HIDALGO & HIDALGO Page 4 of 5 2.0 PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION: This section represents the engineering and application considerations that are inherent in the design and operation of the equipment. 2.1 BELT CONVEYOR RECOVERY SYSTEM: The belt conveyor recovery system consists of a belt conveyor mechanism with metering hoppers, steel bar grating, and heavy duty drive systems. Spent abrasive falls through the grating and is guided by steel shed plates to the belt conveyor. The belt conveyor collects and delivers the abrasive media to a vertical bucket elevator. The abrasive is elevated and discharged into an air abrasive cleaner which cleans, and returns reusable media to a pressure blast machine. 2.2 MEDIA CLEANING AND CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM: Proper reclaim and classification of the blast media is important to the efficiency and repeatability of the cleaning process. The reclaim and classification systems have been developed over many years of research and field experience to provide the most efficient reclaim for reusable media, and separation of non-recyclable media as well as dust and debris. 2.3 PRESSURE BLAST EQUIPMENT: The pressure blast machine is designed for this intended purpose and is manufactured by Clemco Industries, who is the holder of the ASME certificate of compliance. The vessel is designed in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 requirements for unfired pressure vessels. The machine allows for automatic filling of media when the vessel is depressurized. Closure of the filling valve entails a rubber to rubber seal to ensure a leak-proof seal. An inverted semi-elliptical head is used in the top section to allow storage of media for entry into the vessel and a toriconical head is used for the lower section to allow smooth even flow of media to the metering valve. A 6" x 8" handhole is provided for maintenance and inspection access. All air piping is 1-1/4" inside diameter to minimize air restriction and ensure pressure loss is kept to a minimum. The machine is fitted with remote control valves that allow the operator to start and stop the blasting process from the nozzle as well as causing the blast action to stop should the operator accidentally drop the nozzle. The adjustable media flow control valve is mounted at 45 degrees to the air stream for minimal turbulence as media enters into the blast stream. 2.3.1 BLAST HOSE: The blast hose is light weight for maneuverability, and is coupled with externally mounted hose couplings to prevent turbulence and reduce wear. The blast hose and coupling combination is static dissipating and is grounded to the blast machine. 2.3.2 BLAST NOZZLE: The blast nozzle is manufactured by Clemco Industries. The nozzle is a venturi design to offer higher exit velocities and is carbide lined to offer long wear and durability. 2.4 OPERATOR SAFETY EQUIPMENT: The operator protective helmet is made of high density polyethylene construction and provides even distribution of air flow for operator comfort. Compressed air supply to the helmet is temperature controlled by the operator with belt mounted controls. Operator protective coveralls are provided made from breathable cotton fabric with leather front facing. Leather gloves are also provided. Breathing air is supplied through an air filter to remove mist and particulate. The safety equipment is manufactured by Clemco Industries and is a NIOSH approved system. 2.5 DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM: The dust collection system is of Clemco Industries' own design and manufacture. It is a dry cartridge type system with continuous on-line cleaning by high velocity compressed air jets. The system is supplied with an appropriately sized high capacity exhauster and pulse jet valves and electrical controls. The system is designed and built for efficient operation and is the result of years of research and experience in dust collection systems for the abrasive blast cleaning industry. 2.6 ELECTRICAL CONTROL PANEL: The control panel for the blast cleaning facility is designed and manufactured in accordance with appropriate N.F.P.A. 79 and N.E.M.A 12 and 13 specifications and is suitable for either UL or CSA approval.
