• Preparation of EI designs suitable for pre-feasibility estimates.
• Lead an EI design team for the OneSteel Whyalla Reduced Marine Discharge project
including a 6.6kV/415V power system upgrade. Work included both greenfield and
brownfield design.
Achievements:
• Pre-feasibility study and budget estimate for the proposed OneSteel Iron Knob crushing
plant.
• Preparation of electrical designs, specifications and data sheets suitable for a +- 30%
estimate for OneSteel’s proposed Iron Knight crushing plant. Deliverables were
specifications, data sheets, Single Line Diagram, lighting layout, equipment layouts,
fault level calculations and cable calculations.
• Site visit to OneSteel Whyalla plant to gather “as built” information on the 33kV over
head line components including the protection relays, transformer data and load
information resulting in a report summarizing the “as built” data.
• Oversee preparation of EIC design for construction drawings (SLD, Schematics,
termination diagrams, interconnection diagrams, loop diagrams, panel layouts, switch
room layouts, plant equipment layouts including cable routes).
Responsibilities:
• Lead an EIC team of Owner specialists consisting of an Electrical Engineer, Instrument
Engineer and Control System Engineer, collectively acting as the Owner’s EIC
representatives on the Onesteel Project Magnet team.
• The team was responsible for the design, construction and commissioning reviews
against South Australian legislation/Regulations, Australian Standards, contract
documents and Owner’s standards.
• Represent the Owner’s interests at Factory Acceptance Testing of both MCCs and
PLC/SCADA Software.
• Scope development, specification preparation, tender reviews, design and construction
reviews and electrical project management for the Owner scoped items for Project
Magnet.
• Liaison with the Owner’s Production and Maintenance departments for the interfacing
of Project Magnet with the existing plant.
• Mentor a graduate engineer.
Responsibilities:
• Electrical and Automation design of projects in the Automotive, Animal feed and South
Australian water treatment industries.
Projects:
• Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (Painted Body Storage), United Water (Glenelg
WWTP Tertiary Filters, Bolivar High Salinity WWTP), SA Water (Clare Pumping
stations, Heathfield WWTP) and Lauke Feed Mill.
Achievements:
• Development and delivery of a presentation on the State Diagram method of PLC
ladder programming.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the Automation Design Department and the Electrical Switchboard Workshop.
• Detailed electrical design for Water Treatment Plants (both waste water and potable
water) for clients throughout Australia.
Projects:
Achievements:
• Implementation of QA practises into common usage through Work Instructions and
ITP/Test Sheets for both design and workshop phases of projects.
• Minimizing electrical design time and maximizing purchasing power, project quality by
developing electrical design standards.
Responsibilities:
• Scope development, estimating, specification preparation, tender reviews, design and
construction reviews and electrical project management.
• Software design for PLC Control Systems (both new and existing) within the Rolling
Mills, based on the State Diagram principal.
• Electrical Project management and co-ordination of contractor and maintenance
workforce on capital projects.
• Mentor a graduate engineer.
Achievements:
• Electrical Project management of the Pellet Plant Waste Gas Cleaning Plant. All stages
of the project were covered from scope preparation, estimation, tender reviews to client
hand-over. Technical areas covered ranged from 33kV/6.6kV power distribution to
PLC control systems. The equipment was a mixture of new plant and
interfacing/upgrading of existing plant.
• A team member in the successful implementation of the rewrite of the Stand 3 PLC
software in the State Diagram format. Implementation was during planned Rolling Mill
shutdowns to minimize production loss.
• Electrical Project management of the BOS Fume Collection System. All stages of the
project covered from scope preparation to client hand-over. Technical areas covered
ranged from 6.6kV power distribution to PLC control systems. The equipment was a
mixture of new plant and interfacing/upgrading of existing plant.
• The successful development and testing of PLC software for the conversion of the
Stand 2 Side Shifting Table from DC drives to hydraulic systems.
Responsibilities:
• Supervision of an Electrical Project team overseeing the implementation of the BOS
upgrade associated with the Continuous Caster project.
Achievements:
• Implementation of audit systems to review the contract Project Manager Company
technical outcomes against the clients standards and specifications.
• Prepare and implementation of design, installation and commissioning schedules and
budgets to meet the clients BOS production schedules.
Responsibilities:
• Supervisor of the Electrical Design Office.
Achievements:
• Maintain and develop Electrical Standards and records.
• Development of Electrical Engineers.
Responsibilities:
• Scope development, estimating, specification preparation, tender reviews, design and
construction reviews and electrical project management.
Achievements:
• Electrical Project management of the Iron Duke Ore mine. All stages of the project
were covered from scope preparation to client hand-over. Technical areas covered
ranged from power distribution to PLC control systems. The equipment was a mixture
of new plant and relocation of old plant.
