Key Verse Deut. 1: 3 On the first day of the eleventh month of the fortieth year, Moshe spoke to the people of Israel, reviewing everything ADONAI had ordered him to tell them.

Intro: This morning we start a new book/sepher in our Torah readings. The Book of Devarim also know as Deuteronomy and the Mishneh Torah. The title Devarim found in the Hebrew Bible or Masoretic text means the words and comes from the first significant or leading word in the book. Deuteronomy comes from the Septuagint or Greek version of the Bible meaning second law, Mishneh Torah means a repetition of the Law. Our key verse for this study is found in; Deut. 4: 9 Only take
heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons sons; 10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children. 11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness. 12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice. 13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone. 14 And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it. Our theme for this book

the word! The Torah of truth. We have a physical person in the Messiah, the Son of God who reveals to us who God is! He is God with skin! Yet we can only know Him through the words recorded by His disciples. Words which give us a description of His very nature and character. Devarim is not any different through Gods ten words (ten commandments we have a description of who God is, His nature and character! What is the greatest or first commandment, a Pharisee asked Yeshua? Shema Yisrael, the Lord our

God the Lord is One, and you shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might, and you shall love you neighbor as yourself. Upon these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Take this one step further; Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. :9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself . Galatians 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Now lets take this one more step! God is LOVE!

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. :8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. :9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. :10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

is Seeing and knowing God in His mitzvoth, His words! Words reveal who we are! Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Our words Reveal who we are! In John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God and the word was God. 14 The word dwelt among us full of grace and truth! Yeshua is

one another. 1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. :16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. :20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? :21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

There is none other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. c. Conclusion: These are the words Devarim spoken by Moses, they are a reminder of the Torah given on Mount Sinai. Many of this second generation Israelites were just children. Some were not yet born. Now Moses will remind them of all that God has told them to do and how to live as they go into the promised land. The prize of the high calling of God in Messiah is God Himself. The promised land is where God places His name and dwells with His people. These words were originally spoken by God but those words fell on deaf ears. They fell on ears

Rabbi Simla'i expounded: Six hundred and thirteen mitzvot were told to Moshe... David came and condensed them to eleven, as it is written: "A Psalm of David. Lord, who shall abide in Your tent? Who shall dwell in Your holy hill? He that walks uprightly, and acts justly, and speaks the truth in his heart. He that does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his fellow, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor. In whose eyes a vile person is despised; but he honors them that fear the Lord. He that swears to his own hurt, and changes not. He that does not put out his money on interest, nor takes a bribe against the innocent. He that does these things shall never be moved" (Tehillim 15:15)... Yeshayahu came and condensed them to six, as it is written: "He that walks righteously, and speaks uprightly; he that despises the gain of oppressions, that shakes his hands from holding of bribes, that stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil" (Yeshayahu 33:15)... Mikha came and condensed them to three, as it man, what is is written: "He has told you, O

good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God" (Mikha 6:8). 6. John, Shaul and Yeshua has now condensed the 613 commandments to a single command LOVE! that God is love, by love ourselves His mitzvoth! a. And John gives us the final thought LOVE! We can know the God of loving one another as we would and observing and contemplating

that did not love God. They fell on ears that forgot the ketubah or wedding contract. They forgot the vows that they gave to God; all that you say we will do! They would rather go back to Egypt and live in slavery, they would rather complain about not getting to eat the food that they were familiar with instead of being blessed by eating angels food. They wanted to live like the world. They wanted to live adulterous and idolatrous lives. They were not faithful to their husband. They did not take His words seriously. Had they of understood they would have heard through those words the love that came from Gods heart. They would have heard how much God loved them to give them the Torah! Today I come sad as I have read through 5 different commentaries from men who are scholars and experts in their fields. I have read another 4 commentaries or the Chumash from the Rabbis. I find not a people that look for God in Devarim but instead they are looking for knowledge and facts based on pagan cultures or mens opinions. I hear many people talking about a cruel blood thirsty God who loves to kill people. Instead I read about a God who was jealous over His wife. A God who watched His wife go a whoring after other gods. I read about a God whose heart was filled with love for His bride and wanted for her to be blessed and to live with Him forever. All of the commandments have been reduced to one word LOVE. And we read that God is LOVE. In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God, and the word became flesh and dwelt among us full of grace and truth. Yeshua said if youve seen me you have seen the Father. Yeshua is the goal to the Torah. Another word for goal is bulls eye. Sin is the missing of the mark or the bulls eye. Sin is the transgression of the law. Yeshua is the tree of life the living Torah. Yeshua is God. Yeshua is God manifested in the flesh. All we have in order for us to know Him is this book! We have no videos, photographs, not even drawings. We cannot go and ask Peter, James or John about Yeshua. All we have today are the words they have left as a testimony of who He was and what He was like. The Torah especially Devarim contains the mitzvoth the commandments of God. Through them we can know Him!

Pr 3:18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and blessed is every one that holds on to her. 6:23 For the mitzvah is a lamp, and the Torah is light, and reproofs of discipline are the way of life;
