Sheet.2-Collection Works s
1- Write short note on: - The Sources of water in nature and discuss` its characteristics. - Different types of intakes. - The factors governing the choice of the location, type and design of intake Structure. 2 - Draw flow line for Collection works for surface water pointing out the purpose of each unit. 3- Draw a sketch for an intake structure designed for River Nile as a water source with wide width showing all details. 4- Draw a sketch for a tower intake showing all necessary details. 5- it is required to design the intake conduit of the water collection works for a city of the Following data: Population = 360,000 capita. Average water consumption = 200 l/c/d (constant with project period) Annual population rate of increase = 1.8 % Design period is 40 years Then draw a neat sectional elev. For the designed intake if the source is a wide river with polluted shore, showing all necessary details. 6- Water has to be supplied to a city of population of 575,000 Capita at the rate of 250 lit / cap./ day from a canal of 1200 m a way from a reservoir . The difference in elevation between the lowest water level in the sump and reservoir is 22.0 m if the demand has to supplied in 12 hours Determine the diameter of the rising main and the horsepower of the pumps required , Assume maximum demand as 1.5 times the average demand , f = 0.0075 and velocity in pipes is 1.5 m/sec. 7 For an intake conduits of 5 pipes each of diameter 300mm. it is required to obtain the maximum population could be served by it if average water consumption = 200 l/c/d. 8 - A water treatment plant feeds a city of 250,000 person as a design population, taking its raw from a navigable canal with H.W.L. at (14.50), L.W.L. at (12.25), bed level at (8.50), G.L. at (16.00), and road level at (17.50). If the average water consumption is 180 l/c/d, the inlet water level of the mixing tank at WTP is (23.00), and the length of raw water line between P.S. and mixing tank is 120 m. It is required to: a- Choose and design a suitable type of intake including the pipes.

b- Determine the dimensions of the raw water P.S. suction well, having the following data: - Total number of pumps is six including 50% spare and reserve pumping capacity. - Spacing between C.L.s of pumps is 2.5 m. - Plant is operated 24 hours/day. d- Redesign the intake conduits and suction well if the operating hours are reduced to 16 hours/day. 9- Design the intake conduits in water treatment plant with four low lift pumps each with capacity 100 l/s and head 15 m, operated 24 hours per day. Three pumps are on duty at maximum flow, one at minimum flow, and one is standby. 10 - What are the types of wells which used in collection works for Ground water, and the factors which affecting in each type. 11 - A well of 15 fully penetrates a confined aquifer 25 m deep after a long period of pumping at rate of 2000 m3 /day. the draw downs. in the wells at 25 and 50 m from the pumping well are found to be 2.2 and 1.8 m respectively Determine the transmissibility of the aquifer and Whats the draw down in the pumped well . 12- A well 3.5 m in diameter has a normal water level of 4.0 m below ground level. By pumping the water level in the well is depressed to 11.0 m below ground level in a time interval 2.5 hours the water level rises by 5.0 m calculate the specific yield of the wel l. Whats the safe yield of the well if the working depression head is 5.0m .
