Topic: Multiple Intelligences Test Curriculum Framework Outcomes: n/a Specific Objectives/Learning Goals: At the end of this lesson, students should be able to develop an understanding of their relative strengths in relation to the seven intelligences of Word Intelligence, Logic and Maths Intelligence, Space and Vision Intelligence, Body Intelligence, Music Intelligence, People Intelligence, and Self Intelligence. Prior Learning: none Resources/Materials required: MICUPS test sheet, scoring instructions, A4 posters of the different intelligences, blue-tack
Lesson Steps
Time: 1 min Procedure 1. Introduction Greet students and ask them to take out a pen. Take the roll. 2. Teacher Input Discuss with students that we all learn in different ways i.e. some people are talented at music, some with words, some with maths, and some at sport. Display picture on the projector of someone with a different intelligence i.e. Einstein Inform students that we will be doing a brief quiz today to find out in which way they learn the best. Let them know that this is not a formal assessment and that its just something fun to find out how they learn. Ask for two volunteers to hand out MICUPS sheets. Ask them to write their names on the top of the sheet. Give instructions to class on how to take the test i.e. students need to read through each question and tick whether the statement is really true of them, sort of true of them, or not at all true of them. Work through question 1 as a group to illustrate how the quiz works. Inform students that they can raise their hand and ask me questions during the test if there is something that they dont understand. 3. Learning Activity 1 Students to take MICUPS test. 4. Teacher Input When students have finished the test, hand out the scoring sheet. Ask students to place the MICUPS quiz on the left of their desk and the scoring sheet on the right so they can look at both sheets at once. Project the scoring sheet on the board and explain the scoring instructions i.e. 3 points for every Really true of me response, 2 points for every Sort of true of me response, and 1 point for every Not true of me response. Explain that points need to be written on the table next to the relevant question. For example, look at the first item on the table question 3, look up your answer to question 3 and write either 3, 2, or 1 points in that box. Once several students have finished the Body Intelligence scores, show that the total for this needs to be added up. Inform students that after they have written in their scores for the questions, they can add their scores and get their body, music, people etc totals. Let students know that they may use a calculator if they need to. After they have calculated their totals, inform the students that they can write their scores in the table of highest to lowest scores. 5. Learning Activity 2 Students to complete the scoring sheet. Students who finish early can swap test sheets with the person next to them to check their calculations and see how they scored.
