Qualities of Instructor which contributed to success of the course. Jennifer is lively and enthusiastic. She was approachable, understanding, and went above and beyond to meet the needs of each individual student. The best TA Ive had thus far at UF.

Qualities of Instructor which hindered success of the course.

Opinions of course, including printed materials. This course was challenging, but I learned a lot. The printed materials werent as useful as the instruction by the professor and TA.

Additional comments to improve overall quality of the course.

Any other comments.

No. Jennifer did a wonderful job.

Jennifer went above and beyond all expectations I had. I cannot think of anything to improve the quality of her teaching.

Jenn actually cares about her students and wants them to succeed which translates into the way she teaches. She relates things on both the student level and to current happenings. Also, she makes class actually enjoyable while teaching us the max amount.

Nothing she did hindered my success in this course.

I think this is an amazing course taught by very well qualified professionals. The textbook is easy to read and understand while still getting the facts out there. The alternative readings give a different viewpoint to the subject. They can be dull and boring, but overall are good. Ms. Lyon has been a great TA this semester. She is very helpful inside and outside the classroom. She is very good at her job because she loves what she is dong and you can see that when she teaches us in our sections. I hate history. It is the most boring subject EVER. I love listening to Jenn and Dr. Noll because they tell history like a story whereas the textbook just lists a bunch of dates and facts. readings were not interesting (especially Slavery by Another Name)

She was very down to earth and young so she knew what I was going through. She also explained things in laymens terms so it was really easy to understand.

She was really friendly and open to students!! She was great at getting group discussions going and just really nice and easy to talk to! She also really cared for us and went the extra mile helping us prepare for the exams and reviewing our papers!! :) Ms. Jenn was very enthusiastic, humorous and encouraging which helped students to engage in the learning and make this course a success. Ms. Lyon is an excellent communicator and has an extraordinary ability to relate information to students. Even more so, she translates material to engaging sets of material that challenges and provokes discussion.

No!! :)

I loved the course and learning about our countrys history!! :)

Nothing that I can think of!! I thought the class was great! :)

Great Class, Great Teacher!! :)

N/A

I hold a very high opinion of this class as well as the discussion period which Ms. Lyon facilitated. Excellent material, excellent instructors - great class.

Ms. Lyon was hands down the best TA I have ever/will ever have.

I had a blast in this class and discussion group as there was never a dull moment. History is intriguing at face value but what developed this course into a top notch experience was the relative depth into which the history was analyzed . Patterns and underlying currents were exposed that added great depth. One thing I am sure of is that Ms. Lyon will be outstanding whether she continues historical research, teaching or both. I cannot say enough about how much I appreciated the skill and willingness to help Ms. Lyon provided. If this evaluation carries any weight in her future employment at the University of Florida, then Ms. Lyon is a cant-miss investment that you would be CRAZY not to try and keep her in Gainesville!

She is the best TA Ive had here at UF. She is so enthusiastic and genuinely cares about her students. She makes learning fun and painless, her expectations are not too high, and she does everything she can to help her students. I wish I had her as my TA every semester. she wants her students to do well and you can tell that. she is personable, guiding and will go out of her way to help. she understands and can relate to undergrad students. she gives advice on jobs and other life lessons other than history and relates stories back to personal references so we have a bigger picture of whats going on.

none.

after the fact is dry but good. perhaps WFC 2 is not the best source for this class. the authors in the textbook are not the greatest.

keep providing help with the IDs!

best TA ever.

Jen was one of the best TAs I have had since being here! I actually looked forward to going to the discussion section every week knowing that I would take away a lot of helpful information from that class. Jen was well versed in the subject matter, and she taught it in such a way that made everything we learned in the class relatable and memorable. She was always willing to explain things in different lights to help students understand, and if they still were not grasping a content, she made herself very open for outside help. She definitely helped boost my confidence and knowledge in the class.

No.

This course is a good one! It touches on so many different events during a very big time span. I learned a lot of new things, and I learned of things that I had known previously but a lot more in-depth so it was almost like learning something new! We had to get four books, and I feel that two out of the four were actually very useful. While another one was somewhat useful. One of the books, I hardly ever looked at. But the readings that were assigned were very interesting and helped to shed a new light on what we were learning. Over all, I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot from it!

Talk more about what Noll taught in lecture, rather than the outside readings. In the long run, I feel that the lectures were more important than the readings.

She rocks!

Enthusiastic and down to earth. Does an excellent job of keepin it real!

No

More diverse than most American History courses which is very necessary! Seek authors of Central African or African American Descent for books pertaining to Black history.

Continue incorporating other minorities into class discussions and assignments! (in Fact, kick it up a level!) From experience, History becomes far more interesting and sought after when it pertains to students backgrounds! One of the Greatest TAs I must say. Real Talk!

Ms. Lyon is very helpful and seems to genuinely care about her students. She clearly articulates class expectations, particularly when it comes to assignments. She doesnt sugarcoat material and encourages honest discussion in class, which I think her students value. Enthusiasm for subject. No. I love it! N/A. N/A. Better feedback on essays, also better comments on the graded essay show me what I did wrong so in the future I can improve. If I had been given slightly better feedback feel that my paper could have been better. You have been my favorite TA ever! You in one word: Awesome (with a capital A). Going over possible ids at the beginning of each section was really helpful when I went back to study for the midterm/final. You are really good at returning emails pretty quickly, Ive had problems with other TAs so I appreciate it a lot. You are funny and crack me up during discussion and I like when you show funny YouTube videos before section because it pretty much makes my day. I know youll do great teaching your own class next semester, so good luck and thank you for being such a great TA!

Enthusiastic about subject matter overall genuine concern for student success.

I like how you can relate things weve learned to current issues today. Also your analogies rock and are actually extremely helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to do exam reviews- the midterm review was very helpful (havent had the final review yet but I know it will help too)

As you probably know After the Fact was pretty boring/hard to get through/hard to understand. Im sick of talking about women, families, and communities but at least that book was a little better. The Slavery by Another Name book was really hard to read/really repetitive, Im glad there was a documentary to help me understand it better.

She is not much older than most of us, so she made subject matters relatable to us. She also gave excellent comparisons.

No, she did an excellent job.

Qualities of Instructor which contributed to success of the course. She had a passion for history and really wanted her students to do well. She helped a ton on the midterm and papers editing them and making sure we understood what the papers should be about. You could tell she cared about our overall success in the class. She was very personable and fair with grading. Best T.A. I have ever had at UF. Helps students learn what they need to learn, does everything she can for students to get the grades they deserve. Makes you work hard to get the good grades, but it is a fun class too. You have a great and approachable personality. You are extremely well educated on the subject matter. You always make the class fun and exciting! I always look forward to your class even though its on Fridays.

I really enjoyed the course as well as some of the readings. Great Course! Some articles in the book can be a drag, and Slavery by Another Name is boring to read. We learned much more in class lecture, than by reading the books. But the course is great overall!

None

We ran out of time a lot, but only because we often talk about how the information pertains to today, which I consider more important anyways!

I did not enjoy reading Slavery by Another Name and I did not find buying the textbook worth it.

Keep doing what you are doing! Youre a great TA!

I can tell you have a lot of passion for history and that you are an extremely hard working individual. You care about your students and their success in life. Thank you for a great semester! Hopefully I will have you again for Nolls AMH2010 class next semester. She does a great job in explaining things and makes herself available to everyone.

She cared about helping individual students and wanted everyone to get the grade they deserved. She helped people do their best.

No.

There is a lot of reading. The Women, Families and Communities book is interesting, but I dont think every article is needed for this course.

None

Very approachable and willing to help in any way possible. Miss Lyon made it very easy to understand the material and she always made herself available to help her students if they needed it. By far one of the best and coolest TAs Ive ever had. No qualities that Miss Lyon had hindered my success in the course. I thought this course was really invigorating and the printed materials were interesting. I think that you should continue the reviewing of key terms if you continue to be a TA for Dr. Noll. Thanks for being such a cool TA.
