children. The consequence of the authors point of view in this issue is really nonexistent being in the polio cases it saved countless live an in the HVP cases it could do the same. 7. The major thesis on the, NO, side of this argument is the authors believes it is too early to really know if the long term effects of the vaccination is positive. Also the author believes if made mandatory this would be a great financial burden on the government, private physicians, and the general public. 8. First piece of evidence the authors use is in short term clinical research. It shows to have no serious adverse effect, but since the trial there has been some adverse effects reported. The second would be history. History has shown that with life threatening diseases it is great for mandatory vaccinations to occur, being that public health is in danger. The HPV virus is believed to not be in this category. The third prong of evidence the author uses is that society would be outraged if the government were to make it mandatory for peoples children to be forced into having this expensive vaccination. While some parents believe that their children are in no need of any vaccination at all. These parents would feel violated and very angry. 9. First fact stated by these authors would be when they state the year in which the government launched the childhood immunization initiative. As of current all states mandate vaccination to be done before the first year of entry in school is another fact the authors state. The third fact would be more than half of states have reported in meeting healthy people initiatives goal of 95 percent vaccination coverage for childhood vaccinations. 10. The author for the, NO, argument states as an opinion at one point that it may be, foolhardy, to oppose government mandated HPV vaccinations. The authors then go onto speak of another opinion in which they write about how there could be more unrevealed effects of this vaccination. Which they have no idea of knowing if this is the case or not. 11. The authors are not just coming out and saying, NO, they are just stating the facts and their own opinions on the topic examples of this would be all three of the topics they write about in this article safety, history, and government. 12. A good cause and effect that were stated would be when the authors talk about how the measles and small pox had to have mandated vaccinations because of the public health concern. They also talk about the governments objective in preventing cervical cancer in women and the means they use to achieve it. Some consequences from the authors points of view would be that people might think that they do not want what is best for young women and some people might not agree with their writings. The liberal opt-out provision point of view is also bad. People know even, if they take coercion and
distrust issues away at the end of the day the government is going to do whatever they want to. 13. I believe the more evidence based authors were on the, NO, side. Because the just had more facts from the government to the long term safety facts. There are no real reasons to believe that any author is biased except a couple of opinions they put into the text. 14. Both sides gave a bunch of good facts and opinions from scientific people. Its hard to say which one I think is most correct. But Im going to have to say I think the,NO, side is more correct. It is just because I feel you should have the right to choose whether or not you think the risk of maybe giving your daughter some side effect in the future or the reward of knowing she will not get this disease. 15. It being mandated for boys, while boys are less likely to get it, I again believe its the parents choice. 16. The potential of a mandatory annual flu shot I think will also have its risks and rewards. I have had them and my children have also had them and the risk is when you get them you get sick from it but that also is supposed to make you immune to the flu. So again you could write pages and pages of facts and opinions on this topic but everything involving children should be the parents decision and everything dealing with an adult should be their own decision and not anybody elses.
Reflection statement
This assignment had a great impact on my understanding of the world. I had no idea of the age HPV virus and how it affected other parts of the world so much more than it does in the United States. It made me feel a lot more fortunate to live here rather than somewhere else in the world. It challenged my assumptions of the government. I also didnt know too much about small pox and how bad it was. I assumed that the government really didnt care to much about Americans but reading that it was a mandatory thing that you had to get a vaccination for small pox made me feel a little better about the government. They had everybodys best interest in mind and ended small pox forever.
This assignment illustrates my growth in this class by teaching me about yet another harmful thing out there that I need to look out for and pay attention too that could invade mine or somebody I loves body. The change would be pretty much the same as the first answer in it changed my mind set to keep aware of viruses and its important to teach your children about stuff like this, thats in this assignment. The progression in this assignment was big. I now can understand more scientific words then I ever have before. Not only from this assignment but from this whole class in general.
