Meinrad is a consulting firm that helps companies market and sell products and services to hotels and hotel 
companies in the United States and Canada. Meinrad creates hotel industry database marketing solutions that
integrate data, analysis, strategy, tactics and field executions. Meinrad multiplies the effectiveness of client
marketing and sales resources through strategic focus and disciplined tactical account management processes.

1989 – 1990  PROFESSIONAL SABBATICAL YEARS ABROAD – Guatemala City, Guatemala; Angers, France. 
After leaving Hotels and Resorts of Distinction, the Heck family moved to Guatemala for three months and to 
France for a year. There was wonderful family time, and much time spent drafting nine separate business plans and 
teaching.

1975 – 1988  HOTELS OF DISTINCTION, INC., Boston, MA: Principal, Executive VP & GM The Copley Plaza.
This firm managed multi­million dollar hotel operations that collectively represented more than 3,000 employees, 
including its flagship hotel, Boston’s Grande Dame, THE COPLEY PLAZA, now a Fairmont Hotel, for owner John 
Hancock. Other hotels in the portfolio included 450­room Albuquerque Hilton in Albuquerque, NM, the 385­room 
Back Bay Hilton, Boston, MA and the 700­room Le Grand Hotel, now a Delta Hotel, Montreal, Quebec. Other 
portfolios included the Biltmore Plaza, Providence, RI, Hotel Park Tucson, Tucson, AZ,  Palm Court Hotel, Palm 
Beach, FL and Inn At Loon Mountain, NH.
RESORTS OF DISTINCTION, INC., Principal, Executive VP 
This firm owned and operated resort hotels including the Cape Codder Hotel, Falmouth, MA and the Cotton Bay 
Club and Winding Bay Hotel, Eleuthera, The Bahamas

As the Executive VP of two management firms with first class and luxury hotel portfolios, general management 
responsibilities included multi­year operating and capital budgets, interim forecasts, integrated marketing, sales and 
advertising plans and budgets, hotel acquisitions, design and renovation management, personnel planning, labor 
management and contract negotiations, menu designs, wine acquisition, quality assurance and owner relations.

Salvation Army is a worldwide Evangelical Christian Church, human service agency and non­profit

An organization of Newton citizens, just like you who are all in agreement that it's time to fix Newton's

Hotel Technology Solutions, Inc., d/b/a Lorica Solutions, Buffalo, NY: Board of Directors since 2007.
Lorica is the emerging leader in converged, managed IP networks for the hospitality industry, founded to 
capitalize on three key trends in hospitality: Increasing number of guest­facing technology applications; 
Hoteliers’ realization that aging networks and minimal internal resources are ill­equipped to handle the 
explosion in bandwidth intensive guest applications; and, Hoteliers’ desire to reduce cost and contract with one

NTxA is a non­profit, non­partisan fiscal watchdog organization. Founded in 1936, its goal has always been to

Forest Hills is a private 275­acre “rural garden cemetery” of timeless beauty established in 1848 in Boston. 
Forest Hills is blessed with a splendid historic landscape, abundant birds, geologic marvels, and the most

OSV is the largest history museum in the Northeast. The museum re­creates the daily work activities and 
community celebrations of a rural 19th­century town in authentic living history fashion.
Anthony Spinazzola Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Boston. MA: Co­founder, director 1986­92.
Anthony Spinazzola was The Boston Globe's restaurant critic and first ever wine critic, positions he held for 
nearly 20 years before his untimely death. With the direction of co­founder Burt Miller, a Newton resident and 
proprietor of Classic Wines and BLM, the assistance of Boston's food and wine legends, Boston University and 
the Spinazzola family, the first Anthony Spinazzola Gala Festival of Food and Wine was held at Boston 
University in 1986. This annual event led to the creation of the Anthony Spinazzola Foundation in 1992.
Charles Fredy Wine Internship & Kobrand Challenge, Boston, MA: Co­founder, director 1986­89.
This paid, two­month summer internship included several weeks in the Rhone, Champagne, Burgundy, and 
Bordeaux regions. BU School of Hospitality Administration students competed for the internship by writing a 
paper, and then presenting and defending the paper before a panel of Boston hoteliers and restaurateurs.  
New England Historic Seaport, Boston, MA: Director 1976­1992.

 The Seaport provided sail training experiences at sea for young people on a variety of ships, and provided 
navigation and ship building workshops at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston. After several years in 
planning, fundraising and construction, the Seaport launched the Spirit of Massachusetts, a 125’ schooner 
modeled after the 1889 Fredonia, at the Charlestown Navy Yard in 1984.  The Spirit served as the Seaport’s 
principal sail training ship, cruising New England waters during summers and the Caribbean during winters.
Massachusetts Center Repertory Company, Boston, MA: Board of Directors 1976­77.
Under the artistic direction of Janice Cashell, this start­up equity repertory  company produced The Dance of  
Death with Colleen Dewhurst and Ben Gazzara, Long Day's Journey into Night with José Ferrer and Kate Reid 
and Candida with Eva Marie Saint and Fritz Weaver, all at the Schubert Theater. The first season was a valiant 
effort. There was no second season.
