Notice of issue-specific, open-floor and compulsory acquisition hearings

Notice is hereby given that issue-specific, open-floor and compulsory acquisition hearings will be held by the Examining Authority (appointed by the Secretary of State) for the examination of the application (the Application) by Thames Water Utilities Limited for a development consent order for the proposed Thames Tideway Tunnel (the Project). The Application was made under section 37 of the Planning Act 2008 on 27 February 2013 and accepted for examination by the Secretary of State on 27 March 2013. The Application relates to the construction and operation of a wastewater storage and transfer tunnel in London which, together with shafts, connection tunnels and associated development, will enable the interception of flows from 34 existing combined sewer overflows (CSOs) and the transfer of those flows for treatment in order to tackle untreated sewage overflowing into the tidal River Thames. The Project comprises the following elements: a) wastewater storage and transfer tunnels between: (i) Thames Waters existing operational sites at Acton Storm Tanks in Ealing and Abbey Mills Pumping Station in Newham (the main tunnel). The main tunnel would run from Acton Storm Tanks to the River Thames and then underneath the river as far as Rotherhithe, where it would divert to the north east via the Limehouse Cut, terminating at Abbey Mills Pumping Station; (ii) King Georges Park in Wandsworth and the proposed main tunnel site at Carnwath Road Riverside in Fulham (the Frogmore connection tunnel); (iii) Thames Waters existing operational site at Greenwich Pumping Station and the proposed main tunnel site at Chambers Wharf in Southwark (the Greenwich connection tunnel); b) shafts to be used for the construction, operation and maintenance of the main tunnel and the Frogmore and Greenwich connection tunnels; c) CSO drop shafts, short connection tunnels and associated development for the interception of flows from existing CSOs and the diversion of those flows into the main tunnel or the connection tunnels; d) works to modify Thames Waters existing Shad Thames Pumping Station at Maguire Street in Southwark, provision of a shaft and modifications to the existing sewer at Bekesbourne Street in Tower Hamlets and works to drain the tunnels at Beckton Sewage Treatment Works; and e) Associated development to facilitate construction, operation and maintenance of the tunnels and shafts described above.

At each open-floor hearing, each interested party is entitled (subject to the Examining Authoritys powers of control over the conduct of the hearing) to make oral representations about the application
