In January we celebrated the second All South American MissionaryConvention. The first one was held in 1990 near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We sponsored the second one, and though we had the collaboration with a fine group of Chilean mission ary co-workers, it was a lot of work.

Cerriilos News
As planned, Ihave withdrawn myself from constant public ministry to the Cerriilos church, so that the Chilean leadership of the church would better develop its approach to ministry there. Icontinue to meet regularly with the elders of the church there, to provide them moral support In a "behind-the-scenes" manner. The church continues to go forward, and has had several baptisms in recent months. Iusually preach there as well about once per month.
One benefit that I have received has been a greater

Chile. Itwould be under the auspices of that corporation that we would begin a new Bible Institute, looking to March 1994

freedom to preach in different churches. Duringthe years that Iconcentrated my ministry effort with that congregation, Iwas rather tied down. 1have enjoyed a greater freedom, and have done supply preaching in many different churches this year.
Please continue to pray for the CerriilosChurch, and for her
leaders: Eneas Olivares, Oscar Olivares and Juan Padilla.

Greek Course
t have been holding twodifferent Greek courses, one at the
Cerriilos church, and one at a church across town. The courses started with about 30 students. Because of various factors, I

now have about 10 students left. We have completed the first cycle. We'll take several weeks "vacation," and begin again in September. Ihad attempted teaching Greek to some Chilean students years ago, but with littlesuccess. Thisexperience has been very rewarding, as Isee new concepts light up the eyes of my students. Though they have a long way to go, the group is
now reading selected portions of the Greek New Testament.

Rose's Prose
"Train up a child in the way he should go ..." We have taken that training a little farther since March and are home schooling the three children. We started home school with Carrie last August and now since March have Greg and Kimberly at home also.

Legal Stuff
Over the years we have had our share of disappointments with certain Chilean preachers that have dug themselves into a power structure. When other missionaries and I were in a position of legal authority, we tried to exhibit a leadership style which exemplifies Christ's approach. I am sorry to say that it was not "caught."

Greg graduated with his 6th grade class at Santiago Christian Academy on July 2nd as a home school child of the school. He played his electric guitar for his class to sing at the

program. Healso participated inApril inthe school's Olympic's Day activities and received a medal for "Best Boy Athlete".

The majorityofthe churches inSantiago havesaid, "Enough

is enough I" We have begun to help them try to regain a more

representative approach to managing the affairs of the affili ated churches. That has entailed many different meetings, late hours, and not a small amount of stress. We hope to force a meeting inwhich an election can be held to change the officers of the corporation which holds the church and mission proper ties. Should that not be possible, there will be a meeting in November in which it should happen.
Meanwhile, I have been working on the charter of a new corporation, which will be what the original corporation was

We have moved twice since January which has kept me quite busy. The Lord has guided each step though and our family holds firmtothe promise of Romans8:28. Carrie has been very happy in the Maipu church. She has been involved in a youth choir of about forty young people. Michael Mahoney led the choir with a special Christmas pro gram which they performed in many places. Also they have a musical called "Something Higher" which they did even in Ecuador. She did a sixteen week course with Operation Mobilization and graduated May 8th with one of the highest grades among the youth. She was gone for three weeks on a mission trip to Ecuador with forty people from Maipu and twenty-two young people from the U.S. with Christ in Youth. for a year. She has Kimberly in Thurston-lgnatlus Wedding, enjoyed the churches here in Maipu and will be able to travel to be with us a lot on the weekends. The family where she will be living is not Christian but our hope is to be able to reach out to them. Thankyouforyour prayers this year for our family. The Lord is faithful and we thank you for your faithfulness to our family also. In May our family enjoyed a retreat based on the book The Blessing. It has been a joy to bless our children each evening and to have Kimberly wanting to bless us in return every evening. Her blessing is always the same but Iwould like
to close with it now.

Kimberly is still our baby though she is beginning 3rd grade. She misses her friends at school but her Spanish is improving since she spends more time with Chileans in Maipu. She was asked to be a flower girl for the daughter of the ambassador of Malaysia. Dennis (the ambassador) isa Christian

A Note From Carrie

Firstof all, I would like to express my thanks to all of you who have supported me with your prayers this past year. I believe that your prayers have had a lot to do with the spiritual growth that Ihave experienced since last September. The Lord has really been working in my life and I have felt His presence allaround me. He's been part ofthe decisions I'vehad to make. He's not left me during the trials I've had to face. And He's certainly had a lot to do with the rich blessings I've received
from heaven. I would like to take time to share one of these

needy children. The first day in Samborondon Ibelieve each one of us were terror-stricken. That day the battle was won on our knees in prayer, as we asked the Lordfor his help. We showed movies every night, put on a VBS for kids, went out in the day with puppets and mimes, and offered a 3-day course of orientation to every new Christian. I was able to go this past month on a Mission Trip to

Thisexperience opened the eyes of manywho went on the trip. It seemed as though so many of us had been blinded to the reality of the world around us. Samborondon was com pared by many of us to the Old Testament Sodom and
