ABSTRACT

The researchers aimed to determine the relationship between cardiovascular alterations to the lifestyle of the teenagers in Barangay Amontay Nasipit, Agusan Del Norte. The study was conducted from the Second Semester of the Collegiate Year 2012-1013. In connection to this, the study endeavours to find out if the susceptibility to cardiovascular alteration is related to the lifestyle patterns. The researchers have chosen a particular area where the teenagers regularly drink, eat high fat and salty food, smoke and get stressed. The Lifestyle patterns were alcoholism, diet, smoking and stress. This study made use of descriptive method of research design to describe the lifestyle patterns of the respondents and its relationship to the occurrence of cardiovascular alterations. To gain insights on the lifestyles of the teenagers of the area, the researchers made questionnaires which were before it was given to 36 respondents. The questionnaires were in the form of a checklist where the respondents were asked to put a check mark in the space provided to correspond to the answers. The tools were personally given out by the researchers as the rechecking of blood pressure was conducted to ensure there is a minimal amount of coincidental results. The researchers found out that the teenagers of Amontay Nasipit, Agusan Del Norte experience cardiovascular alterations due to their lifestyle patterns such as the diet they have, the frequency of smoking, intake of alcohol and stressors around them based on the results of the study. The researchers have used chi square to calculate the results. The research shows that majority of the respondents had the lifestyles that where favourable to have the alterations of the cardiovascular status. And these patterns in fact were found present in the respondents. The researchers have made the conclusion to reject the null hypothesis which stated there is no significant relationship between lifestyle and the cardiovascular alterations of the teenagers of Barangay Amontay Nasipit, Agusan del Norte. Based on the alternative hypothesis, the researchers recommended that the teenagers improve their cardiovascular status by changing their lifestyle patterns such as lessening smoking, alcohol consumption, high cholesterol foods, and avoid stressors; the family members assist the teenagers make the change and the barangay officials formulate programs that will help the goal to change lifestyle and reduce the incidence of cardiovascular alterations.
