1 BACKGROUND !
We study twophase uid ow in a coupled free ow and porous media regions.!
3 METHODOLOGY!
In f , we assume that the two ow is governed by a coupled system of CahnHilliard Navier-Stokes equations.! For the porous media domain p, we assume that the ow is governed by mass balance equation and Darcys law. 1.Solve the Cahn-Hilliard equations with the semi-implicit method and nite element discretization to obtain n+1 and n+1 with a convex splitting scheme.! 2.With the obtained n+1 and n+1, the Navier-Stokes equations are solved with a P2P0 mixed nite element method. ! 3.The Darcys law is solved by IMPES method.! The Robin-Robin iterative method is used to decouple the system To couple the two ow systems, several transmission conditions are imposed on the interface boundary .
The problem arises in several industrial applications, such as well-reservoir coupling in petroleum engineering, uid-organ interactions and industrial ltering where a uid passes through a lter to remove unwanted particles. The model we use consists of a coupled CahnHilliard and Navier-Stokes equations for the free ow region and a two-phase Darcy law for the two-phase ows in the porous medium region.!
The velocity along the solid boundary saties the generalized Navier boundary condition (GNBC).
Given initial values f and p which may be taken to be zeroes. f and p are updated in the following manner:
where!
Static contact angle is 60 degree at interface and the top and bottom boundaries!
Static contact angle is 60 degree at interface and the top and bottom boundaries!
Static contact angle is 90 degree at interface and 120 degree at the top and bottom boundaries!
