BACKGROUND Kurnia Insurans (Malaysia) Berhad (the former entity of AmGeneral Insurance Berhad) was incorporated on 30th December 1978. Back then, it was known by another name - Industrial and Commercial Insurance. It established its present brand name, Kurnia Insurans in 1991. On 26th September 2012, AmBank Group and IAG International Pty Ltd (IAG) acquired 100% equity interest in Kurnia Insurans via AmG Insurance Berhad, and the combined businesses of AmG and Kurnia emerge as Malaysias general insurer and a clear market leader in motor insurance, delivering significant competitive advantage. The new entity for this combined business, AmGeneral Insurance Berhad (AmGeneral) continues to trade under its two trusted brands Kurnia Insurans and AmAssurance. These brands are the face of the company to its agents, customers and the general public. Underwriting around RM1.7 billion of insurance premiums each year, AmGenerals distribution channels include over 7,000 agents, supported by our extensive national branch network, as well as 188 AmBank branches across the country. Kurnia Insurans' success is founded on fair business practices, which protect the legitimate interests of its policyholders and offers business opportunities to its service providers. Serving more than 4 million customers, Kurnia Insurans offers extensive general insurance products and services, ranging from motor to commercial and personal lines insurance plans. With our strengthened market position, Kurnia Insurans stands as a pillar of the industry, representing stability and strength with exceptional product offering, distribution and customer service. With the liberalization of the Malaysian insurance market, Kurnia Insurans has undertaken several initiatives in expectation of rising market competition and industry challenges. One predominant move is strategizing towards differentiating Kurnia Insurans from its peers by providing superior customer service coupled with more value-added services to attract and satisfy customers. ISO 9001:2008 Kurnia was quick to embrace ISO requirements in early 1995. We adopted this world-class reference standard set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as the foundation for our operational systems. Kurnia was ISO 9002 certified by SIRIM in 1996. In 2009, we upgraded our compliance certification to ISO 9001:2008. Our continuous commitment to quality had enabled us to meet and surpass the requirements in this certification year after year. Compliance to this standard also serves to strengthen our compliance level to other industry related standards.

MALAYSIAS MOST VALUABLE BRAND (MMVB) Kurniawas awarded Malaysias Most Valuable Brand 2009 for the 3rd consecutive year with the brand value of RM139 million in a valuation study commissioned by 4As (Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia) and The Edge in November 2009. The award highlights the best branding practices and presents the most valuable brand as a role model for other companies. This recognition will encourage Kurnia to compete more confidently on the world stage by leveraging on the strength of our brand.

MALAYSIA BRAND EQUITY AWARD 2008 Kurnia won the Bronze in the Brand Leadership Award (BLA) under the Life and General Insurance Category by the Malaysia Brand Equity Award 2008. Kurnia is the only local established insurance brand to be awarded under this category. This award has given us an edge over our competitors in terms of media exposure and the experience of winning this has certainly encouraged us to strive further in our brand excellence practices.

In this light, we aim to maintain and improve on our competitive edge by providing value-added services to our customers and to strive to be the insurer of choice of our valued customers. Today, Kurnia has become a reliable and trusted homegrown brand among its 4 million policyholders. Our ability to connect the brand emotionally to the people has gained trust, create value and differentiate ourselves from others. Thus, generate accessibility and visibility. Kurnias workforce and strong agency force nationwide has brought us closer to the market whilst improving our brand awareness and to be better tuned to customers requirements and expectations.

Launched in October 2000, Kurnia Auto Assist (KAA) offers free 24-hours roadside assistance services. Apart from enjoying our 24-hours breakdown services, KAA members will also enjoy the value-added services, such as special rebates and discounts from a wide range of merchants nationwide. The KAA membership has grown significantly to 1 million today. KAA service is further enhanced in November 2008 with the deployment of KAA Riders on motorcycles in the Klang Valley. These riders will arrive at the breakdown scene within 15 minutes in the Klang Valley area to carry out repairs if possible. Otherwise, alternative arrangements will be made through the KAA call centre. The KAA Riders service is also extended to major towns of Penang, Johor and Malacca. As part of Kurnias value-added services, free SMS alert is an addition to our service improvement. SMS status notifications are sent when customers renew their motor policy or file a claim. The service also enables customers to rate Kurnias service quality and send feedback through SMS and make NCD enquiries. KAA can be contacted at 1-800-88-3833.

While agents continue to be the main premium generator to our business, Kurnia is developing its alternative channels by strengthening its call center. The company has also lined up innovative products to be introduced to the public to provide more comprehensive insurance coverage that meets the needs of different people. Among those that were launched was Perfect Rider, a specially designed protection plan that guards policyholders and their passengers while driving or riding, boarding or alighting from the named vehicle. Besides implementing internal improvements, Kurnia is also educating our policyholders to fully utilize our value-added services such as KE and KAA via the One Touch campaign. This is part of our pull-strategy to attract the public who are not insured with us to be Kurnias policyholders. Following the successful launch of Kurnia Mobile for iPhone users, Kurnia continues to further enhance its mobile technology for the convenience of its customers through the launch of its second mobile application called Kurnia One Touch. Being the first general insurer in Malaysia to launch its very own mobile application, Kurnia One Touch aims to reach out to its policyholders to further assist them in the event of any road emergency and to expedite the claims service. Kurnia One Touch is a free mobile application and is available for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.

Kurnia Express (KE) was launched on December 1, 2003 at the Hyatt Regency Saujana Resort, Subang Jaya. The service was re-launched at Manara Kurnia in November 2008 with additional features and enhancement. KE is an innovative service that enables comprehensive motor policyholders to immediately settle their claims either by cheque or direct deposit of cheque for Own Damage Claims, amount up to RM3,000. The Windscreen Claim service, of up to RM5,000 is also extended for policyholders who have their insurance coverage for windscreen. In addition to the launch of Kurnia Auto Assist (KAA) motorcycle riders, enhanced Kurnia Express (KE) and SMS alerts for our customers, KIMB has also embarked on new initiatives. KIMB has also introduced a new motor product extension, Compensation for Assessed Repair Time (CART), under the private car comprehensive motor policy. CART provides compensation to policyholders for the excess number of days the vehicle is being repaired at the workshop based on the loss adjusters assessment.

PRODUCTS

MOTOR When you buy a motor vehicle, you need to have a motor insurance. Kurnias basic motor policy protects against losses or damages to vehicles, third party bodily injuries and properties. Kurnias Private Car Comprehensive policy includes Kurnia Auto Assist (KAA), a free 24-hour service for breakdowns and accidents and Kurnia Express (KE), a 1-hour motor claims service, where you will receive immediate settlement at our designated Kurnia Express Centers.

PERSONAL ACCIDENT Kurnia offers a wide range of Personal Accident products that cater to the different needs and demands of our customers. Personal Accident insurance provides compensation in the event of death or disablement caused by accidental, violent, external and visible means. Coverage is available for individual, family or on group basis by employers, associations, clubs and similar groups. In general, the period of insurance coverage is on annual basis.

HOME Insures home, property and personal effects against fire, theft, natural disasters and accidental physical loss or damage. Available to private dwellings, houses, flats, garages and out-buildings depending on the type of coverage. Kurnias home protection plans include Fire Insurance, Houseowner and Householder Insurance as well as Householder Plus Insurance. Insurance for maids is also available to cover personal accident, repatriation expenses, hospital and surgical expenses, weekly benefits for temporary total disablement, fidelity guarantee and personal liability.

TRAVEL Kurnia Care Travel, Travellers Personal Accident and Travel Supreme safeguard the insured while they are on a vacation, excursion or a business trip. The policies extend from local activities to overseas travels, be it individually or in groups.

GOLF Our policy specially put together a total protection plan for golfers that covers public liability, personal accident, damage to golf equipment, buggy and even medical expenses for your caddy.

MEDICAL Proper healthcare is no longer a privilege, but a right for everyone as health insurance coverage is one of the key components of a sound financial plan and a necessity in view of the escalating medical cost. Kurnias MediGuard medical policy guarantees hassle-free admission and discharge for a covered condition at any of our panel hospitals nationwide. Alternatively, insured can opt for the reimbursement plan, with a lower premium, where the insured settles the bill upon discharge and submit for reimbursement for a covered condition. Kurnia has individual medical insurance products that are specially designed for everyone and anyone from all walks of life. In addition, Kurnia also customize Group Medical Insurance plan to cover employees medical expenses that suit the needs of the company.
