cant stick around. He slaps her in the ass and sends her on the way outside. She flashes a look of gratitude and guilt at Guy. Raymond reaches for the record. GUY Please, Raymond... you have no idea how sorry... Raymond holds the record in his two hands. He puts it in an envelope and CRUSHES it. As the SHATTER is heard, Guy falls to his knees. Raymond chucks the envelope out of the open window at the end of his office. It lands next to Jason and Leanne who are too busy hugging each other in the rain to notice anything.

84.

Guy heads for the window and looks out, searching for the record. RAYMOND Now this. He pulls out his gun and SHOOTS Guy six times in the back, while hes looking out. Guy falls out the window, into the rainy outside air. He lands with a THUMP in front of Jason and Leanne. EXT. MOVIE THEATRE - NIGHT Rain keeps falling, and Guy is laying on the ground, motionless. Blood is spewing from most areas of his torso. Both Jason and Leanne stare at him in shock. Miraculously, he starts moving. Ever so slowly. He reaches for the envelope in front of him and attempts picking it up. He grabs the wrong end and all the broken pieces of the record fall out. He GRUNTS in frustration. Jason rushes to his side. JASON Holy shit. Holy shit. Guy picks up a large piece of the record and clutches it with all his might. Jason picks him up. JASON (CONTD) Leanne, what do I do? Leanne is awe-struck, unable to muster the focus required for any form of speech. Coming to her senses. LEANNE We need to get him to a hospital! In the lowest whisper:

85.

GUY No. Julie... get...me. Julie. JASON Okay, okay well get you to Julie, dont you worry Guy. Well get you to- We need a car, Leanne, do you know how we can get a car? Without thinking, Leanne walks over to a nearby parked car and cracks the window. The ALARM goes off. JASON (CONTD) Dammit Leanne! Now what? LEANNE I can do this. She enters the car. Within a few seconds, the alarm goes off. A few more seconds, the car starts. JASON How did you do that? LEANNE I learned stuff. JASON No kidding. He shoves Guy in the backseat and goes in front. Leanne rides shotgun. JASON (CONTD) Okay, Guy. I need you to focus now. Tell me where Julie lives. Okay? Tell me where she lives. After a moment of uncertainty: GUY (Gasping, Hyperventilating) 820... Lakewood... Crescent... JASON 820 Lakewood crescent. Look that up Leanne. LEANNE I am! I am! Drive! Jason starts driving and pulls into a larger, more crowded street.

86.

JASON Stay with me, Guy. Well get you to your Julia, just stay with us. Guy grunts. EXT. HIGHWAY - NIGHT It stopped raining but its still dark outside. The GPS brought them to a more rural part of town. JASON Are you sure you gave us the right address, it doesnt seem very... They see a street sign that says Lakewood Crescent Right JASON (CONTD) Sorry. I cant wait to meet her, Guy. Im sure shes gorgeous. Guy grunts. JASON (CONTD) Cmon, almost there. They find number 820. And pull into the driveway. GUY First row... Second right... JASON First row what? Jason parks the car and immediately gets out. He runs across the driveway, trying to locate the house of this Julianne. JASON (CONTD) Where is it? Where the fuckHe turns around and sees it. A humongous graveyard. EXT. GRAVEYARD - NIGHT The discovery tumbles down on him, and he looks in pity at the broken man laying in the back of this stolen car. LEANNE Cmon, lets go.

87.

They pull Guy out and rush towards the Graveyard, holding him up. They look for Juliannes grave. The first row, second one to the right. The grave reads simply: Juliet Guy sees it. GUY There... There... They lay him down in front of Juliettes grave. From his pocket he pulls out the shard from the broken record. GUY (CONTD) Go... Go... leave. JASON Are you sure? GUY Leave. JASON Youll die... GUY I... would... anyways. JASON Im sorry. GUY Just... hot sauce. He pulls out another bottle of hot sauce from his pocket and hands it to Jason. GUY (CONTD) Leave. Melancholically, Jason brings Leanne back to the car, leaving Guy sprawled out in front of his ex-wifes grave in the peaceful darkness of night. They enter the car. After a few seconds of deep reflection, Jason turns on the radio. RADIO ANNOUNCER NASA scientist, James Rockwell, spotted an asteroid in the sky moving straight for earth. (MORE)

88. RADIO ANNOUNCER (CONT'D) The size and exact shape of this asteroid is not yet determined but it is calculated that it will make contact within the next two years...

JASON Look at that. We all wouldve died anyway. Leanne seems unsure what to say to comfort your brother. LEANNE I missed you. JASON Missed you too. LEANNE What now? JASON Now? I bring you to the airport, get you a flight back home. Momll be worried sick. LEANNE You think? JASON Just dont tell her about all this. LEANNE What do I say? JASON Tell her... you needed to crash here for a few days or something... LEANNE ...okay... JASON Im sorry you had to live through that. Come back again, for a regular visit next time... Leanne remains silent.

89.

INT. JASONS APARTMENT - NIGHT Having dropped off his sister at the airport and sent her on her merry way back home, Jason is now, once again, coiled up in a ball on his sofa. He gets up and makes himself a bowl of cereal. CRUNCH, SLURP. He walks around the apartment a few times. He gets a text from Holly Winsten. HOLLY WINSTEN (Via text) Wanna hook up tonight, cutie? He ignores it and does a few more laps around his apartment. Finally he looks out the window, where he saw Guy laying there only a week ago. After a few seconds of nostalgia, a girl walks in his field of view. Its Julia, from earlier. EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - NIGHT She goes to the front door of the apartment building and fumbles with her keys. She mutters a curse when she realises she forgot the keys to the building. She buzzes apartment 5. INT. JASONS APARTMENT - DAY A loud buzz fills the room. Jason goes up to the intercom, curious. JASON Hello? JULIA Hey, its Julia. From earlier? JASON Yeah? Its Jason.

90.

JULIA I know. I left the keys to my apartment somewhere, can you please let me in? JASON Uh, sure. Come on up. He presses a button on the intercom. After a few seconds, Jason runs to the washroom, bears through the pungent odor of Franks body and brushes his hair and teeth, as well as changes out of his bloody clothes and puts on some deodorant. Upon finishing this routine, he waits couch. patiently on the
