FROM THE FAMILY . . .,

_ FebrUat y 1994

Brrrr!!! How quickly we had forgotten how cold and wintry Virginia weather can be. After living for so long in a tropical eiimate the frigid temperatures really feel extra cold to us. We are, however, thankful that we were able to enjoy a "White Christmas" with our family. And, after having such a busy summer
and fall speaking schedule, i t ' s good to slow down our pace some. As we write this letter, our street is covered with ice. We haven't been out much due to the inclement weather but we have uti.l.i?:ed the time to do a lot of reading. In November Mike

oompJeted reading the New Testament in Thai and has started over aj^ain in a 1994 Bible reading program. This will help keep the language fresh while on furlough. Marcie gave us a prayer calendar to remind us of the prayer needs of people around the world. There are so many people groups who still need to hear

the
their

Gospel
own

and many language groups still lacking

Bible

in

languagel

Both Marcie and Ben are enjoying a few days off from school due to the bad weather. But they both have been busy with lots of school projects and homework.

FROM

Institute is proceeding well. Teams of instructors and students have been scheduled to go out during the hot weather break of April and May to promote the school and recruit new students. Another exciting bit of news is that the staff at C.B.I, is

working on the possibility of securing proper visas for international students to study at the school, particularly those
from neighboring countries.

The Clotfelters will be returning to the States briefly for

the summer and covet your prayers.
The work in Cambodia continues to bear fruit. One of our

Asian evangelists reports that many souls have been baptized and
that a short-term leadership seminar was conducted in March.

Continue to pray as the situation there is still very dangerous

especially as the people travel.

We are awaiting confirmation from some other churches where we are helping to raise funds for the

JULY -

AUGUST 1994

FROM THE FIELD .

The new school year at Chiangmai Bible Institute began in June with approximately 17 new students, nearly twice as many as we would normally enroll! With the new dorm facility open, space is no longer an obstacle. A photo of the new dorm was printed in
the l a s t issue of the "Thai Lifeline. " Letters from a number of our co-workers assure us of their

prayers for us as they await our safe return. We look forward to the ministry that awaits us there with the team in Thailand. Reports from two of our workers say that Cambodia is s t i l l unstable and unsafe for travel in certain areas. Please pray
for the Christians there. . .

FROM THE FAMILY .

Our visas have arrived from the Thai embassy and our air tickets have been purchased. How grateful we are for the time we have shared with many of you during this past year! You have truly been vital in refreshing our spirits in Christ! We have reported to all of our supporting churches and remaining speaking dates for the summer are at: Dunlap Christian Church (Covington, Va.), Salem Church of Christ (Salem, Va.), and Edgewood Christian Church (Roanoke, Va.). Our "To Do" list has really shortened over the last several

weeks. Our house has been leased and Marcie will be continuing her education here in the Roanoke valley. She will be staying with some very dear friends of ours. Perry and Sylvia Bailey of Salem. From the end of August on her new address will be: 164 Bogey Lane, Salem, Va. 24153. Phone: (703)387-3428 We've done our shopping for items we'll take back overseas and our books will be shipped via the post office. SPECIAL THAMES to Mickey Derrow's week of camp for sending our books through their
offering. Also we want to thank both the Salem Church of Christ

and First Christian Church (Russell, Ky.) for their V.B.S. offerings which together totaled more than $1800.00! These funds have been used to purchase air tickets. Also, we are grateful to individuals and groups who have shared gifts of money with us that have been so helpful in purchasing needed items for
Thailand.

But our list of things to do would not be complete i f we did not thank each of you who pray for us and supply our needs. We praise God for your partnership in the Gospel in S.E. Asia!
Sincerely In His Love,

FROM THE FIELD...

We thank God for our safe arrival back in Thailand! After spending a couple of days in Bangkok for rest, we travelled on by air to Chiangmai. We were met by a number of smiling co-workers. It was good to see our friends once again.
Mike had the opportunity to witness to a young Thai girl and share the plan of sal vation with her. On our first Sunday here we witnessed her baptism into Christ!
Five additional students from Cambodia have arrived to study beginning second term at C.B.I. We are currently trying to secure student visas for them. Pray with
us about his matter.

Mike will teach one class this term on "Dlsclpleshlp." Our current student enrollment is now at thirty-one students.

FROM THE FAMILY...

We are currently staying with the Clotfelters (Debbie's sister) until a house Is av^iilable. One will be available hopefully by the end of October. But we will have to furnish it ENTIRELY except for the living room furniture. But the rent will be less than

we anticipated. We will also have to pay a $250 deposit for a phone. Please pray that
we may soon be able to move in, purchase what we need and get settled in.

We were able to buy a motorcycle and truck which will be suitable for village travel. We thank God for you who support us and provide adequate funds for us to be here and to purchase necessary items for our home and work. Ben Is attending the international school and enjoys it very much. It was good to talk with Marcle and Mike's mother by phone recently. We covet your prayers while we are apart from our families. Until further notice, we can be reached by phone at the
Clotfelters at 011-66-53-251-404.

Again, we appreciate your love, prayers, and support!

In Christ,

of year especially here in Thailand where we have received a number of invitations to

celebrate the birth of the Christ Child wrth God's people in the villages. Of course

Christmas is a special time for families to betogether. And although we cannot bewith all
of our families members in the States we are looking forward to our daughter, Marcie's visit

over the holidays! She will be arriving in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, December 17th.
All of here are doing great! Ben has settled well into school and is staying busy.

The big excitement right now is that the Flinchums will be moving Into their new home right after Thanksgiving. Their new phone/fax number at home from November 26th and on will
be 011-66-53-233-372 (direct dial).
FROM THE FIELD . . .

teaching at the international school where Ben attends. Next term shewill teach "Christian

temi and leading our student retreat.

Please keep the mission inyour prayers that funds will be available to expand our

and in villages).
