Materials & Prerequisites

1. One Blank/Empty 8GB USB Flash Drive 2. One Blank/Empty CD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW 3. Access to the JBossInst folder on Elvis: JBossInst 1. Contact Will Dinyes (wdinyes@redhat.com) or Lamon Gray (lgray@redhat.com) for help with access.

Building the Flash Drive and CD-ROM

Create the Flash Drive
First, you will need to format your flash drive to mount as JBossInst (this is required for the automated installation process for the classroom). To format the drive on RHEL, determine the partion for the flash drive (for instance, /dev/sdb), and run: /sbin/mkfs -t vfat -F 32 -n JBossInst /dev/sdb Note that the last entry, the partition for your flash drive, may be different from the above example. If you are formatting on Windows, please refer to your Windows documentation to format the partition as FAT32, with a label of JBossInst.

Load the Software

If you have access to elvis.redhat.com (which should be the case by this point), get a copy of the sync.sh (or sync.bat, if you are building the classroom USB on Windows), and copy it to the root of your 8GB flash drive. Change directory to the root of your flash drive, and run: sh sync.sh [elvis-username],[elvis-password]

Note that this process may take some time to run, as you will be downloading nearly 8GB of files to your flash drive. Additionally, the "," between the username and password is vital.

Create the CD-ROM

Once you have completed the download, burn the RHCI image, found in the courses directory, to a CD. You now have the JBoss Classroom installation ready to go!

Installing the Classroom

Follow the instructions in the Classroom Instructions, also available in the root directory of your USB flash drive. It is highly recommended that you attempt the installation at least once prior to class. If you do not have access to hardware, we have instructions available for creating a test JBoss Classroom environment using VirtualBox, which you might find useful.

Getting Updates
Updates to the software for JBoss classes may be obtained by running the same sync.sh (or sync.bat) script as used when creating the Flash Drive. Note that the "archives" directory is still available for older versions of the courseware, but that it is generally not integrated with the overall JBoss Classroom installation process (that is, you will have to manage unzipping of the files, or installing the RPMs manually).
