Indonesia cruised past 10-man Singapore to win 2-0 in its second Group A qualification match at the SEA Games in Jakarta on Friday. The Singaporeans were left shocked when Patrich Wanggai sent the Merah Putih off to a flying start at the Bung Karno Stadium, scoring after only 45 seconds of play. The goal sealed a beautiful counter-attacking move from the left and is currently the quickest scored at this years SEA Games soccer competition. Minutes later, Singapore was reduced to ten men when Navin Neil Vanu was sent off by the referee Supresencia Steve of the Philipines for a foul on Indonesians Mahardirga Lasut. The Young Lions were left reeling in the 37th minute when Indonesian striker Titus Bonai added a second goal, dribbling past four Singaporean defenders to strike. The second half proved to be monotonous when compared to the first, with Indonesia missing many goal-scoring opportunities against a weakened Singapore side.
Indonesias head coach Rahmad Darmawan said that his teams confidence had decreased after going 2-0 up, but that they were able to maintain their discipline and positioning so that whenever they lost possession, Singapore were unable to pose a real threat. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is not likely to come to the Bung Karno Main Stadium to watch the final match between Indonesia and Malaysia on Monday evening, a Presidential spokesman said. Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said that the President was very proud of the achievements of the Indonesian athletes, who had become the overall medal champion. The President extended his highest appreciation to the athletes who won medals and made the country the overall medal champion. The President also extended appreciation, especially to the national football team who would take on Malaysia in the finals, Julian told reporters at the Presidential Palace on Monday.
Julian said that the President, however, would likely not be able to attend the final match between Indonesia and Malaysia at the Bung Karno Main Stadium. Julian did not explain the reasons for the Presidents absence. Despite his absence, his attention to the countrys football remains intact. The President has shown his appreciation of the football team by watching the previous semifinal match, Julian said, as quoted by Antara news wire. as the president, he should've come to GBK to give full support to the young garuda squad, which is going to give everything it's got to play against the toughest foe - malaysia for it's the very first time for the garuda squad to reach the grand finale after 20 years of being shorn of any achievements and to be among his people, who've literally queued for the tickets since as early as 4.30 this morning and straight to this evening and inundated GBK with red shirts. but as usual he refuses to be among his own people even though his youngest son is marrying a daughter of one of his cabinet ministers or the coordinating minister of economy and industry to be precise tomorrow for he IS the president for crying out loud; therefore, he should put the common interest above all else.
Indonesia lost to Malaysia in a penalty shootout on Monday in the Southeast Asian Games soccer final at Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan, South Jakarta. The teams were tied 1-1 until the extra time. Indonesia scored early in the fourth minute with a header from Gunawan Dwi Cahyo. However, Malaysia controlled the game after Omar Mohamad Asrarudin equalized in the 35th minute. In the penalty shootout, two Indonesian players failed to score, while only one Malaysian striker failed. Malaysia previously beat Indonesia 1-0 in the qualifying round. The Indonesian and Malaysian squads have faced off 13 times in the history of the Southeast Asian Games, ending in six victories for each country and a 0-0 tie during a qualifying match in the 1979 Games. Two of the nations SEA Games matches were final-round showdowns that were held when Indonesia hosted the Games: Malaysias 1-0 triumph in 1979 while playing Indonesia and Indonesias 1-0 victory in 1987.
Semarang-born local soccer legend Ribut Waidi scored the only goal in 1987s final match in injury time.

Indonesia took an early lead against Malaysia after only four minutes in the SEA Games soccer final on Monday. Center back Gunawan Dwi Cahyo headed home from a corner kick taken by Octovianus Maniani. with full steam ahead, the young-gun garuda through andik, patrich and tibo kept trying to try to scoere goals, which eventually materialized at the 4th minutes of the first half of the finale. it all started with a corner kick from okto, the no.13 player gunawan accurately managed to put a ball straight to the upper left corner of the malaysian goal with a header, which made the
malaysian coachs facial expression so tense straight away for he knew too well that his team had just to score back and there just aint other way.
All three were key hands who had scored crucial goals in Malaysias campaign Syahrul in the 1-0 win over Indonesia earlier and Izzaq who scored the winning goal in the 2-0 decision against Thailand. Yet, the Malaysians showed character to take on the Indonesians and silence the Senayan Roar with their gutsy display in a pulsating match. The home fans did their part cheering their team on and singing patriotic songs to raise their game. But it was Malaysia who were on the offensive and kept the fans on edge throughout. A defensive lapse saw Malaysia concede an early goal when Gunawan nodded in from a cornerkick beating goalkeeper Khairul in the fifth minute. Then, Malaysia had a good spell in the Indonesian half with playmakers K. Gurusamy and skipper Baddrol winning most of the possession in midfied. The Malaysians began to grow in confidence and could have got the equaliser if not for striker A. Thamil Arasus hasty shot in front of goal in the 15th minute. The Indonesians early fire fizzled out as Malaysia dominated the proceedings with their neat short passess and it was not long before they found the net through Mohd Asraruddin in the 34th minute. Baddrol put through Mohd Asraruddin to score from a diving header from close range. The second-half was all Malaysia and striker Ahmad Fakri could have secured the win if not for his missed sitters in front of goal in the 50th and 63rd minutes.
