Introduction csv2kml is designed to analyze your drivetest data. With this application you can convert your data to a KML-file. This file can be used with Google-earth to make a map, which displays your data geo referenced.

Installation The application is written for Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7. If you want install this program on a computer with restrictions, please run the installer as administrator. To start the installer, double click the csv2kml Setup icon.
(or right click and choose run as administrator)

The Setup screen appears, click next to continue.

You may change the folder where the software will be installed, and click next.

You may change the shortcut folder in your start menu, and click next.
(If you dont want a shortcut in your start menu, tick the box at the lower left.)

If you want a shortcut made on your desktop tick the box, and click next.

Check the settings and click Install to start the installation.

Setup will install the program on your computer and register the appropriate files.

After installing the next screen should appear, your installation was successful. Click finish to exit the installer.

Using the Application When the software is started the screen looks as follows:

This application will only export any CSV-files with a comma, semi column or tab as separator.

Opening a File To open a CSV-file click File in the menu and choose Open CSV, see example The open file window appears, choose a CSV-file (.csv).
(a .log file can also be opened, it must be comma separated)

Make your choice by double clicking the directory and file. At the top of the screen, you may change the drive. Dont forget to change the separator if you use a semi column or tab as separator. Click the open button to open the file. The window will close and the file and its path will be displayed at the top of the application screen. What to export The application reads the header line of your CSV-file, you can choose any detected header. The header represents the columns in your file. The Source Data of what to export can be chosen from the pull down box at the upper left. The Latitude and Longitude must also be selected. The format of the coordinates must be in decimal degrees (DD.ddddd)

How to export The chosen source can be exported in two different ways: Range Values or Individual Values. The chosen export is highlighted.

A legend can be exported as well, tick the Legend box to export the legend. The legend will also be exported as a BMP-picture. An export name can be entered, this will be used to recognize your data in Google Earth. - Range Values A color is given to the source-values between the specified values in the Range Value Columns.

Example: All values in the measurement that are greater or equal to 75 and smaller then 70 will be given the color yellow. (-70 > value >= -75) The colors and values can be changed to your wishes. To change the color, click a color in the color palette at the right side. Once the right color is selected, the box that you want to change can be clicked, the box will change into the chosen color. The Size is the size of the exported circle. In the lower field (default: RSSI [dBm]) a name can be given that will show in the legend. The legend will only be shown if the checkbox Legend is ticked.

- Individual Values A color is given to a specific value in the source-value.

Example: The values in the measurement that are equal to 2 will be given the color green. (Value = 2) The colors and values can be changed to your wishes. To change the color, click a color in the color palette at the right side. Once the right color is selected, the box that you want to change can be clicked, the box will change into the chosen color. The Size is the size of the exported circle. In the lower field (default: Basestation) a name can be given that will show in the legend. The legend will only be shown if the checkbox Legend is ticked. -Saving Value & Color Settings The Colors and the Range- and Individual Values can be saved as a template for future use. Simply click the button Save Values (or from the menu click Options and choose Save Values). The default.val contains the values that the application will use when it is started. Click the button Open Values (or from the menu click Options and choose Open Values) to recall any stored values.

- Start Export To start the export, click the button Export at the lower left (or from the menu click File and choose Export). The export file will have the same name as your original file but with a .kml file extension and will be saved in the same directory. If you want to export your file to another name or directory, click File in the menu and choose Export as, see example

A new name and/or directory can now be chosen. - Export Errors If a line in your file is corrupt or does not contain any data or coordinates, the line will NOT be exported to the KML-file. To see the lines which are NOT exported, click Options in the menu and choose View Export Errors.

Google Earth To open a KML-file in Google Earth you must have Google Earth installed on your computer. (See requirements at page 2.) Just double click the KML-file and Google Earth will open. Your drivetest data will be shown. Be aware that the following files must all be in the same directory as the KML-file: Example.kml Example_legend.bmp white_circle.png

If the white_circle.png is missing, the position data will not be shown as colored circles! If the *_legend.bmp is missing, the legend will not be shown in Google Earth! The legend is attached to the first valid position of your drivetest data. To replace it at the screen, just open the properties and drag it to a suitable place on your screen.
