Module Description EI8028: Electrical Machines

Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

Module Level: Master Credits:* 5

Language: English Total Hours: 150

Duration: one semester Self-study Hours: 105

Occurrence: winter semester Contact Hours: 45

* Number of credits can vary according to study program. Please see Transcript of Records.

Description of Achievment and Assessment Methods: written examination at the end of the semester Type of Assessment: written Duration of Assessment (min.): 60 Assessment Retake: Next semester

(Recommended) Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of electrical machines Content: Position dependent inductances, space vector description of electrical machines: fundamental wave and harmonic waves, force and torque calculation: fundamental torque and harmonic torques, laws of growth and scalability; General performance of electrical machines: rotating field machines (induction machine and electrically excited synchronous machine) , synchronous and asynchronous torques, windings: distributed windings and concentrated windings, permanent magnet excitation in electrical machines Intended Learning Outcomes: After completion of the module the students are able to deepend knowledge in the physical mode of operation and formation of torque in electromechanic converters. In additon, students are able to apply the achieved basic knowledge about electrical machines on particular types of machines and to describe the operating behaviour of these types of machines mathematically. Teaching and Learning Methods: "Additionally to the individual lerning methods of the students a more detailed knowledge development is assured by several tutorials, where problems are discussed and individually solved. As teaching method during lectures and tutorials classroom teaching is preferred. During tutorials also problems and exercises are provided (discussion, evaluation and analysis of e.g. simulation examples, solution statements, ...)."
