2. Get all of your documents together Two Complete Essays - Write your essays in word and save them to your computer. Essay 1: Texas has many challenges facing its future related to issues like energy/environment, health care and education. Which of these do you think is the most important issue facing Texas? Identify a problem related to the issue, and propose a solution to address the problem. (minimum 150 words, double spaced) Essay 2: Describe the most challenging obstacle you have had to overcome; discuss its impact, and tell what you have learned from the experience. (minimum 150 words, double spaced) Electronic copy of your unofficial transcript with GPA and class rank if available Teacher recommendation letter with signature

4. Step 1: Fill out application The application is divided into 5 sections: Personal Information - Please provide current contact information. If accepted to the Academy, your email address will be used on business cards. Please ensure it is appropriate. Examples include: bob_smith@gmail.com or bsmith@gmail.com. Education Information - Have your GPA and class rank for this section. If your school does not rank or provide GPAs, check the corresponding box. Extracurricular and Employment Information - List any participation in extracurricular activities, awards, jobs and/or internships, if applicable. Essay Questions - Upload essays to the application. Biographical Information - This information is for grant purposes and has no bearing on your application. 6. Step 2: Upload transcript and teacher recommendation All transcripts and teachers recommendation letters must be postmarked, faxed or emailed by January 31. You are highly encouraged to upload your transcript and a signed teachers recommendation letter if an electronic copy is available. If not, you may mail these items to: Subiendo Academy, 2110 Speedway, B6000, Austin, Texas 78712, fax them to 512-366-7267, or email them to Subiendo@austin.utexas.edu. Please write your UTEID on any sent items to be matched with your application. You can log onto the application to check its status at any time. This is especially important if you are mailing your transcripts and letters of recommendation. If you mail or email transcript and teachers recommendation letters, please allow 7-10 days for your online account to be updated.
