NATIONAL DESEXXING MONTH A SUCCESS Traralgon Veterinary Centre participated as part of the National Desexing Networks National Desexing Month in July, providing discounted desexings to our communitys low income earners holding a healthcare or pension card. We have made many new friends as a result and have received an overwhelming amount of gratefulness from the participating members of our community. We are happy to announce that the clinic will be participating again in 2014.

CANINE LEPTOSPIROSIS AND CORONAVIRUS VACCINE! Traralgon Vet Centre now stocks canine Leptospirosis and Coronavirus vaccines (Canine C2i), which can be added to your pup or dogs yearly vaccination schedule. Leptospirosis is a rare but sometimes fatal bacterial disease which causes multi-organ failure in dogs. It is most commonly carried by rats, mice and cows in our area. The bacteria are transmitted to dogs, and even humans, by contact with urine of these animals. Most dairy cows in our area are vaccinated with 7 in 1 and are unlikely to be a source of infection, however dogs on BEEF FARMS may not be protected. We have seen 3 cases of Lepto in the last 18 months and in one case there was no history of contact with cows, this dog may have caught it from a rat or mouse. Coronavirus is a diarrhoea virus that can cause watery diarrhoea in young animals. It can cause losses in young litters of puppies and this therefore may be a beneficial vaccine to add into the vaccination schedule of breeding bitches. Talk to our vets if you are interested in getting this vaccine for your dog.

WILDLIFE WARNING! Lately we have had a large number of infant wildlife handed in to the clinic. Remember, always check the pouches of road kill. Keep the animal warm, as covered and quiet as possible and seek advice IMMEDIATELY. WELCOME TO THE TEAM! Traralgon Veterinary Centre would like to welcome Emily Lawrey as our new receptionist and veterinary assistant as well as our TWO NEW VETERINARIANS Dr. Catherine Tuckwell and Dr. Jocelyn Todd. Catherine and Jocelyn are treating both small and large animals at Traralgon Vet Centre and both have a keen interest in cattle and horses.

With warmer weather approaching, adding sunflower oil to the diet of a pet prone to skin allergies may help their condition.
