Nicole Lopez WRD-103 Reflective Letter Prior to attending DePaul University, I was always ecstatic when it came to writing

an essay of some sort. Sometimes I would care what the topic was but most of the time it did not matter. This excitement towards writing was only from my freshman year through my junior year at Golder College Prep. After junior year, I really did not care for writing because of I had developed a horrible case of senioritis. During this time, I had no motivation to write any type of essay, so I strongly believe I had lost my skills in writing. Today, I am a student at DePaul University currently enrolled in a course named WRD-103 (Composition and Rhetoric I.) I clearly remember the first day of this class; I was not excited at all, and the thought of putting my fingers on a keyboard to type an essay rather than a Twitter tweet just bothered me. Most of my professors for other classes really did not win me over. However, the professor for WRD-103, Professor Katie Brown, came off very different than them. Professor Brown was very excited and just caught, as I observed, almost every students attention. Professor Brown brings life to the classroom, which makes a class more interesting and better. I have always had good luck with getting awesome English teachers. I feel as if that is one of the reasons why English remains to be my favorite subject. In WRD-103, the class received their first assignment, which was the Diagnostic essay. As the course went on, we received our fifth assignment, the Editorial essay. The topic of the Editorial was English becoming the official language of the United States of America. I had a variety of opinions and several of thoughts for this essay, so I decided to make an outline to put bring all my ideas together. After the outline, I typed up a rough draft. The way I felt towards this rough draft was negative. I did not feel confident at all in my piece of work even though I had my mind over flowing with thoughts. The following WRD-103 class, we were peer-editing each others Editorial essays. I was put in a group with two of my classmates, and they reminded me of how important it is to make drafts and have others, peers, edit your essay. I received excellent, surprising feedback; I say surprising because of how poorly written I thought my essay was. After this class period, I continued working on my essay but this time with the help of my peers comments and feedback. The outcome of this process was a great grade! As I go on in WRD-103, I hope to grow stronger in my writing. I want to continue to peer-edit since it is such a great resource when it comes to composing an essay. I also now try to peer-edit to best of my ability rather than just marking the paper with a smiley face or a simple good. I wrote my final draft of the Editorial essay trying to follow what Professor Brown suggested. I hope I improved on the final Editorial essay, and I also hope to improve on future essays.
