STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Self-made business man my father always seems to do more than is required and possible. When most would give up he do go that extra mile and that has helped him to grow and prosper. My elder sister and I imbibed this and I have seen my sister too do extra and benefit. So, doing your job well and then doing something more comes naturally to me. It is this need that my upbringing has imbibed that I believe will enable me to achieve excellence in all that I want to take up.

I know this and so while most other focus on doing well in academics I have spread myself into doing well academically, in projects, technical events and also extra-curricular activities. I have not always managed to balance everything perfectly, but I have learnt both from my successes and also from the few mistakes. It is through this four year journey of growing that I have found that my career I want to build is in Mobile Computing. This desire has emerged initially due to subjects I took and what I learnt and acquired through the other activities.

I have always been doing well in my academics. I have acquired 84.43% in my 10 th standard from Asia English School. I have acquired 76% in my 12th standard from Asia English School. I have completed my Bachelors in Computer Engineering with 7.88 SPI in final semester and 7.36 CGPA, from Hasmukh Goswami College of Engineering, affiliated to Gujarat Technological University. I participated in many cultural as well as sports activities during my schooling as well as during my graduation. I was also selected as member of Event Management Committee of my graduation college. My role was to manage our colleges cultural and technical festival which was quite an enriching experience. During my final year project in BE, I worked on developing a website for a Co-operative Society.

Therefore, I wish to study a post-graduate course in Business Information Management and Systems offered by La Trobe University, Melbourne. There is a dearth of professionals working in the field of IT and an international qualification in this field would really boost my career prospects. Due to the lack of trained professionals in this area, it is very expensive to study this course in India. Moreover, this course is a combination of IT as well as Management, which is not covered in course that is available in India. Although there are few institutions offering a course in IT, however, the combination of IT and Management is not available in India. This course offered by La Trobe University will provide me with an understanding of both theory and practice of IT along with the knowledge, competencies and processes within the field of

Management. This course will provide an opportunity to develop a research design, perform critical analysis and present the result of an investigation in a formal manner.

I opted for La Trobe University because I found a course suitable to my liking. It was ranked as one of the worlds top universities in the Times Higher Education Supplement (UK) 2005. It was ranked among Australias top 10 universities. Academic standards at La Trobe University are high, with research and teaching programs that provide intellectual stimulating education. It has sufficient student-to-staff ratio. The La Trobe University Community consists of 3000 international students from over 90 countries. This will give me an opportunity to interact with people from different parts of the world. I wanted to get higher degree from a well-known and reputed University from overseas, so I selected Australia as my first preference as it is a beautiful country which is rising and developing rapidly in the field of Technology. Australia has an international reputation for excellence in all areas of education and training. Australia has limited crime and political unrest and is a safe English speaking country, which gives international students an opportunity to learn and travel safely. Living expenses and tuition costs in Australia are considerably lower than in the UK and USA. Also I have heard that people in Australia are very friendly and kind, which compelled me to choose Australia for my higher studies.

I have also applied for Monash University, which is among the best universities for technology in Melbourne, Australia. It was founded in 1958 and is the second oldest university in the state. Monash is a member of Australia's Group of Eight and the ASAIHL. Monash enrolls approximately 39,000 undergraduate and 16,000 graduate students, making it the university with the largest student body in Australia. It also has more applicants than any university in the state of Victoria. Monash is home to major research facilities, including the Australian Synchrotron, the Monash Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct (STRIP), the Australian Stem Cell Centre, 100 research centers and 17 co-operative research centers. In 2008, Monash University attracted more than $210 million of research investment and grants from various Government bodies and external organizations. I have applied for Master of Business Information Systems Professional in Monash University and waiting for my approval.

Upon completion of my study in Australia, I am looking forward to return to India and explore the employment opportunities here. India has become a major IT hub in recent years and has become one of the most preferred countries for business investment. As highlighted before, there is a lack of IT professionals, I expect to carve a niche for myself in this ever-changing and fast developing IT field with an international qualification gained from Australia which itself is well regarded and highly developed in the IT sector.
