Anggulo Level-Up: The Channel Journalism Competition 14th Regional Mid-Year Convention September 28, 2013 Theme: Dayaw

2013: Connecting Cultures through the Language of Business NARRATIVE REPORT In partnership with the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants Region V Council (NFJPIA-RVC), The Channel conducted a journalism competition dubbed as, Anggulo Level-up: The Channel Journalism Competition on September 28, 2013 (Saturday) at DWCL College Campus Rooms 105-106. With the publications advocacy of promoting free speech and transparency and channel of information to the student body, three campus journalism events were carried out namely News Writing, Feature Writing, and Photojournalism. Guidelines for News Writing stated that news shall be written on the contest date within the time span of 45 minutes using the English language and following the general rules for newswriting and headline writing. Cellphones, laptops, and other electronic device were not allowed during the competition proper. Each school was only allowed to send a maximum of two contestants. The criteria for juding were lead construction and angle of the story (40 %), coherence and paragraph sequencing (30%), use of news elements (20%), and grammar and technical writing skills (10%). The Channel Moderator Nora Gallano, Editor in Chief Geronimo Conmigo, and Associate Editor Baby Lyn Morota served as judges of the News Writing Competition. The Feature Writing Competition followed the same guidelines as the News Writing Competition. However, its criteria were relevance (35%), creativity and style (35%), coherence and paragraph sequencing (20%), and grammar and technical writing skills (10%). The Channel Moderator Nora Gallano, Managing Editor Jeric Bigueras, and Feature and Literary Editor Ma. Krsithel Lopez were the panel of the judges in the said competition. For the Photojournalism Competition, contestants were allowed to use either Digital SLR camera or digital camera and paid for the printing costs of four entries. They were given 30 minutes to capture photos within the Albay Public Market with the theme Reletionships. Another 15 minutes was allotted for captioning using the English language. The works were judged according to artistry/creativity including composition, use of visual elements, and style (30%), technical skills (30%), and impact and caption (40%) by The Channel Moderator Nora Gallano, Editor in Chief Geronimo Conmigo, Associate Editor Baby Lyn Morota, and Chief Photojournalist Gemma Ray Naz.
