At this writing, our travel plans are made, tickets bought (and paid for, PTL) from Santiago to Tulsa. We will leave here on Thursday evening March 29 on a flight to Pana ma, spend 1i days In Panama before continuing on to Miami. Mom and Dad Mc GiI I will be
in Miami to meet us, from which we will go to Ft. Myers, Florida to spend a week with

From Florida, we will arrive in Tulsa on April 9, and will be spending a few weeks In the Tulsa-Joplin area. Near the end of ApriI we wi11 go to Jollet, I 11inols for a three-day rally, from there to the Indianapolis area for several weeks, before returning to the Joplln-Tulsa area towards the end of May. There we will stay for the entire month of June, in churches, camps and Vacation Bible Schools, except for one week of VBS

NEPTUNO REPORT

The Neptuno Church has officially made a request to SERVIU, the government organfaztion in Chile that controls the government subsidized housing and land projects, for a piece of land near the church to be sold or given to the church. It is a long process with a lot of paper work, but It j_s a possibility, as in many areas of town, lots are zoned for non-Roman Catholic church properties. Pray that this will be approved, as It
is needed badly.

We have been spending a lot of time with the leaders of the church, Luis and Ines Molina lately, preparing them for our departure. They are both growing and maturing in their Christian life, and have a very good testimony in the conmunity. We are going to ask that a Chilean leader from a nearby church assist Luis with some of the preaching
load while we are gone.

Pending a church property, I am certain that the Neptuno church would grow quickly, in our absence. A group can only grow to a certain size when It meets in a living room filled with furniture. Upon our second term in Chile, we hope to maintain contact with Luis and Ines, but to devote our time to starting new churches. Pray for your younger brothers and sisters In Christ. They appreciate you, and love you, even though you ttave
never met.

FAMILY CAMP REPORT

During the month of February, for two weeks, we held Family Camp at our property In El Tabo, near the coast. The first week, about 115 people went from several smaller

churches In Santiago and from the church

During the second week, about

huel church In Santiago, and had a fantastic week.

At the Family Camps, the entire pro

gram was planned by Chilean Church Leaders, resulting In the fact that the month of Jan uary 1979 was a lot easier than was the previous year.

The only downfaH to the camp Is the water situation. We have a well, but the well Is about z mile downhill from the main part of the camp. We-pump the water uphill from the well to the camp kitchen, using a samiI pump and a Briggs and Straton lawn mower en gine. If the pump isn't mal-functioning, then the moter does. This year, as one of our co-workers was trying to start the engine, the cable caught his finger and broke It. To make matters worse, when everyone went to the beach for some sun, he accidentally kicked the wife of one of the preachers, arid, broke two of the toes on his right foot. Camp Is
a lot of fun, for those who do not suffer casualties.

While we were at camp, Carey got sick. Finally on Thursday morning, after she had cried for two solid hours (she usually is a 12 hour sleeper and does not cry at night),
we decided that we would take her to the nearest town to the emergency room at the hos-

pital. We left our cabin at 6:00 AM, and It was still dark. Carey was screaming, as we didn't want to wake everybody up. so we hopped Into the car, I started It, put It In re verse and backed Into a tree stump that was about 2 feet high, and did In the rear end of the Fiat. I took Rose and Carey home to Santiago that day, and th^ returned to camp for the final three days. She Is much better now, and the damage to the Fiat was mlnlal.

THE FISH FAMILY

David and Rosemary Fish left the U.S.A. in August of 1976 to join Latin American Team Ministries in Santiago, Chile. Aftereight months ofintensivelanguage trainingina specialized school for missionaries located in San Jose, Costa Rica, David and Rosemary continued on to Santiago, Chile to join other LATM missionaries. During their stay in Chile, they adapted well to the culture, learned to speak the Spanish language,
and have committed their efforts to serve God in Chile. ^

David is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fish, he accepted the Lord at an early age, and dedicated his life to serving him. Rosemary is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McGill, and grew up in the Lawrence Christian Church in Indianapolis. David and Rosemary met while both were studying at Ozark Bible College in Joplin, Missouri. They were married on June 21,1975. David is a 1976 graduate ofOzark Bible College.

Their Tirst child, Charissa Lynn (they call her Carey), was born in Santiago on October 24,1977. Because Carey was born in Chile, she has dual nationality, and therefore has two
passports of her very own.

The Fish Family returned to the United States on April 1,

1979 for a brief furlough. They plan to return to their home in Chile at the end of September 1979.

CHILEAN CONCERN

WHAT IS LATM?

The exciting and fruitful work in Chile has attracted the attention of rnaHy^ people. In the past nine years several families have come to give themselves and their abilitt^to the Lord, performing the work of evangelism, church planting, discipleship and leadership training in Chile. These co-workers .make up LATM. They have found that it is beneficial to
coordinate their ministries, and thus increase the effectiveness
of the Chilean work. The current team consists of twelve

^families. The majority of those families live and work in Santiago - capital city of Chile and home of four million people.
FINANCIAL NEEDS

The Fish Family has already raised the money needed to cover their salary, with a small additional amount for the normal working expenses of the team. However, with the high inflation rate in Chile, and the devaluation of the U.S. dollar, more monthly support is needed to defray the costs of the work, and to innaugurate much needed programs. In addition to the monthly expenses, money for the following one-time expenses is needed before returning to
Chile:

$1500 $1500 $1000

Travel to Chile Emergency Return Fund Shipping, Customs

All contributions should be sent to their forwarding agents:

A NOTE ABOUT YOUR CONTRIBUTION

Our mission, "Latin American Team Ministries", or "Chilean Concern" Is not In corporated as a non-profit mission organization, Therefore, when you send your
contribution, please make the check payable to First Christian Church, and marked for the LATM account. That will insure that your contribution to our mission work

will be a legal "tax-deductible contribution". This Is especially important to the many individuals that support us. A cancelled check to David Fish, Latin American Team Ministries, or Chilean Concern is not considered by the IRS to be evidence of a "tax-deductible contribution" to a non-profit organization.
NEWS FR0I1 CHi LE

Missionaries Cindy Shead and Rodger Prong have recovered from bouts with hepatitus, evidently caused by a problem with the water at camp. Another note is that our office building has been expanded from two to three stories, by means of rais ing the roof. That change will provide much needed office space. One final note, the Neptuno Church is doing well, growing quantitatively and qualitatively, and is still waiting news on a property site, Keep your brothers from Neptuno in prayer.
FURLOUGH NOTES

So far we have driven 6,000 miles, and have flown a few thousand more. During the month of June we have participated personally in 3 different Vacation Bible Schools, and In one week of camp. Several other churches have used our work as the mission project for VBS. During July and August, we have a full schedule, speaking at churches In Ol'Jahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota and Colorado. During the month of July, we will also travel to South Dakota to visit David's grandmother and two of his aunts. In July, we will attend the North Amefican Christian Convention in St. Louis, Missouri. We hope to see you all there.

It has been good to be here, although it has been financially straining at some times. We have found so many good deals, that on some Items, we are stocking up a 3-year supply. We have appreciated trips to Missionary Services, Inc. In Wheaton, Illinois, an organization that provides products and services to missionaries at reduced rates. But most of all, it has been good to see so many people that are concerned about what the church Is doing for God's glory ih Chile. We thank God
for you. We are indeed anxious to return to Chile. At this time, we have not scheduled

our return flight, but estimate that our departure date will be about September 21. We ask that you keep us in your prayers during the remain+ng part of our furlough
travels.

GOING HOME!!!

At last, we're going home! After nearly six months of furlough, we're returning to Chile. We have really missed our friends there, both among the missionaries and Chilean people in the churches. The letters that we have received from Chile have always been welcome, and have kept us
going.

Shortly after arriving in the U.S., someone asked us if we were happy to be "home." I understood the question's intent, and answered affirmatively, but down deep-inside I thought, "But we aren't at home!" Now that we are returning to Chile, it is good to know that we will be going
home.

On Tuesday, September 25, we will drive from Ft. Myers, Florida to Miami, to board Braniff Flight #979, non-stop, direct to Santiago. We take off at 1:00 A.M. on Wednesday the 26th, and arrive in Santiago at 9:15 A.M.
A NOTE ABOUT YOUR CONTRIBUTION

We changed forwarding agents effective the first of July, and all has gone very well. We have done our best to notify everyone of the change. Some contributions, however, are still being sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and therefore are not acknowledged as quickly as those that are sent directly to our new forwarding agents. Please forgive any
inconvenience. Send all contributions to:

Please make checks payable to First Christian Church,

A NEW NAME... A NEW PLACE OF PUBLICATION

This is the very first issue of our newsletter titled "Latin American Team Ministries," and is also the very first issue that is published from Joliet, Illinois. This newsletter will continue to be published bi-monthly. We certainly hope that you enjoy receiving it. If you do not wish to receive the paper, please write to us, so that we can delete your name from our mailing list. Thank you.

BUYING AND SHIPPING

We have been busy buying some items in large quantity, to take back to Chile with us. Would you believe a 3 year supply? In order to do this, we have been visiting garage sales, summer close-out sales, trying to find the best buys. We also visited Missionary Services, Inc. in Wheaton, Illinois several times, and were able to pick up some really good buys. Some items that we are taking back with us are: Natural Vitamins, Amway Laundry Detergent (we found 144 pounds of Amway SW-8 for 33 cents per pound), and shoes (both of us have such large feet that we cannot find shoes to fit us in Chile). On September 17, we will leave Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a U-Haul Trailer filled with our goods. We will meet Ralph and Cindy Shead, recent arrivals from Chile, in St. Louis Missouri, and spend the next day with them. On the 19th, Rose and Carey will fly to Ft. Myers to spend a few extra days with Grandpa and Grandma McGill. David will drive the trailer to Missionary Expediters of New Orleans, Louisiana, who will put our things on a boat headed for Chile. He will then drive to Ft. Myers, to spend a couple days with the McGilTs before returning to Chile.

PRESENT NEEDS

At this writing, we still have some financial need that should be met before we return to Chile. As you well know, the costs of travel have gone up considerably, and large portions of our monthly income have been spent in traveling from church to church to present a report of our
work in Chile.

We still need approximately $1000 for the one-time expense of boat freight and customs for the goods that we are taking back with us. Also, we need approximately $1500 to have on deposit for an emergency return flight fund. Please prayerfully consider these needs, and contemplate giving a special one-time offering to help meet these needs.

A WORD ABOUT CORRESPONDENCE

We realize that every church likes to receive personal letters regularly from their missionar
ies. And some are offended

and sometimes even drop sup

port of a missionary because he

does not write often enough.

Communication, however, is a

two-way street. It is awfully dif

ficult to answer a letter that we have never received. Please take time to write us while we are in Chile. As we have done in

is still meeting in his home, which is bulging at

the sides. We are searching all over for a more suitable meeting place, either a hall that we
can rent, or eventually a piece of property upon which we can build. And we trust that God will grant that to us, so that the church can grow still more. One of the most exciting things to see among the people is a hunger and thirst of the Word of God. Wtth the publication of Habia Hoy (equivalent to the English Good News Bible) now the Old Testament can be read with greater understanding. 1 have been preaching a series of sermons on Prayer in the Old Testament. Please keep us in your daily

REMODELING IN OUR HOME

We have been busy fixing up our home since our arrival on Sept. 26. We have enlarged
the bathroom to accomadate a bathtub; we

have painted and papered, etc. The house is now taking shape again, and is rapidly becoming our home. Thanks to a good Christian Friend, we have acquired a loan in the
United States to build a small addition to our

house, which will give us a lar~er kitchen and a utility room. We hope to start construction on the addition on November 5, so that it can be
finished by Christmas.

as to how to witness to people who had been

tliat has a cubic-inch displacement of a whopping 33.2 cubic inches. Bad news: about

Mormonism; on Friday evening, David Fish taught on "Jesus Only" Groups (United Pentecostal Church); Saturday morning Jeff Pliillips taught on Hare Krishna and Eastern

Religions; Saturday afternoon Jerry Keeling

and Manuel Campos taught on J ehovah's Wtnesses; Saturday evening J uan Carlos Campos gave a resume of Chilean

48 hours after receiving the car it was involved in a minor accident. The insurance company will pay the damage, but we will be without a car for some time while it is being fixed. We have used one tank of gas now, and it got us 36.5 mpg without leaving Santiago. The cost of the Subaru was US $4,590, a bargain, considering the fact that a new Ford Mustang II on exhibition in Santiago sells for a price of US
$26,500.

Pentecostalism; and on Sunday morning, Craig

Voolsey lectured on the Historical Basis for our
Christian Faith. The retreat was the first of a

series of teaching retreats for chiuch leaders, supplementing our regular leadership training
program. The supplemental retreats are designed to give information and instruction on issues that touch the leaders' present ministries.

furlough, one of the tilings tliat we wanted to do was to change forwarding agents, and we deliberated for some time before choosing new ones. The Lord has reallyoutdone Himself, for our relationship with Harley and Lola Mitchell has really been a blessing in our lives. To hear our two-year old daughter pray for Harley, Lola and! erry {one of their three sons) is proof that they have also been a blessing in her young life. It is our hope that you all will leam to love and appreciate the Mitchell Family as we do, and that they will be blessed in abundance as they serve our Lord, just as we are abundantly blessed by their service to us.

THE FISH FAMILY

David, Rosemary and Charissa Lynn

Our last issue

of the newsletter

mentioned the construction

that we are doing around our house. At that writing, the project ed starting date was November 5, so that the construction could be finished by Christmas. As happens so many times, things got de layed, and the work on the addition was not started until closer to the end of November. Christmas and New Years Day have come and gone, and our addition is still not finished. At this writing,

the plumbing installation should be finished today (my fingers are crossed), which would leave only the final plastering of the walls
and the longer. finishing of the floor, which should not take too much

In November, David went to a

semi-retired plastic surgeoa ti)V

treatment of an ingrown toe nail, that had plagued him since June. The doctor now specializes in permanent treatments of ingrown toe nails. The entire toe was anesthesized, the entire nail was re
moved, and the nail bed on both sides of toe nail was cauterized

with an electric needle. It was quite painful during the recovery period, but has healed very wello After the toe healed, David started playing basketball at the local YMCA to get some much needed excercise. At times the games there get kind of rough, and on December 14, elbows were flying, and he got his nose bent out

of shape, literallyI

A quick trip to the Emergency Room moved the

nose back to its rightful place, a nose cast was worn for a few days, some aspirins helped pain, and now everything is back to the way it ought to be.

InflationI It hits us all, right where we live! With unrest in the world, politically and economically, with the price of gold

going up practically everyday, what's a person to do? Pay higher prices for the same products, that's what! In Chile during the year of 1979, the inflation rate was 38.9% (compared to 30.3% in 1978 and 63.5% in 1977). Because the exchange rate (dollars/peso)
has changed, we have not suffered the entire amount. However our

true inflation rate, with the change in exchange rate figured, we lost 25% of our purchasing power in 1979o In accordance with our

policy,
times a

we receive a "cost of living" increase to our salary, two

year, in January and July. We have just taken one this

month, which means that we have had to take from our work funds to

pay our salary. Many of our givers have increased support over the years, but some have not. Please consider raising tl. 2 amounts that you send to us, or some day we may have to use all Oi! our re

ceipts to pay our salary, leaving nothing for working funds. One hundred dollars in Chile three years ago would buy almost twice as
much as it will today.

Rose has been teaching a class for women each Saturday at the Heptuno church. It has been a challenge for her to prepare the class each week in Spanish, but she is doing an excellent job, and the ladies are growing together, and practicing what they are learning. During the class each week, Carey gets to do special things with her Dad, like going to the park and playing on the swings, slides, etc. The work with the church at Neptuno has definitely had its ups and downs, since returning to Chile in September. We have still been looking for a suitable meeting place, and are praying for wisdom to do what is best. We thought just last week that we had found a place that we could buy, but it fell through at the last minute. We are still looking and praying. On December 29, at a Retreat Center not too far from Santiago, we had a full day of ac tivities: fellowship, Bible study, and planning for 1980. David has been working with a committee made up of both Northamerican missionaries and Chilean church leaders to draw up plans for a stable yet flexible training program for church leaders. We are looking at the existing patterns among Latin American training programs that use TEE (Theological Education by Extension), Mis sionary Phil Casey is the committee chairman, and Julio Carreno,

minister

of the church in Valparaiso, is the vice-chairman.

The

most pressing issue for the committee has been to plan our camp program for this year. We will be having just one week of leader ship camp this year, February 10-16. The following week will be a

Family Camp. At the leadership camp, Jerry Keeling will be teach ing on the "Christian Leader"; David Fish will be teaching a "Sur'vey of Church History"; Craig Woolsey will be teaching on "Chris tian Family", and Edio CSrcamo will be teaching on "Practical Min istry".

David has also inherited the responsibility of managing the print shop, during the furlough of Ed and Sara Holt. It is a big

responsibility, and a spot where there is a lot of pressure. As of right now, our print shop is semi-commercial, taking in enough commercial jobs to pay the salaries of the print shop workers, and still get our much needed printing done. We are striving to make the workers more efficient in the work, and thus have a minimal amount of time given to commercial jobs, and a maximum of time in
printing materials for use in our churches.
