WHITE TO HARVEST
NEWS OF THE ISLES OF THE PACIFIC CHRISTIAN MISSION Carl and Grace Fish
JANUARY 1973
ful prayer partners and generous supporters this great island nation. Every gift, letter ciated by the Fish family and does not go uner of the faithful. During these first six months of our furlough time it has been good to meet so many of you ACROSS THE NATION and tell you in person how the Lord is blessing the work in Indonesia and using each of you to bring glory and honor to His Son in Indonesia. We've made many new friends, too, who
our wish for all our many wonderin the work of preaching Christ to and act of kindness is truly apprenoticed by Him who is the reward-
have expressed their commitment to this challenging work through prayers and giving and we praise God for them. Although the entire family has not been on every trip ACROSS THE NATION with Carl, they've shared in his ex periences upon his return. Besides attending and speaking at the North American Christian Convention, Carl was also on the program at the first session of the National Missionary Convention and one of the 12 missionaries in the North west Schools of Missions. His travels have taken him into Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Washington, California and Arizonia to date with Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri still scheduled
for these remaining five months.
The Charles Winegarners keep us informed of the continuing growth of the work on the field. Responsibility for 21 churches falls upon their shoulders and ours in regard to providing personal teaching, printed teaching materialsand audio-visual helps. Many of these churches have left denominational groups when they learned of New Testament Church teachings. These patiently await our return and eagerly desire definite teaching programs to learn more about such things as "freedom in Christ," "church government," "the Lord's Supper" and "guided Bible study." Pray that we can return soon with the goals reached we set out to realize during this furlough. More regular givers are needed to
underwrite our printing ministry. If 25 individuals or churches would give $5 per week for the next term we could set ^
up our print shop with the needed equipment to begin FULL production very soon after our arrival in Indonesia. DO make this a matter of daily prayer.
.
Word has been received that a great drQughftias struck Indonesia and the price of rice has tripled! The fields are brown when they should be lush green"at this time of year. Drinking water has been a major concern in some areas and electricity has been greatly curtailed in Bandung and other cities. This has brought additional hardships upon the Christians and your missionaries there. They need our prayers for rain.

One of the main attractions at our display booth at the North American Christian Convention was the 37 pieces ar ray of "ANGKLUNGS", Indonesian instruments made ENTIRELY of bamboo. These mellow-toned musical pieces are hand-made in Bandung, West Java where the Fish family lives and are called "the national instrument of West Java." Whenever foreign dignitaries visit Bandung they are treated to a two-hour concert where these "angklungs" and other bamboo instruments are played by young people. The photo above shows some of the youth at the Central Christian Church, St. Petersburg, Fla. playing "angklungs." These are the very ones brought here by the
Fish family for special use by Mrs. Betty Gray, Minister of Music at Central Church. Mrs. Gray trained these youth and their special debut was made for their Christmas program on December 10th. One of the large St. Petersburg
newspapers gave them good coverage on this occasion and plan to do a feature article on them when the Fish family comes to St. Petersburg for their presentation of the Indonesian mission work. Another concert with these unique instruments is planned for that meeting.
We proudly introduce to all the friends of the Isles of the Pacific Christian Mission, Bill and Lilah Santo, OUR NEW MAILING SECRETARIES. This couple, Christian friends we met in California several years ago, now live in Westerville, Ohio and are active in the Linden Church of Christ, Columbus, Ohio. They've been dear friends of the Indonesian work as well as the Fish family and they eagerly desired to do something to , x
help this mission cause. They will handle the addressing and r mailing of our newsletters which will be a large and vital job.
They are surely capable and consecrated to the work of Christ.
We welcome these dear friends as our co-laborers for Indonesian
souls. They will fill a very important part of our ministry and look forward to working together with them. They have three

preaching and teaching tour there. He also baptized his own mother and father into the Lord and challenged another man to become a full-time preacher of New Testament Christianity. Paulus is busily engaged in followup work with our Bible correspondence course as well as evangelizing and
tion to Java. Charles Winegarner also expresses the urgent need for our
return with the new printing equipment so that numerous pieces of Christian literature he has had translated can be printed and distributed.
Bastian Kastanja, the Indonesian evangelist granted a one-year's scholarship to Kenmore Christian College In Australia, had some difficulties getting government permission to go there, has now obtained his papers and started his studies in the new school term begun in March. He is one of the first of five men we were able to lead Into a New Testament position and is a capable preacher and evangelist. We have great hopes for his future work.

A NEW WORK is opening up in the area of Lampung, South Sumatra, and there is great potential for the cause of Christ among these people who have migrated from Central Java to find homes in this lesser populated region. Please continue to pray for this work.

who have answered the call to come to Indonesia and
assume leadership of our Bible training program. I am not at liberty to reveal their names until they announce their plans to the church where they presently minister, however, such an announcement will be made later this year. These experienced Christian workers will plan to arrive in Indonesia sometime the last of next year-. There have been several inquiries by Bible college faculty members as to the possibility of visiting our field during summer vacation months and such "working" visits
are welcomed.

MISSION SERVICES, Box 177, Kempton, Ind. 46049, has printed a NEW MISSIONARY PACKET which includes the work of the Fish family. Write for it today and present it to your Bible school class, missionary study group or
prayer group.
PRAYER NEEDED: Word has been received that Mrs. Roberta Norton (Bobbie), forwarding sect, for the Winegarner family, had surgery in April for a malignancy. She is out of the hospital and recuperating. She needs your prayers. Her
address is: 3144 Pontiac St., La Crescenta, Calif. 91214.
NEEDS OF THE FISH FAMILY . . . for their return to Indonesia the last of June: (1) $3500 for the purchase of the printing press, plus shipping charges. (2) $3600 for their housing costs this next term and this amount is needed by December 15th 1973. (3) Twenty-five (25) churches to give $5 per week to underwrite the needs of our printing
ministry. (4) More missionary recruits for work in the islands of Sumatra, Celebes, Bali and Boreno. We ask your fervent prayers for the supply of these URGENT NEEDS. The next issue of "FISH LINES" will be written from Indonesia, the Lord willing. Our furlough time has nearly ended and we are now making final plans to return as soon after June 30th as possible. The months have passed quickly and the change has been good for us, although there have been times we were quite exhausted from the speaking schedule, still it has been a fruitful and rich experience. Now we are ready and anxious to get back to the work In Indonesia for there is so much to do. We'll be flying from the west coast, but at this time we do not know what route we'll take to reach the field. Philip will accompany us, but Monica will remain in Cincinnati where she enters her third year of study at Cincinnati Bible Seminary in Sept. We are hoping her planned "working" visit to the field will become
a reality the summer of 1974. Please keep us all on your dally prayer list. Thank you again for your many generous gifts and for all the kindnesses shown to us during this furlough time. God bless and keep you In His love.

Approximately $1500 is still needed for the remaining equipment to complete the printing facilities in our printing ministry, namely, a vertical negative-making camera, stitcher and paper cutter. Also, ajipther $1000 is needed to pay for the shipping of the press and equipment to the field via ocean freight. These funds are URGENTLY needed within the next
three monthsl FIVE churches giving $200 over the next three month's time would fill this great need (THIS WOULD BE ONLY $16.67 per week for 12 weeks). Will your church, Bible school class, or Youth group be willing to take this worthy project? Send your gifts and mark them

and worked a few weeks in the Auto License Bureau there until she became ill and had to have
surgery. Philip's furlough year has brought a great change. He is now taller than Mom or Dad, wears a larger shoe size than Dad (about which he brags), and he cannot always control his
voice (at the changing stage). He has completed a full year's schooling, attended Christian Service Camp in Pa. where he was selected Best Camper of the Week, and is now getting a headstart on his University of Nebraska Correspondence Course for grade 10. One of his subjects
is photography which.could be a great help to us in years ahead as he learns that part of the printing ministry as well as how to run the press. Anyone interested in helping Philip with the cost of his high school correspondence course work? We had to pay $159.75 for his tuition,
books, and supplies just for this FIRST SEMESTER. The total for the school term will be in Grace has been well and
