NEBOSH

INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE (UK)


1.0 Course Introduction
The NEBOSH International General Certificate has been designed to provide an appropriate breadth of underpinning
knowledge for non-specialists in occupational health and safety to enable them to discharge more effectively their
organisational duties or functions with respect to workplace health and safety.
The Certificate has been designed for Safety Managers, Managers, Senior Engineers, Safety Engineers, Safety
Officers/advisors, Safety Professionals and others who require a fundamental knowledge and understanding of health and
safety principles and practices. Candidates are likely to be employees of organisations already working to international
standards but needing to adapt these to accord with local needs and practice
2.0 Course Outline

UNIT IGC1

Element 1 : Foundations In Health And Safety

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the scope and nature of occupational health and safety
¾ the moral, legal and economic reasons for promoting good standards of health and safety within an organisation
¾ the role of national governments and international bodies in formulating a framework for the regulation of H&S
¾ the basis of a system for managing health and safety
¾ the costs of failing to manage health and safety

Element 2 : Setting Policy For Health And Safety

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand:


¾ the importance of setting policy for health and safety
¾ the key features and appropriate content of an organisation’s health and safety policy

Element 3 : Organising For Health And Safety

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the health and safety roles and responsibilities of employers, managers, workers and other relevant parties

Element 4 : Promoting A Positive Health And Safety Culture


On completion of this Element, candidates will understand:
¾ the concept of health and safety culture and its various components
¾ how to assist in the development of a positive health and safety culture within an organisation
Element 5 : Health And Safety Risk Assessment
On completion of this Element, candidates will understand
¾ the process of risk assessment
¾ risk assessment recording and reviewing procedures
Element 6 : Principles Of Control In Health And Safety
On completion of this Element, candidates will understand:
¾ fundamental strategies for controlling hazards and reducing risk
¾ the various hazard control and risk reduction methods available
Element 7 : Monitoring, Review And Audit Of Health And Safety Performance

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ active and reactive health and safety monitoring procedures
¾ the scope and nature of a health and safety audit

Element 8 : Investigation, Recording And Reporting Of Health And Safety Incidents

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the need for an organisation to have a system for internally reporting, recording and investigating accidents, cases of
work-related ill-health and other occurrences
¾ local requirements for notifying certain events to external agencies

Element 1 : Movement Of People And Vehicles – Hazards And Control

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the hazards presented by the movement of people and vehicles, and the interaction between them
¾ the precautions necessary to control these hazards and to reduce the risks they present

Element 2 : Manual And Mechanical Handling Hazards And Control

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the hazards involved in the movement of loads by physical and mechanical effort
¾ the risk reduction and preventive measures available
¾ the risks involved in the use of lifting and moving equipment

Element 3 : Work Equipment Hazards And Control

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the hazards and risks from the use of work equipment
¾ the basic measures to be taken to minimise the risks

Element 4 : Electrical Hazards And Control

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the hazards and risks associated with the use of electrical equipment and systems operating at mains voltages
¾ the measures that should be taken to minimise the risks

Element 5 : Fire Hazards & Control

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand:


¾ basic fire hazards and consequential risks in the workplace
¾ the main measures that should be taken to minimise fire risks.

Element 6 : Chemical And Biological Health Hazards And Control

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the ill-health effects of exposure to chemical and biological hazards
¾ the options to control these hazards in the workplace

Element 7 : Physical And Psychological Health Hazards And Control

On completion of this Element, candidates will understand


¾ the ill-health effects of the physical process of work and of the working environment
¾ the available control options to combat these risks in the workplace

Element 8 : Construction Activities – Hazards And Control


On completion of this Element, candidates will understand
¾ the basic hazards and risks encountered in construction activities
¾ the measures to be taken to minimise the risks

5.0 Course Methodology
Exercises, group discussions combined with presentations of all the topics to international standards
6.0 Delegate Assessment
The method of assessment will be by two written examinations and a practical assignment.
7.0 Course Certificate
On successful completion of the course, delegates are awarded the International General Certificate from NEBOSH – UK.

8.0 Course Fee
• INR 55,000 (Indian Rupees Fifty Five Thousand) Per Candidate - Taxes Extra

9.0 Payment Terms
• Registration Fees: INR 30,000 payable on booking
• Balance Fees : INR 25,000 (plus taxes) payable on the first day of course
• Advance payment shall be forfeited if the participant does not appear for the course, however alternative nominations
is permitted

Assistance for candidate accommodation can be arranged at the cost of the candidates.
