David Mas Masumoto grows peaches, nectarines, grapes, and raisins on an organic 80-acre farm south of Fresno. His writing awards include the Commonwealth Club Silver medal, the Julia Child Cookbook award, and the James Clavell Literacy Award. His book Wisdom of the Last Farmer was honored by the National Resources Defense Council. He has served as chair of the California Council for the Humanities. Masumoto is currently a board member of the James Irvine Foundation and serves on the Statewide Leadership Council to the Public Policy Institute of California. In 2013 he joined the NEAs National Council on the Arts. New from the Masumoto family is the The Perfect Peach, a collection of recipes and stories from the farm. Luis Herrera is the City Librarian of the San Francisco Public Library, where he is responsible for the administration of the citys 28 libraries. Previously, Mr. Herrera served as the Director of Information Services for Pasadena Public Library, the Deputy Director of the San Diego Public Library, and Associate Director of the Long Beach Public Library in California. In January 2012, Mr. Herrera was named the Library Journals Librarian of the Year. Mr. Herrera serves as Chair of the California Council for Humanities and was appointed to serve on the Steering Committee for the Digital Public Library of America in 2011. He served on the Library Advisory Board of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation from 1998 to 2002.
