Bibliotheca Alexandrina Introduction: CE1.

1 Bibliotheca Alexandrina (English: Library of Alexandria) is major library and cultural center located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea in the Egyptian city of Alexandria. It is both a commemoration of the Library of Alexandria that was lost in antiquity and an attempt to rekindle something of the brilliance that this earlier center of study. CE1.2 I have been working in Integrated Office Systems (IOS) since March 2001 as an electronic service engineer. In January 2002 our company won a tender to provide the library with three Color Laser Copiers, four Book Copiers, six Mid Volume Photocopiers, one high volume Photocopier and a book binder. I and another colleague were responsible for installation and full operation of all machines before the opening date which was officially inaugurated on October 16, 2002. Background of the project: CE1.3 After a few months in IOS, I have become one of the prominent engineers in Alexandria branch. I have given the responsibility to take care of Oce machines which are Dutch origin beside Selex machines which are Japanese. I have to manage installation, training, maintenance and servicing of various equipments types and help other junior engineers if they face technical or administrative problems. CE1.4 I also have the responsibility to assign and manage the installation orders from sales department, daily service calls and schedule the maintenance visits as per the service contract. CE1.5 I am responsible to train and develop a team of trained junior engineers. This new leadership role has opened a lot of opportunities for me to learn and acquire new skills. I am responsible for warranty, maintenance and contract cost control management. I have implemented cost cutting measures to reduce the part replacement cost by local repair or to buy from other resources. I have assisted and participated in service sales opportunities such as service contract renewals, demonstration of new models and upgrades of old machines by all of these I have helped our company to raise its annual profits. CE1.6

During my work, our organization won a big order to install new digital and analogue systems from Alexandria library. These equipments are first of its kind in the entire Egypt and a Dutch engineer came to train and help our team installing these devices. We bagged order for the installation of seven digital black photocopiers Oce 3165 (mid volume 62 paper /min), three digital color laser copiers (two mid volumes and one high volume), four analogue book copiers Oce 3060 and high volume analogue machine Oce 3100(100 paper/min) connected to a book binder machine Oce BB2008 . Our company had assigned me as the project in charge because I have the expertise to do the commissioning and installation of the complete system. CE1.7 The machines that will be installed in the library printshop consist of: 1. The high volume black copier. 2. The book binder. 3. One mid volume black copier. 4. One high volume digital color laser copier that will work as printer and copier. 5. One mid volume digital color laser copier that will work as copier. CE1.8 The high volume black copier should be connected to the book binder which can bind books automatically or offline binding using glue. The covers used in binding come from color laser copier printed on heavy paper to be used as a book cover. By these arrangements the library produces most of their publication, booklet, pamphlet, leaflet and bulletin for seminars, workshop and conference on our machines. The rest of the machines have been distributed on every department allover the library. CE1.9 All installation steps are provided as released procedures and documentations from Oce service manuals. Later on 2011, the library engineering administration demanded to upgrade one of the mid volume copier Oce3165 to be working as printer and scanner also. I have adapted the procedures to match our customer regulations and requirements. Adaptation included, engine software, upgrade hardware and software applications used by each user on the network. After finalizing the adaptation I tested the whole system to ensure that all function are working probably. Personal Engineering Activity: CE1.10 Once I had taken the charge of the project, I had collected all the documents regarding the project. I went through in depth of the tender

document and the purchase order to understand the various terms and condition regarding the project execution. The project execution is consisting of following steps: 1. Pre-installation stage (site preparation, room layout plan, electrical power requirements and floor preparation). 2. Installation stage (transport and delivery of equipment as per the schedule, commissioning, calibration, quality check and handing over the system). 3. Post-installation stage (after finish warranty customer entered a full maintenance contract include labor +spare parts. Pre-installation stage: CE1.11 I discussed the detailed room layout, structural strength and the electrical requirements with the site construction engineer and the site electrical engineer for the installation of our systems. I made the room plan in coordination with our design coordinator and got the approval from the customer site engineer. I also calculated the maximum power requirement chose the appropriate power cable and circuit breaker (type and size) and furnished the detailed electrical drawing to the electrical engineer and the same is duly approved. CE1.12 I also contacted with the Information Technology department to assign ip address and network cables for our digital machines so that all of offices connected via network can print directly on our systems and can scan to folder on a destination computer. CE1.13 I arranged several meetings with the Air-conditioning engineer and furnished the heat output from our machines to choose the correct A/C unit to maintain the ambient environment for the system operation. I had coordinated with the design co coordinator and finalized the electrical distribution panel design and the same design is implemented in the site. CE1.14 After the prior approval from the concerned, I had submitted the approved room layout to safety department for further approval for any safety compliance. The safety officers visited the site and

certified that the site is in compliance with the safety procedures of the country and the site. CE1.15 After contacting the site engineer, I recommended anti-static vinyl flooring to make the printshop working area free from static electric discharge. CE1.16 The cables conduits on floors and ceiling are designed to route the High voltage cables, earth wires and electrical cables in one slot and the low voltage communication and other data cables in the other slot. It is mainly done to reduce the effect of noise induced by the power cable on communication and data cables. Installation stage: CE1.17 Mechanical and electrical installation: The mid volume copier come in one big chasses engine on one pallet plus some separate parts which have to assemble together control panel ,finisher or sorter and covers. Alignment and CE1.18 As for high volume copier, it comes in 5 separate pallets which have to be attached and alignment together by following the installation steps. Also the binder comes in several pallets which have to be connected together mechanically and electrically. CE1.19 After that, Connecting to electricity and check up all of the machines functions and make the needed adjustments and tests, install printer and scanner drivers and software for digital copiers to the completion of installation. CE1.20 I face a problem for book copier was an old regular copier model which has been transfer to be a book copier. The new modification come with two more option a leg paddle to use it as a copy switch to keep the hand of the operator free to hold old books and copy charge device so that library reader cop copy their own books using coins or prepaid card. CE1.21

I had to look through the service manual and the attached circuit diagram to see where to connect these device sockets to the main control board. Then, test the functionality of the whole system and made all the required calibration and adjustment. Post-installation stage: CE1.22 The library signs a full maintenance contract with our company after the one year warranty finished. I was responsible to replay service calls and diagnose the fault wither it is mechanical or electrical and to prepare suspected faulty spare parts that may need to be replaced and check with our Alexandrias store if they got what I want or I have to order them from our head office in order to solve the problem in shortest time and commit to the contract response time.

CE1.23 in 2009,I was responsible for installation of a new digital machine Oce varioprint 2110 which give the ability to scan, print and copy in one device with incredible image quality especially halftone. During installation face a problem concerning copy quality which was uneven on both side of the copied page. After doing some test prints and doing some diagnostic procedure and by following the service manual, I discover that there was bent on one of the print head metal guide which left the head up than the usual from the rear side. I readjust the guide so that the print head lay well on it home position and consequently I got the right copy quality that expected from this machine.

In 2011, I also was responsible to install 5 new machines Oce 3165 in different departments due to their new increased demand for coping, printing and scanning.
